  1. OK... I just realized I was thinking of the wrong former Soviet republic anyway!
  2. Not necessarily. I could have gone that route (as several training partners did), but would have gotten absolutely smashed at the world/Olympic level. It wasn't worth the time or money investment, but also would have felt weird to rep another country. Additionally, Olympic qualification was becoming a thing and I wouldn't have made it out of the qualifier, though I'm not sure which cycle it went into place. And I agree with Lleynor. I would never root for one of the Americans wearing another color vs. USA. Except maybe if Fix were involved.
  3. Isn't there a history with this happening in Azerbaijan, like more than in other places?
  4. I've had the opportunity to work some camps with Nate, as well as share some meals and hear some great stories. He just has a great way about him. You can't help but be energized in Nate Carr's presence.
  5. My son won his state quarters, scoring two sets of nearfall in the third period to get the win. 30 minutes later, I see my father in law moping around talking about how "he could have had him." It took me a couple of minutes to realize that grandpa had no clue that the boy had won by 3! He thought he had lost because he didn't get the fall.
  6. By "both" are you referring to Starocci and SVN or both or Kerks?
  7. I'm pretty sure it was Zo's singlet and Zo was in his corner.
  8. Chris Perry might want to try some himself?
  9. I think most states have removed wrestling from their PE curriculum within the past 30 years. A friend of mine, an Ohio State PE grad recently told me that tOSU eliminated PE as a major, because it PE no longer a state requirement to earn a diploma. tOSU was ranked as the #1 PE program on the planet at the time. Also, as far as the BJJ/UFC connection. Please keep in mind that the whole reason that the UFC exists was that it was created to be a PPV infomercial for BJJ.
  10. Great post! You don't think PD3 will show? What makes you say that?
  11. Nate is fantastic. Just a great guy and a great teacher. Fantastic technique, especially his duck series. You can see a lot of Nate Carr in Kurt Angle and Cary Kolat.
  12. https://www.nbcsports.com/olympics/news/abdulrashid-sadulaev-suspension
  13. Very possible, but Zabrailov should be able to qualify the weight without much trouble.
  14. That cut to 165 will be terrible for him!
  15. We can expect that they will be told "no Olympics" only to be allowed to compete at the last minute.
  16. I go for "no show" but he posted recently about a significant weight loss.
  17. Interesting that Saduleev has also been suspended in the past for wearing a t-shirt of Imam Shamil, a 19th century Dagestani leader who resisted Russian imperialism for decades.
  18. This is their Olympic Qualifier. If your weight is already qualified, you are not allowed to enter. Kinda like we had a tournament a little while back with only Nick Lee and Richards entered. That is why there is no Sidakov or Uguev. (Russia did qualify at 57, correct?)
  19. I don't think either of those guys were signed up for the qualifier. They should probably be a bit concerned going forward, though.
