I won't be calculating bonus wins that way in my Preview Guide this year. If you're 50-50 on the season and you have 50 pins, your bonus rate is 50%, not 100%.

Maybe the guys at WS can explain their calculation? To my knowledge, it only counts bouts against D1 competition (excluding teammates), who are eligible and rostered, at the weight class. So if any single matches are counted incorrectly (either way) it would create a discrepancy.

It isn’t DT’s idea, it’s been recycled for a while. I don’t remember when I first heard it, but I recall writing about that concept no less than 15 years ago.

This is one of those things where you have to have an idea of a group of wrestlers first rather than data just showing you something. I can pull up the hometowns of every single placewinner in college wrestling (save the NCWA) history, so that can probably get closer. I don't (yet) have a database of state champions and placers to cross reference.

User experience has gone down the shitter. I use(d) Blue because I don’t want to fat-finger a stat because, you know, phones/autocorrect/etc. and that won’t even work. Locked into a stuck profile because I changed my image - which used to take seconds. They’ve gone and effed it all up.

Only 107 duals have drawn 10,000 fans or more ever … list is on my almanac site. So WKN can pull the data if he so wishes.

We also need to understand our ceiling - since the 1940s, we’ve had (at last count) 105 duals ever draw five figures in attendance and the vast majority of those in Iowa City, Ames or University Park (State College doesn’t get the dateline anymore for some reason). The 2000+ at the ballpark is a decent crowd for college wrestling duals - but Oklahoma State’s largest crowd this year was just north of 4100.

Just something to be aware of. There was a poster who would go on TheMat, BWI, HR and the wrestling boards who would try to slide into these ticket threads and scam the hell out of people. Ol' Bob is just reminding folks, since it's that time of year.

Old Dominion had 8 wrestlers of color in their starting lineup when the AD dropped the sport. One of which is now at ASU. Some people can get uptight talking about diversity and always "making race a topic," but when college presidents want to beat the drum about first generation college students and their acceptance of all types, then they cut the most racially diverse team on a campus, you can best bet they don't want to hear about that. ODU's president has yet to reply to me about his predecessor allowing that to happen. Wrestling is for everyone. All shapes, all sizes, all colors. We really do embrace that in a lot of ways. There's still some stereotypes and tropes that exist in the sport that get repeated too often, mainly out of laziness. There are still groups looking to do things no one who looks like them have ever done, or most recently, like Tamyra Mensah-Stock, became the first to do. Our differences make us unique. Our differences also bond us. No matter how good or bad we were, we are wrestlers, right?

Speaking of Atari … these were delivered from back home last week. Still gotta spend the time to get the consoles working/plugged in to see if they work.

I flew into Memphis on Friday, then back out Sunday morning. I drove back from Little Rock on Saturday night and stayed in a hotel about 5 miles from the airport. I drove to Little Rock in between. I didn’t see/hear much of anything in my time there, other than what I’d just see pop up on the local news when I returned on Saturday night. I was supposed to have dinner downtown on Friday, but only found out about what was happening when I called Rendezvous (bbq joint) to see if they took reservations. Closed early and I asked “should I look up what’s causing your closure?” Their response about why they were closing early seemed cautious. I got through town without any street blockages or witnessing anything. I did read they blocked one of the main interstates out of the city into Arkansas for a bit long after I’d gotten out of town. Seems like there was limited issues of unrest. Weather was poor, so that may have kept people in. Just a relatively brief first person account of what I did and didn’t experience in Memphis this weekend.

We have so many nuanced rules from one level to the next. It’s one of those IYKYK things and that isn’t always a good thing.

Well, it would make so much more sense if WVU was in the ACC for wrestling.
