  1. Yes, I'm very against gambling as a moral matter.
  2. We already have that...it's called the NCAA finals.
  3. It's hard to follow your train of thought when you keep moving the goalposts.
  4. So you now contend they lacked the requisite authority to impose punishments? That's very different from complaining that the punishments were overly harsh. And the NCAA reducing the severity of any imposed punishments =/= an admission that they lacked the authority to punish in the first place.
  5. Ok, so your beef is that the NCAA has the ability to punish athletes for conduct that is not criminal? If so, you're basically railing against the entire NCAA system as they've always had a regime that is considerably more restrictive than what is allowed by criminal law.
  6. Is Robb coming back? I thought he almost died from his infection.
  7. Yes, do we really need to go into how an athlete placing bets on his own team (or another team at his school) where he could (a) have insider information or (b) influence on the outcome of the game could potentially cause (1) monetary losses to other bettors, (2) affect the outcome of the game or (3) affect the integrity of the athletics program as whole?
  8. Actually, I am hearing now that all the Iowa wrestlers will be back and not face any suspension. So it looks like my "nothingburger" prediction may ultimately be 100% correct. I wonder if any of the transferees will want another free transfer home since they now have to battle for a spot they thought they had locked up...
  9. I mean, I obviously think there should be a meaningful punishment given that these student athletes attended annual meetings where gambling and its consequences were discussed ad nauseum. But others don't want to see their favorite team actually punished for breaking the rules.
  10. Suspended from a number of (meaningless) dual meets...full participation at B10s and NCAAs.
  11. Yes, the gambling athletes should just get a slap on the wrist (or a pat on the butt) and be given a stern warning to attend the annual compliance meetings where they go over the prohibitions against gambling.
  12. It appears so. They want to limit "abuse" of the portal.
  13. The NCAA Division I Council approved changes to the transfer portal windows that will shrink the number of days for student-athletes to enter their name in the portal. The rule change will impact all sports and give players 45 total days throughout the year to enter their names into the transfer portal. Each sport will have 45 total days, but it will be divided differently by sport. For example, before this rule change, the window for football would open the day after the College Football Playoff teams are announced, which was Dec. 4 in 2022, and would stay open for 45 days.
  14. Bad news for wrestling programs who heavily rely on transfers like Iowa https://www.espn.com/college-sports/story/_/id/38563828/ncaa-shrinks-window-athletes-enter-transfer-portal
  15. Hope for the Hawkeye wrestlers? AMES, Iowa -- An Iowa State football player accused of illegal sports wagering has had his case dismissed and faces no more legal action. A Story County judge granted the prosecution's motion on Monday to dismiss a misdemeanor tampering with records charge against tight end DeShawn Hanika after the state waited too long to indict him. https://www.espn.com/college-football/story/_/id/38550964/iowa-state-te-deshawn-hanika-betting-case-dismissed
  16. I was not complaining. I was just pointing out the irony of Iowa fans complaining about transfer ruining sports when they're the biggest beneficiaries of transfers in terms of starters on a D-1 wrestling team.
  17. Tom Ryan is known to watch NCAA finals matches involving his wrestlers from inside the tunnel.
  18. I don't mean he outwardly celebrates. But part of me thinks he breathes a little internal sigh of relief.
  19. you surely know that Mountain Dew is one of the most heavily caffeinated sodas out there...
  20. Members of the undefeated '72 Miami Dolphins reportedly pop a bottle of champagne every time a previously undefeated NFL team takes its first loss of the season. The 2007 New England Patriots went 16-0 before losing in the Super Bowl so the Dolphins had to wait a long time for that refreshing relief. Seriously though, do you think Cael celebrates a little bit inside when a previously unbeaten wrestler takes his first career loss? Even if it's his own guy? He's had several wrestlers finish with only 3 losses but no one has come closer to his unblemished 159-0 mark in NCAA D-1.
