  1. if it's a book about wrestling coloring is fine - but please make sure it's not scratch and sniff!
  2. if it happens in football... https://www.msn.com/en-us/sports/other/he-was-the-13-million-qb-recruit-now-he-s-suing-the-boosters-who-never-paid-up/ar-BB1mMSgN?ocid=msedgntp&pc=HCTS&cvid=f6213cfa3f964d41acbaa33f3e6f13af&ei=6 He Was the $13 Million QB Recruit. Now He’s Suing the Boosters Who Never Paid Up. (msn.com)
  3. I almost read that as Joy Division (cue Ian Curtis or New Order).
  4. Sanderson has an Olympic Gold and World Silver Zeke Jones has Olympic Silver and World Gold & Bronze Jake Varner has Olympic Gold and World Bronze
  5. Yianni D has gone on record stating he wants to run a (college) program.
  6. DT beats Dake in another (fantasy) match up, this one as the best wrestler of his generation.
  7. Derek Moore wrestled for Lenny Zalesky at UC Davis
  8. It would be funny if Cael brought in Coleman Scott for a year or two.
  9. If you've never pushed someone, retaliated or almost got in a fight while wrestling a match, I have to wonder if you ever wrestled. Booing is one thing. What that dude wearing the NLWC gear yelled at JB was classless loser level $hit. Unless he was the father of Facundo, Mesenbrink or Nolf, he should have kept his ass on his hands and stayed in his seat (and Facundo, Mes and Nolf's fathers have all seen enough wrestling that they wouldn't have done what that d!ck did).
  10. 5 Hodge Trophy winners: Lee Retherford Dake Brooks Parris * 2 of them won it twice, Retherford and Lee Snyder wasn't awarded a Hodge, but did win a Senior Freestyle World Championship while in college Other than Parris, the other 5 OTT winners have at least 3 NCAA titles each, with Dake and Brooks 4 timers. Retherford and Brooks college teams won 7 NCAA Championships, Snyder's 1 and Lee's 1. ** Interesting item is that in three of the OTT finals, the wrestlers competing were alumni of the same universities: SLee/Gilman, Retherford/NLee and Brooks/Taylor.
  11. Apparently, they were doing a pre-cert in early October and the information was somehow sent to the NCAA, so it became official. Affected most of the light and middle-weights up to Walsh.
  12. and Joe Duca. If IU didn't have the weight cert issue in 2014-15, Duca could have done much better than what he finished with.
  13. JW - Thanks for the addition/reminder. Great error on my part. I'd forgotten Bobby Douglas had wrestled at OSU. Which closes the circle (his ASU outlier team from 1988), as those are the coaches that have won NCAA championships from Gable's 1st one at Iowa through this most recent one that Sanderson has with Penn State.
  14. and Zalesky for the B1G coaches with NC teams (oversight)...
  15. An absolute legend in his own lifetime! Interesting item: As good as the B1G is in wrestling, the Big8/12 has produced the head coaches with the best results and most team Championships since the mid-70s - granted with the majority coming at B1G institutions (Big8/12 wrestlers that have coached NC teams in this time-frame: Gable, Gibbons, Seay, Robinson and Sanderson compared with Brands and Ryan from the B1G).
  16. But the current Iowa program does have NIL and portal transfers. Just not the championships a lot of hawk fans think they are predordained.
  17. I'm no Iowa liker or defender, in fact, I enjoy seeing them lose. However, I don't get all of the fire Brands rhetoric. What is the follow-up strategy, hire a coach with NO NCAA DI head coaching experience? There is no cognitive evidence that supports DT, Dake or JB (or even Askren) having a desire to take the job in IC, or that they are even capable of being a successful head coach. Developing middle and high school kids is not the same as running a DI program with a bunch of blue-chippers. And if Tom is "replaced", what does that do to wrestlers like Ayala, Arnold and Keuter, who are definitely Hawks based on the Iowa tradition and are obviously Brands guys? Finishing behind Penn State sucks for anyone not Penn State. I get the frustration. I was frustrated with what was going on with the wrestling in Happy Valley for a long time. But change for the sake of change at Iowa because they aren't winning National Championships is insanity. In 2018 I didn't think Iowa was going to win NCAAs in 2021 (sorry you Iowa cats, 2020 doesn't count - there's no banner and no NCAA recognition, there was a very good chance Iowa could have won it, but anything can happen - and covid did). So, what I'm getting at with that last paragraph is who knows what can happen in a couple of years. Iowa could have 4 champs (let's say Ayala, the youngest Ferrari, Arnold and Skeeter-keeter), along with a few AAs and be right there in the conversation. Doubtful, but again, anything can happen.
  18. Figs from Selma and Renteria from Buchanan; a lot of familiarity with the two being from the Central Section and both of the high schools having strong high school programs. It's not surprising that Renteria took one from him.
  19. Starocci, conceivably, could do what Massa did last year when Bormet pulled him back. Massa had graduated and was teaching somewhere in Michigan (hour or so from Ann Arbor). He wa$ lured back to help them make a run (possibly 2nd semester, same as they did with Gomez this just completed season?). I believe he/Massa was technically enrolled, but not sure if he physically attended any classes and think he was on some form of hybrid practice schedule (perhaps some days in the Mish room, but others closer to home with a former DI wrestler - but I may be remembering incorrectly on that).
  20. Why isn't Pritzlaff in the Wisci conversation? New AD, new opportunity.
  21. From how John does things, Hamiti probably doesn't want to cut to 149
  22. Jimmy - Such the Penn State homer/fan that he leaves off from an all-timer list: Jeff Prescott (2x champ) Andy Matter (1st 2x champ for Penn State) Jimmy Martin (1st 4x AA that was a National Champion) Sonny Abe (4x AA that went 4, 3, 2, 1) Phil Davis (4x AA, 1x National Champ)
  23. 1. Sanderson (undefeated) 2. Smith (1st to do it) 2a. Dake (for 3 consecutive seasons, the year after he won the wrestler he beat in the finals was an NCAA champ - and Montell Marion made another final a couple of years after losing to Dake their freshman year) 3...
