  1. I've said this before but MM at 157 and 165 Haines makes more sense. Haines has a bigger frame and MM is a small 165 pounder.
  2. Who is leading the Hodge race so far? Throwing some names out there: Crooham Fix Ragusin Woods O'Toole Stallroci Brooks
  3. 125 - Davis dec McCrone - 3-0 133 - Bouzakis maj Shunk - 3-4 141 - Mendez dec BB - 3-7 149 - D'Emilio dec Kasak - 3-10 157 - Haines dec Wilcox - 6-10 165 - Mesenbrink tech Hepner - 11-10 174 - Starocci dec Welsh - 14-10 184 - Rogotzke dec Truax 14-13 197 - Brooks dec Geog - 17-13 285 - Kerkvliet dec Feldman - 20-13 PSU
  4. Mesenbrink is killing it. My only concern is that he's a bit undersized for the weight. Against the elite guys this might prove to be the difference. He almost got horsed by Fish.
  5. A Rocky Mountain High coach received a lifetime ban from coaching Idaho high school sports after striking a wrestler from an opposing school last weekend. A video of the incident shared with the Idaho Statesman shows Russell Brunson entering the ring and hitting a freshman from Nyssa, Oregon, at least three times during a match against Brunson’s son at the Skyview Duals on Saturday in Nampa. Officials had to stop the match to clear the Rocky Mountain assistant coach from the mat. He was not ejected from the tournament, West Ada spokesperson Niki Scheppers told the Statesman. Brunson explained in a letter Monday to the District Three Board of Control that he thought his son was put into an illegal choke hold and feared he was about to pass out. The board serves as the local arm of the Idaho High School Activities Association, the state governing body. “As a coach, the normal reaction would be to yell and point it out to the ref, but my reaction as a dad took it one step too far,” Brunson wrote. “What would you do if your kid was getting choked out, just 2 feet in front of your face? https://news.yahoo.com/idaho-wrestling-coach-hits-student-230904199.html?
  6. Maybe the suspended Iowa wrestlers got off easy? New England Patriots wide receiver Kayshon Boutte was arrested Thursday in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, over allegations of illegal sports betting while he played at LSU. Louisiana State Police said the charges against Boutte, 21, include a felony count of computer fraud and a misdemeanor count of gambling prohibited for persons under 21. The investigation is ongoing, police said, with additional charges possible. Investigators assigned to the Louisiana State Police Gaming Enforcement Division found that Boutte bet on sports from April 6, 2022, until May 7, 2023, when he was 20. Boutte allegedly used an alias to get around the age requirement for placing sports wagers in Louisiana. https://www.espn.com/nfl/story/_/id/39386960/patriots-kayshon-boutte-arrested-illegal-betting-lsu
  7. Frankly, I think they should be allowed to wrestle AND to bet on all the sports they want, including their own matches.
  8. Many on this board blame Cael for single handedly killing a National Dual Championship, which I think is BS. However, assuming we could magically add a National Dual Championship does this actually change anything (i.e. does another team actually win it?) or does it just add another trophy to Penn State's trophy case each year? This year it seems pretty certain barring catastrophic injuries or illness that Penn State will win Big 10s and NCAAs. Add a dual championship and Penn State just gets another 1st place trophy, no?
  9. If the suspended wrestlers come back this suddenly goes from a boring NCAA team race to an exciting one. There would also be a logjam with the homegrown guys and all the transfers.
  10. My predictions as of this time: 125 Davis - 7th 133 Nagao - 4th 141 Bartlett - 4th 149 Kasak - R12 157 Haines - 3rd 165 Mesenbrink - 3rd 174 Starocci - 1st 184 Truax - 4th 197 Brooks - 1st Hwt Kerk - 1st
  11. I think it was only 7 (Bartlett, SVN, Haines, Starocci, Truax, Brooks and Kerkvliet)
  12. I think Mesenbrink is likely to end the year in the top 5. Probably not Kasak though.
  13. Only Kasak is outside the top 10. Mesenbrink at #7 is their 2nd lowest ranked wrestler. 125 Davis - 4 133 Nagao -5 141 Bartlett -2 149 Kasak - 12 157 Haines - 1 165 Mesenbrink - 7 174 Starocci - 1 184 Truax - 5 197 Brooks - 1 HWT Kerkvliet - 1
  14. In the past the Young Guns Wrestling Club supplied Penn State and Iowa with their best wrestlers (Spencer Lee, Kemerer, Nolf, Vincenzo Joseph, Nico Megaludis, Josh Shields, Josh Maruca, Jimmy Gulibon, etc). But now is AWA taking over with guys like Keagen O'Toole, Mitchel Mesenbrink and the Mirasola twins? I believe the answer is yes. Whichever school can tap into the AWA pipeline will maintain dominance for the next decade.
  15. He's no Spencer Lee, that's for sure.
  16. Based on these rankings Iowa has to be the favorite for the team title.
  17. https://www.ncaa.com/_flysystem/public-s3/files/24_D1Men_Ranking1_Top33[99].pdf Penn State only has 4 wrestlers in the ranking and 0 ranked #1. 125 Ayala 131 Crookham 141 Woods 149 Lovett 157 Franek 165 O'Toole 174 Ruth 184 Keckeisen 197 Hidlay HWT Hendrickson
  18. He is still undefeated as the #1 seed at 157 but he's looked a bit off lately. He almost (and probably should have lost) to #21 Saldate yesterday and in many other matches he's not looking dominant at all. I've heard rumors that the weight cut is getting hard or perhaps a lingering injury?
