  1. Did Bryan Pearsall take another job or is he staying on staff? Noticed he and Valenti have the same title it appears.
  2. My hope would be that it creates a little more parity and more access to NCAA Tournament for individuals from those schools since they would get allocations and wouldn't have to go through numerous rounds of wrestlebacks against the Power Five schools. I would also hope its gives those schools a chance to compete for a conference championship and keep them relevant in their athletic departments in a time where wrestling is on the chopping block. Maybe that doesn't matter to ADs and Presidents but right now I can't see a scenario where a non-power five team competes for a conference title. This is just one year but as good as South Dakota State was they were 30 points behind Iowa State in the 12 team Big 12. Northern Iowa was 50 back. Oregon State was around 20 points back in a six team conference and they probably are not going to have as much TV revenue coming in going forward depending on where they end up.
  3. Does anybody know what is the plan for the remaining PAC-12 schools for this coming year? I believe the conferences will be as follows and you need at least six schools to earn allocations to the NCAA Tournament. I also don't know if Morgan State has found a conference home. ACC - Adds Stanford (7 schools) Duke, NC State, North Carolina, Pittsburgh, Stanford, Virginia, Virginia Tech Big 12 - Adds Arizona State (14 schools) Air Force, Arizona State, Cal Baptist, Iowa State, Missouri, North Dakota State, Northern Colorado, Northern Iowa, Oklahoma, Oklahoma State, South Dakota State, Utah Valley, West Virginia, Wyoming Big 10 - remains same (14 schools) Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Maryland, Michigan, Michigan State, Minnesota, Nebraska, Northwestern, Ohio State, Penn State, Purdue, Rutgers, Wisconsin EIWA - splits with Ivy (11 schools) American, Army, Binghamton, Bucknell, Drexel, Franklin & Marshall, Hofstra, Lehigh, LIU, Navy, Sacred Heart Ivy - New conference (6 schools) Brown, Columbia, Cornell, Harvard, Penn, Princeton MAC - stays same (13 schools) Bloomsburg, Buffalo, Central Michigan, Clarion, Cleveland State, Edinboro, George Mason, Kent State, Lock Haven, Northern Illinois, Ohio, Rider, SIU-Edwardsville SoCon - Bellarmine is now eligible I believe (9 schools) Appalachian State, Bellarmine, Campbell, Chattanooga, Davidson, Gardner Webb, Presbyterian, The Citadel, VMI Unknown Schools to me - 5 Cal Poly, CSU Bakersfield, Little Rock, Oregon State, Morgan State As a personal preference, I think Morgan State to the MAC makes sense even though they want EIWA. I would also love for parity and competive balance out west to see the PAC 12 & Big 12 schools divide into Power 5 and non-power 5 conference. Power 5: Arizona State, Iowa State, Missouri, Oklahoma, Oklahoma State, West Virginia Non-Power Five: Air Force, Cal Baptist, Cal Poly, CSU Bakersfield, Little Rock, North Dakota State, Northern Colorado, Northern Iowa, Oregon State, South Dakota State, Utah Valley, Wyoming
  4. That obviously helped but essentially he and Davis canceled each other out since as a #9 seed Starocci was "expected" to lose in the round of 12 where Davis did.
  5. I also should have added All-Americans Projected (Top 8 seeds vs. Actual) by conference ACC: 8 - 11 = (-3) Big 12: 20-21 = (-1) Big Ten: 30-27 = (+3) EIWA: 9-11 = (-2) MAC: 3-1 = (+2) PAC 12: 9-8 = (+1) SoCon: 1-1 = (-)
  6. Just looking at some stats from the team scores that I found interesting. 2024 Penn State vs. 1997 Iowa For those wondering about the 3 pt. takedown and 4 point near fall and how that affected bonus points. Penn State gained 11 extra team points via bonus that they would not have received had it not been for a combination of the above scoring changes since 1997 although you could argue some of their tech falls might have still come as some came like 5 minutes into the match. They had 8 total tech falls so that accounts for 4 of those points (tech falls going to major decisions = -0.5 team points) Team Over-performers and under-performers - looking at how teams were projected to score based strictly on seeds (advancement and placement points) and how many placement and advancement points they actually scored (no bonus) Over-Performers 1. Ohio State (+16.5) 2. Michigan (+16) 3. Stanford (+15) 4. Little Rock (+10) 4. Lock Haven (+10) 6. Virginia Tech (+9) 7. Oklahoma (+8.5) 8. Penn State (+7) 9. Navy (6.5) 9. 7. I will add my own question. I hope this doesn't come off as mean towards the USA coaches but I am generally curious. What kind of coaching do they actually do and what are their actual duties? Do guys go out to Colorado more than I realize? It seems like all the wrestlers training for the Olympics are doing so at their RTCs and when they go to international events I see their "College" coaches in their corner. I don't know this for a fact but since Esposito got back into college coaching so quickly, to me it adds to the speculation that Coleman Scott is going to eventually be the head coach at Oklahoma State it is just a matter of when and that Esposito was probably told that he was not going to be the head coach. But I could be reading too much into this.
  8. I know you are just copying this but I am curious to know how the wrestling committee can begin selections (at-large bids) before the coaches ranking portal closes.
  9. Pitzer wasn't eligible to be ranked since he hadn't wrestled since January 21. The ACC records only include results against those who are also competing at the postseason in the same weight so Trephen was 4-0 in conference duals but it is interesting that he only hit 1 other starter. Virginia Tech sent out Jim Mullen against him and Trephen won 4-1.
  10. Not really many changes. Pitzer is in for Pittsburgh at the #4 seed is probably the most notable. 15. I would love to See the PAC 12 kind of join forces with the Mountain West and other non Power 5s of the Big 12 and make a conference could be interesting. That would have Oregon State, Air Force, Wyoming. Then maybe also take some other teams that aren't necessarily going to compete with the true Power 5s of the big 12 like Cal Baptist, North Dakota State, South Dakota State. Northern Colorado, Northern Iowa, and Utah Valley. I am pretty sure wrestling though is not the main concern of conference realignment and I also don't think those coaches would want to give up their Big 12 associate affiliation. That would still leave Iowa State, Missouri, Oklahoma, Oklahoma State, West Virginia, and Arizona State in the Big 12.
  16. Final one. They also have random draw after 8 so the byes will move around and there will be some really good wrestlers getting randomly placed in the bracket. Again, I am just a nobody wrestling fan so feel free to let me know where you think I went wrong. I plan to update these after pre-seeds and brackets are announced for all of the weights. I hope you enjoyed them. Big 12 Interactive Brackets Interactive Brackets: use the interactive brackets using the following letters: D, M, T, F (decision, major, tech, fall). 17. I debated writing this because I do appreciate thie coverage that they normally provide and have elevated the sport but they need to put a disclaimer on this week's shows that no actual wrestling information is found within these episodes. Today they made a joke about having people on the show that knew nothing about wrestling. How can you have a show about Starocci's injury and invite a guest host who didn't even realize that Starocci got injured almost 5 days ago now? That came after Monday's episode where Christian Pyles had no idea on Monday that Starocci would have to wrestle two matches at the Big 10 Tournament to satisfy the new requirements for an at-large bid. Also, Ben Askren asked the question if Starrocci was even eligible for an at-large bid because he didn't have 15 matches? I don't know expect them to know everything but you need to have a general awareness of the rules and the sport and qualifying process. How can you be a so called expert and have no idea about this process?
  18. 125 I debated about a lot. Kaylor lost to Reno so I am not sure how much that hurts him. 165 was the other weight I could be way off because the starters hardly wrestled each other in the regular season.

  21. It will be interesting if the EIWA schools start to schedule more conference duals or develop a conference schedule when they have 11 schools as opposed to right now where it looks like teams just choose who they want to wrestle based on how they view themselves competitively. I know Kenny Monday (Morgan State HC) said in an interview after the Penn match that they would like to get in the EIWA based on geography and they have wrestled a lot of those schools this year. I feel like Morgan State fits better with the MAC from a school profile but we will see. Although, the MAC though will have more teams (13 - 11) than the EIWA after this year with Morgan State a TBD. I believe Bellarmine is already accepted into the SoCon and it seems obvious to me on geography and that they are in the same conference (Atlantic Sun) in other sports as Bellarmine that the SoCon would also be the fit for Queens College which would give the SoCon 10 schools. I think those are the only three schools who are not in a conference or eligible for the NCAA Tournament this year but are "moving into" the Division I ranks. Now I just got angry because I remembered Lindenwood who probably could have also slid into the MAC or even opened the possibility for the MAC to split and give those schools more a chance to compete for NCAA Tournament spots.

  24. I use head to head mostly. I would assume that is the primary seeding criteria but I don't know that for sure. There are definitely weights that are up in the air and 141 is one of them. I didn't know where to put Gioffre because neither he or McNeil wrestled in the UVA/UNC dual. Giofree didn't beat the starter but he also went out for the dual and won to his credit while Crook did not wrestle. A couple other weights that I will be interested to see how they do seeding. 157: I have no idea where you put Bryce Andonian. He is still listed as the starter according to wrestlestat but his only ACC result is a loss to Scott at CKLV. 165: The top three all split with each other so all three have an argument. Fields had the closest loss and then Heller beat Brady head-to-head was my logic but you can argue that in circles. 174: McCoy who I have at #2 beat my #3 Eischens and #4 Faison but lost to #5 Augustine. 184: There were a lot of matchups that didn't happen in the regular season and everybody has at least one loss in conference so that is another where there are definitely arguments for and against moving those guys. 285: The HWTs also had a lot of missed regular season matchups. I don't know what you do with Pitzer who if he returns for the postseason it would be his first conference tournament and he did not have any regular season ACC results due to injury. That being said, that makes him a dangerous #6 seed (or whever he ends up) if he is healthy for the postseason.
  25. Again, I am just a nobody wrestling fan so feel free to let me know where you think I went wrong or if I have the wrong starter or any general feedback ACC Interactive Brackets Interactive Brackets: use the interactive brackets using the following letters: D, M, T, F (decision, major, tech, fall). Seed changes: You can change those seeds on the 125R, 133R, 141R, etc. sheets and it will automatically update the team predictions based off of seeds with no bonus factored in. Incomplete data: I only have a wrestlers record vs. who I am projecting will be the starters at that same weight. The ACC duals are done so I figured I would get started but I will add in wrester's win-loss records, coaches ranking, RPI, and actual wrestlestat ranking (I have them all listed at #99 right now just to make the formulas work).
