If you take away football money, we would see many more programs cut entirely or significantly reduced. Maybe Iowa and PSU can keep going as they are, but forget about places like Illinois, Indiana, Northwestern, etc. I'm worried about Oregon State and Stanford with what happened to the PAC12. How exactly does a D3 athlete bring in money for the school? Replace that athlete with a student not participating in athletics and the school would save money from the cost of running the athletic program. The only world in which D3 athletes make money is if there is a very significant alumni donor base for the program (you can probably count on one hand the number of D3 wrestling programs that raise more than they spend) or if the university is such an awful place that it struggles to get full enrollment.

But why get a degree specifically in hotels vs just majoring in something more traditional, going to consulting, getting an MBA. Surely that latter is viewed as a better path to managing any business, including hotels, than an entire degree focused on hotels?

But why would they need multiple majors housed in an entire school that focuses on human ecology? Are people really getting undergrad degrees at Cornell majoring in hotels? Most Ivies don't even have an undergrad business degree because it's deemed to be not academic enough, let alone an entire undergrad program specifically focused on hotel management. It's very unique.

It's just odd that they never consolidated the undergrad programs. I could see having an ecology major, but why an entire ecology school? Industrial and labor relations is an entire school? Hotel Administration as an entire school vs maybe a course or two as part of a business school? It's all very strange.

The article you linked implies that it was part of the ACC for 20 years prior to his arrival. Of course, it also highlights how he turned the program around in his time as a coach. Turning "Tarleton State," which few people outside of Texas have ever heard of, into a successful program is a completely different challenge. Why is Tarleton State the place where there is now support to start a program...Is there any chance at Texas A&M, Rice, Texas Tech, UT Austin, Baylor, etc? Or is the plan that once Tarleton state has a program, it could motivate some of the more marquee Texas universities?

You need to have a conversation with Mel Gibson. Bet you could really help his view on the world with this logic.

Given these circumstances and his prior actions at Ok state that nobody denies (irresponsible use of guns and almost killing somebody with his driving), the idea of bringing him onto a college campus once again is a very scary prospect. Any coach that makes that decision should be held accountable if he were to behave as history tells us he likely will.

Is anybody going to report on what happened here? Seems like it's a lot of speculation in terms of him being "innocent" or the accuser withdrawing the allegations (for whatever reason?). Based on Ferrari's past actions, I give him zero benefit of the doubt for anything here, but we can't really draw a conclusion unless somebody does some actual reporting.

If we want wrestling to grow (or even stay the same size) at the NCAA level, the only way is to have more events that people will want to watch live. That means duals that actually matter. The current system where 95% of the season is meaningless and the last 5% has a predetermined winner (due to lack of parity) will only lead to more programs dropping the sport. We tried the complaining approach where we whine about how much money other sports make. We tried complaining about how title IX is unfair to men and electing the “right people” would save the sport. We tried believing the lie about how wrestling teams can help drive enrollment…Sorry that’s all BS. It comes down to creating a product that makes $$$.

I'm more amazed that the guy named after Dan Gable didn't wrestle for Iowa and the guy named after Cael Sanderson isn't going to wrestle for PSU.

Is wrestling responsible for the decades of awful performance by Duke Football as well? Or was wrestling simply dormant over the past fifty years from exerting its great effects on the football team?

Wow...That is a polite way of saying they have zero interest in him. Why would they be when they have Logan Paula and other social media influencers? So what is he going to do if not Olympic wrestling or WWE? Maybe he'll make a run at MMA?

Nope. A wall is an easy and simple solution. It will completely solve the problem and and anyone half competent could build it almost immediately upon becoming president.

I have a very simple answer. We don't have a wall. I have a very simple solution to this problem. We elect somebody who says he will build a wall. Once we do this, that person will definitely follow through on the promise of building that wall. And once that wall is built, I'm sure all of our problems will be solved. Because this is a simple problem with a simple solution, a wall-and anybody who wants this problem solved can build that wall in less than 4 years, thereby ending illegal immigration. I don't know why nobody has thought of or implemented this simple solution, to what is obviously a very simple problem. There is zero chance that it is a complicated problem with a complicated and difficult answer. But I'm sure the very smart people of America will hopefully recognize that the wall is a solution and act accordingly by electing the first person to promise it.

This is true-he is accountable, but I think the university failed as well. If you are running a program, and your athletes think it won't be a problem to gamble on athletics, you are doing something very wrong. Refusing to take accountability when you screw up/blaming the rules and law rather than your inability to follow them is a universal problem.

I completely agree with what you're saying here, that Brands is accountable for his actions and should be penalized with a loss of eligibility. I'd even say a year suspension is a very light penalty for gambling on your own university. Do you think Iowa or the coaching staff is responsible as well though? Clearly they failed to effectively communicate the consequences of gambling to their athletes. Do you think gambling is happening everywhere and Iowa/Iowa state simply were caught because of enforcement actions focused on Iowa, or are the Iowa schools doing a disservice to their athletes?

So what? The athletes can’t gamble or legalized sports betting falls apart. Iowa schools have made that clear to its athletes.

So you don’t want them to enforce the gambling rule because you don’t like it even though almost every university (with the exception of Iowa I guess) emphasizes to its athletes just how severe an infraction it is to gamble? I don’t understand how anyone competing at the NCAA level would even think for a second it’s ok to gamble, let alone on your own school. Somehow, this was not the case at Iowa and Iowa state.

The rule against athletes gambling has existed for a very long time-nothing hypocritical about it. What do you expect to happen when you place a bet on your own school?

If Nelson Brands is being honest in his tweet, and I have no reason to think he isn’t, he was completely failed by the Iowa coaches and compliance staff. Yes, he is ultimately responsible, but it’s the job of the coaches and admin to make these consequences crystal clear to all of the athletes. Why would he tweet something that makes his family and their coworkers look so bad unless he is being honest?
