How many times will the word "resilite" be said? What's your bet?
-
That was a good match. Closer than I expected. Much tighter than Caliendo/MM was.
-
Is this match going to end up being a dud?
-
This really has the strong appearance of a on Ayala's part. Trying to preserve the #2 seed at the Big Tens.
-
That makes sense. Losing, and badly, to a guy who is 50 pounds lighter and not even the starter... No sense can be made of that.

I'm just spitballiing here but have you guys considered that Nagao is wrestling a tougher schedule..... I'm just messing with you guys.... Actually I would say he was really unknown to a lot of guys last year and caught them by surprise. Not a real high end recruit, not much buzz around him until he started giving guys real tough matches and even then it wasn't really until the big tens that people really noticed how much of a match up problem he was. You also have to consider that real hard top guys, especially leg riders benefit from the wear and tear that comes in tournaments.

I'm not saying that future outcomes will be better or worse for the Iowa wrestlers but I imagine that if at Carver they wrestle their best and have 100% crowd support to motivate them, then in a tournament at a neutral site, they don't win a single rematch.

I thoroughly enjoyed the meet and have a couple thoughts: 125 is going to be very interesting. These guys are are pretty equal and anyone can seemingly beat anyone in any given day. I think Ayala and Davis were evenly matched and it could go either way at any time. I also think the knee down stance in this case would be a stall if Davis had actually attempted shots (although if starocci's throat block is a stall call than this is). Bartlett has proven he's improved. Closer matches but he definitely is better than last year. Kasak and Rathjen are pretty much equal and that match could go either way but I'm not sure either guy is an AA at this point. In any event everyone is chasing Lovett and from what I saw last night from him good luck. MM is quite better than Caliendo and I expect that gap to grow. If the matches get "tighter" it will only be due to Caliendo turning into a typical block/slowdown/low offense guy who tries to "Lewan" a victory. Starocci's may have a conditioning problem or a boredom problem. Not sure but we will see. Maybe he's still isn't 100%. Brooks is Brooks. Kerk right now is a monster. Bastida may have something for him but I think the size/strength edge will be too great.

I thought he could be a tight match. I'm glad he fought hard.

I never want to hear Iowa have complain about calls in away matches. Carver is a joke... It's ridiculous and the crowd is obnoxious.
-
That's what I was thinking... He looks way more beat up than that.
-
I would say a great stew has to have at least carrots or potatoes. Having neither is just meat sitting in gravy.
-
I didn't really think Kasak would qualify? He may be higher ranked but it's not like he's heavily favored or a seasoned veteran. Heck he may not even be the starter according to Cael.

We were the Red Devils and ran out to "Running with the Devil."

I think the Glazier v. Brooks match is one that could be close. Glazier is a guy who seems to have a good motor and he likes to score. His best win is against Allred who has been quite underwhelming this year, but Glazier did look good in the match. I guess Friday night we will see just how good he is.

I predict a great night of wrestling! Does that count?

Where would anyone get information regarding someone not wrestling in the meet? I suggested it could happen (not Bartlett but just certain guys not going) but that just seemed like a possibility due to how often it seems to happen for one reason or another. I have to doubt that anyone affiliated with the PSU program or Iowa program that has intimate knowledge of the situation would divulge that. Certainly the wrestlers know better and the coaches definitely wouldn't reveal that.
-
Do we realistically think that both teams will put out all of their starters in this match up? My guess is that each team holds back at least 1. I say the Hawks hold back Glazier and PSU holds back Davis. My reasoning would be an undefeated Glazier gets the 2 seed in the BigTen and pretty much get a chance to surprise Brooks in the finals having no prior experience with him. With Davis' win over D'agustino, and D'agustino win over Ayala if Davis wins his matches against Rutgers, Nebraska and Edinboro, very doable, he will be the #2 seed with an easier path(maybe even a bye) to the quarterfinals. Anyone else have any thoughts on this? You have to pick at least 1 from each team and why it would make sense.

If this match has happened last year that exchange is scored differently however, with the new rules regarding control being required, i still think this a neutral danger scenario at which point it's clearly not enough time for the requisite count to be completed. I know it's easy to hate on PSU but I certainly don't believe they "get" more calls and I know the coaches at PSU are definitely not ref bullies like a lot of other guys out there. A lot of the comments come across as "sour grapes." I didn't see nearly as many guys hating on the Woods not pinned situation that happened in the Iowa match last night so maybe there is just a little too much PSU hate going on.

I probably would have called it a takedown but it's easy to say that from my living room. Like I said, they stayed with the call on the mat because they felt it didn't meet criteria for danger takedown. I have never been a referee, I didn't know what the training for that situation looks like. We can read the rule book but there is always a bit of room to interpret situations like that.
-
I agree but how was only 1 stall called against him though?
-
I think we all lost that match
-
He may have more matches than actual shots... Forget takedowns.
-
I think he has more matches on the season than takedowns in those matches.
-
The refs felt that there was no control so they counted danger but it didn't make the count. Doesn't really matter what we think but I can see both sides. If it had been ruled a takedown they probably wouldn't have overturned it. Just is what it is sometimes.
