  1. I would think the opposite. Most of the smoke flavor comes from the first few hours of smoking. Some people use an oven after the meat is wrapped.
  2. Let me get this straight, you believe that after having passed around the original Constitution draft to the colonies, which contains all the wherewithal about national defense and the Commander in Chief and all, the delegates returned with their list of improvements/additions to the Constitution that had been proposed, and one of them was for the nation to be sure and give itself permission to arm and defend itself?
  3. This is correct. So many laws have been passed. So many laws have not been enforced. Over and over again the only people hindered by them are the law abiding. You can’t even legally buy your kids or grandkids a gift anymore. That helps a lot, I’m sure. Because it doesn’t say: “well regulated shall not be infringed.”
  4. Let me see, we started out with “shall not be infringed” and we’ve gotten less strict?
  5. Some guys like putting the foil wrapped meat in something that’s well insulated, like an ice chest, and let it cool down slowly for up to 8 hours before slicing and eating. This is not entirely necessary, but my brisket qualifies as one of those “you don’t need no teeth to eat my beef”.
  6. Gun culture? They used to teach marksmanship and safety in schools. In scouting. The NRA is still the largest firearm safety instruction group of all. Guess how many mass shooters were members of the NRA.
  7. I smoked a 10lb brisket 2 days ago that once sliced, fit easily into a 1 gal. freezer bag.
  8. You get deep into what this thread is evolving to and you’ll find that the majority of the perpetrators had been prescribed behavioral drugs, whether currently or previously. Most were still themselves youthful, like the victims and perpetrators of inner city gang violence, which tends to go un-noted. As for the OP, it’s a clumsy attempt at criticizing those who point out that more people are beaten to death than killed by ALL rifles each year. ALL, as in those that are and those that are not erroneously labeled. Whether this criticism extends to all private ownership of guns or expanding on red flag laws is unclear, though the reference to the NRA is insightful. Personally, I would rather see current gun laws enforced before writing any new ones.
  9. We need to do an in depth analysis before committing to a decision.
  10. Did you like Coolidge?
  11. And yet, the Company ran rampant during his tenure.
  12. I haven’t looked in a long time but I’ve never seen them sold separately. I don’t know if they are available where you are, but Oklahoma Joe makes an upright deluxe version for $450 that is really nice, has hangers for chicken and such. This: https://www.acehardware.com/departments/outdoor-living/grills-and-smokers/smokers/8023745
  13. I don’t know about Traegers, but I’ve put a small metal pan under the grate as close to the fire as it’ll go. Works ok.
  14. Turkey is better smoked than deep fried. Ham I like to sparsely stick cloves in. I’ve watched people nibble on it for half an hour, they can’t stop reaching for it. I smoke both for about 8-10 hours. Smoke all the way, no wrap. Chicken quarters about 4 hours. Check the temp. Like turkey - better than fried. The slow cooking seems to render the fat better than fast cooking. I started out with cheapy uprights with a water pan. Wore out about three of them. I learned that cutting a whole onion in half and dropping it in the water pan added a subtle but favorable flavor to brisket. A neighbor moved away about 12 years ago and told me he wasn’t going to take the one he had with him, he never used it while he lived there, if I wanted it, come get it. I went to look at it and was amazed, overwhelmed. Theres an offset traeger at Ace for $529. This one is about the same size. The one cubic foot firebox is 1/4” thick steel. The cooking chamber is 13” x 24” probably 5/16” thick, 2” pipe legs and heavy 6” cast iron wheels, 3 1/2” smokestack. It is very heavy. It was made by Log Cabin Smokers, I’m sure now defunct, out of Chouteau, (pronounced show-toe)OK. The amount of welding on it is impressive. I was lucky that day. Once I learned how to control the fire I have been able to cook some amazing tasting food. My wife too, nudges me into cooking mostly brisket from time to time. I’ll be cooking another one very soon.
  15. Do you ever why the countries that our leaders decide we need to send troops in to help with some political problem, that was likely originated, or at least exacerbated by the CIA, are always in a region where poppies grow?
  16. Many requests to turn the prompter around and just let us read it ourselves.
  17. It is my understanding that all commitments are for six years. It can be three or four active and the rest inactive, but every citizen can be called on for six years of their life if need be. It appears that the prep school wrestlers attend tournaments, much in the fashion of red shirts at other universities.
