  1. His arm was trapped and he lifted him and planted him right on the trapped arm side. I have never seen that not called a slam before
  2. Why did ISU not challenge that was clearly an illegal slam? That ties the match and he’s on bottom. Instead the other guy gets to pick bottom and go up 2-0
  3. Wow! Finesilver 8 seed just lost at heavyweight
  4. I think Ramirez #4 going down is the biggest one so far. 125 the number 6 & 7 both lost already
  5. Gfeller and Pappas awesome match. Great scramble in OT
  6. Gotcha. Btw I thoroughly appreciate all the data you provide. Not trying to discredit all your hard work at all. I just think that this particular data set is skewed a bit by Brooks somehow getting the 3 seed and Dean getting the 9 seed. I think Brooks is a clear #1 at his weight and IMO he’s the third mostly likely to win out of all the weights (behind Lee and Yianni). Dean deserved the 9 seed but he’s much more likely to win it all than your typical #9
  7. I guess it depends what numbers you look at. In the last 5 championships, the schools combined avg. was 5 champs. They did have four one of those years but also had six one year. I’m not sure what formula you used to get PSUs expected champs at only 1.5, but I’d definitely take the over on that :)
  8. I’d guess similar to last year. 8 or 9 out of 10 champs from top two seeds (I’d say 9 or 10 if you include top 3 seeds), but a fair amount of upsets to make AA
  9. Brooks, Starocci, Haines… come on Jimmy there’s 3 on the team you are a “fan” of alone.
  10. Not sure who but I’m guessing it happens at 197
  11. That’s right. It didn’t matter back then that it was 330 qualifiers because the brackets weren’t all going to be nice and neat anyway. Then when they switched to the new formula, no one wanted to vote to get rid of an extra qualifier per weight even though it would make more sense to have an even 32 man bracket
  12. I’m rooting for Nino to win it all but he is the smart bet here. There are certainly other upsets that could happen and many good ones have been pointed out. However, if Nino would lose to Dean/Allred in the quarters, I don’t even think it would be considered an “upset”
  13. I’m sure they both had their hearts set on a national title. So knowing one of your sons is going to be heartbroken while the other son wins a national championship over him has to be tough. At least the younger bro has another year to get his title. If he wins it all next year, it will sting a lot less!
  14. What’s so bad about that photo? I have seen much worse. I never understood why newspapers had to use photos that had wrestlers in “awkward” positions
  15. https://www.ncaa.com/news/wrestling/article/2023-03-12/nathan-lackman-wins-diii-national-wrestling-title-ot-win-over-his-brother Nathan Lackman beat his younger brother Matt in overtime to win a D3 National Championship. Has this ever happened before at another level? I’m sure that’s an emotional roller coaster for their parents!
  16. It is sad that this is true but it is true
  17. In overtime… you left that part out.
  18. Fair enough. I guess my expectations were pretty low. I would add that his state titles were at 106 and 113 so as you mentioned he is undersized.
  19. Are those an A minus for Carter and Brooks or is it a regular A and a dash? I would have given them an A+, and I wouldn’t be quite so hard on Steen since he pretty much lived up to expectations. Otherwise a fair analysis
  20. That is crazy that he wasn’t DQed for that!
  21. I’ll take Truax if he is seeded that low… based on his coaches ranking he may be
  22. Probably closer to 141 lol. I get what your saying but my point was if the OP is limiting it to the 133 era, RBY has a case
  23. This is honestly probably the most likely scenario. I can think of any other situation where RYB would not be 1st without dishonesty or just a flat out mistake
  24. I’m a big proponent of making folkstyle a little more like freestyle, but I really don’t think the 10 freestyle weight classes are distributed very well at all. It’s because we tried to fill in between the Olympics weights and they just did the best they could with that. If you are trying to just make up 10 good weight classes from scratch, you would never pick these. Just look at the distribution. 57 61 (+4kg) 65 (+4) 70 (+5) 74 (+4) 79 (+5) 86 (+7) 92 (+6) 97 (+5) 125 (+28) Keep in mind kg is 2.2 lbs and percentage of body weight is much larger for small guys. So you have a 5kg gap at 65-70 and 74-79, then go up to 7kg gap between 79-86? Then back down to only 5kg for 92-97? Those bigger guys could have a much larger gap and make the weights closer together in the middle weights where there’s a lot more wrestlers.
  25. He’s only the 3rd best 133 right now…according to the coaches ranking lol In all seriousness, it depends on your criteria. OP said 133 not 130 or 137. If he wins 3 titles at 133, it looks like he will be the first to ever do that, right? Not saying that necessarily makes him the “best” but he would have the hardware to back that claim.
