People can hate the rule all they want (I do) but it was applied correctly in this instance.

Brave is a chromium-based browser. It’s allegedly for some better protection for privacy. I use it on my phone and my Macs.

I can’t get arena to load on brave on my iPhone. I have to use Safari.

Well said.

There's also the distinction of pxp and color commentary. Ironside is the color commentator, where he ads his experience and the technical know-how to explain to the viewer/listener. His broadcast partner, Stephen Grace sets it all up. Gibbons calls this "down and distance" - so when Jim and I have worked events, I'll set the table with the basics of what's happening and Gibbons jumps in with what's happening with the wrestling mind. When you're on a one-person show, like Byers is 95% of the time, you're going to lose the technical aspects, but probably get a more data-driven type of commentary. Wrestling's vernacular is also very, very regional. If I call a move one thing from how I learned it in Virginia, it doesn't always translate to the same meaning here in the Midwest. I called a heavyweight's shoulder roll a "jelly roll" on a stream once with me and @Viratas when we were with TOM. He was like "Jelly Roll? Stop thinking about food." As far as finding people to do this - much like the topic we had with why teams don't do their own content. Quality control, although BTN's history with it's Student U seems to throw that theory out the window at times. There might be people at these schools with the ability, but usually there's one person for the school hired to staff these events - if those people don't know that there is someone who exists on campus or in the community - they don't know what they don't know. I know we all have our preferences with how we like to hear a match called and yes, it gets VERY annoying to hear people who butcher the calls. People do business with folks they know, like and trust - you don't always have someone who fits those criteria around the people who make decisions.

I was thinking what does Jenna Burkert have to do with any of this ... -
Byers is a home-town announcer on radio. He's not a neutral television broadcaster. Penn State puts his feed into their video and that's the easiest thing for them to do. Trying to classify him as something he's not isn't a fair view of what he is. He calls a good event and if you're listening, you know everything that's going on. If you're listening as a Penn State fan, you're really going to know what's going on. Don't go into a match he's calling expecting him to do anything other than what he's paid to do. "That guy sucks at the guitar" "Well, that's because he's playing the cello"

Cliff Keen Las Vegas Wrestling Invitational
Jason Bryant replied to Idaho's topic in College Wrestling
It’s pretty sterile. 10 mats, bleachers don’t get too high so sight lines can be impacted. Too bad the Orleans Arena isn’t an option. -
This sounds like the Tezos commercial I saw on FloHockey the other day.

Who is the single greatest wrestler from your school?
Jason Bryant replied to Jimmy Cinnabon's topic in College Wrestling
Buddy Lee, 2x AA, Olympian Jody Staylor, NCAA Finalist Ryan Williams, NCAA Finalist Chris Mecate, 2x AA Several "College Division" champions back when the school was relatively formidable in that era before moving to Division I in 1976. -
15 years ago, I’d take gold. Not anymore.

I’ll never speak in the third person to talk about myself and another account. I have no problem with free speech. Never have. Thinking some people are toxic presences and not wanting them to continue to pollute a great community is an opinion I hold. People making this community their own personal litter box might be free speech, but those actions aren’t free of consequences … -
How long were they going to let Kerk hold on to that ankle?

It was a medical. Prior to this year, you wrestled attached, the traditional redshirt was done. He was attached. If you get a medical, your results, as I have always understood it, count attached. Pretty sure Burroughs record at Nebraska includes his medical RS where he got hurt. They even cite his loss to Steve Brown that year snapping his win streak. The sport lacks uniformity in record keeping too, something I’ve been desperately trying to rectify. It’s a very slow process though.

Just asking. Wasn’t inferring anything negative or snarky. Just saw the link each time sans any rationale and wondered why. -

Any particular reason this reply is on every one of the Pirate's Week in Previews? -
One of the pains in the sport - he wrestled attached. I wish I could find the actual "rule" (if there is one) about what matches count and don't, because we are so bass ackwards in how we treat the results sometimes. He lost three matches in Vegas, so he's got those losses on his record, I don't care what tOSU says about it. They aren't the arbiter of official results.

Free the Lee - Unban the Dan edition
Jason Bryant replied to Wrestleknownothing's topic in College Wrestling
Contacting me via my personal FB profile (and not one of the mediums I have readily available on the web for contact - e-mail, Twitter, IG or the Mat Talk FB page) and then inquiring about being banned on the board while I'm actively working the World Championships is enough for me to never want to interact with him again. I make the mistake of trying to educate when I see a confused question on the board. But then the egg is on my face because I didn't realize it was another alias and when I present facts, my factual evidence is questioned with "if true" - sorry, not sorry he's not here. -
Why don't teams post their own "content"?
Jason Bryant replied to Max86's topic in College Wrestling
The ESPN+ streams are pretty much all in-house productions and sent to ESPN+ servers. They have minimum baselines on all sorts of things. I actually had to send them some clips when the NAIA wanted to use me for their finals stream before I started doing the PA. The in-house graphics crew mostly gets used to football and basketball, but you see wrestling have a few anomalies, such as the nuances we have with riding time, etc. I've seen varying degrees of production from hockey streams this year. It's not the easiest interface to search (like on my Roku TV), but it has that familiarity to it. You also have to get the schools to WANT to do non-revenue sports. You'll see them either get bundled in with the MMR deals or you'll see them just tossed to the site because they're not worth their time - like indoor winter sports venues NOT ticketing or counting attendance (that's another soap box). -

... and a fair amount of money. No way all that should be done for free (the staff, production, talent) -
... and I'm still disappointed to wake up and see no presser on it from ASU. I'm real curious the attendance (which I'll get when I start pilfering around the web for it).

Brown-McGee was one I felt too many people were just checking in McGee's favor. His style tends to clog up McGee, in fact, the two met when they were at other schools (Brown at SDSU, McGee at that place in Norfolk) and Brown beat him. So I wasn't incredibly surprised this one was that close.
