Don't blame you...I had to look to make sure there was neither a nonstop flight nor, shockingly, even a direct Greyhound bus line between the two (literally requires changes of bus in both Memphis and Baton Rouge, amazingly)!
-
Would not have thought that the only ways to get between Little Rock and New Orleans would be a connecting flight or a rental car...

You mean nobody's ever given birth to a baby over 100 pounds?

Pitt Decimates Poor, Sweet Illinois (30-6)

Ironic that Byrd was originally a Maryland commit (when Kerry McCoy was still coaching there). -
Makes two of us.

The Arena is usually great, this is actually the first time I've seen an issue with the current version of it. (and it's updating, just very slowly) This thread isn't a reference to CKLV, at all. It's a reference to the Penn State/Rider dual.
-
The Penn State/Rider dual wasn't on a college campus. It was from a disused minor league hockey arena in downtown Trenton several miles from Rider's Lawrenceville campus that presently has no regular tenants.

Cliff Keen Las Vegas Wrestling Invitational
SetonHallPirate replied to Idaho's topic in College Wrestling
Yeah, but given that he got hurt, I'm not sure you can really call that an "upset"... -
In high school, I think you could blunt that by going to the current college rules (not the arbitration-style rules I've suggested). I hate matching up as much as the next guy (esteemed Senator from Kansas notwithstanding), but I feel like being able to choose the start weight in HS (with no "strikes", so to speak) would be a fair and equitable counterweight to not being able to choose odd/even matches to send second.

Minor change: The Bloodround (Consolation 2nd Round of Eight) is actually being wrestled Friday night, and wrestling is starting at 1 PM Eastern on Saturday. -
Contrived drama? It happens behind closed doors anyway, at weigh-ins! And it's not unheard of...when you are choosing an independent arbitrator for an arbitration hearing (for example), the two sides are given a list of eligible and willing names, and they alternate striking names until one guy is left...
-
Fake news. It was either start at a weight that the two coaches would agree to (there was specific mention of "showcasing" a weight, in fact, in the rules) or random draw. The myth about it being either 125 or draw was just that...

Knew he was going to be "the bad draw", but also knew I would be flamed for seeding an unranked guy with as many wins over D1 wrestlers while enrolled at Cornell as me. -
Well, new since the 2019 off-season, when they got rid of the draw (which was generally done with tongue depressors, for those wondering, although I know Michigan changed to a ten-sided die in its last year).
-
I like it, but I do think it needs to be improved...I'd like to see a "scratch" system, where coaches alternate striking weights they DON'T want to start at, and there's a coin flip between the last two. Besides, having a coin flip televised an hour before the dual starts is an absolute non-starter for the television networks, unless they tape-delay the coin flip only and show it at the top of the broadcast. The current college system would be better used in high school, IMO, where there already is a ton of weight behind the coin flip, and being able to choose the start weight would counterbalance that, but in college, almost nobody "matches up" due to the current qualifying system (especially in D-1).
