Your entire argument is penn state should have turned away a 2x AA ,ncaa finalist who walked on with no recruitment and no scholarship money for beard, bc he has more eligibility? even though beard has never truely looked like a title contender and Dean literally beat him multiple times in wrestles off and then won an ncaa title …beard is in his 5th year out of high school and has placed 7th one time and has the same amount of loses as dean this year , heck the biggest win of his career is over Dean , a 2 pt win in his home gym in mid December in a match he had every reason to really get up for , plus there has been talk of brooks eventually moving up to 197 , which could happen next season so I doubt penn state is sweating beard leaving

Beard also got a chance against Schultz and completely gassed and gave up 4 stalling points and lost

He only beat stefanik (a bulked up 174 pounder ) 3-2 the round before

Appreciate the optimism that we are gonna witness history , but spencer has wrestled twice maybe in 12 months and yianni already lost one match and went to OT in another and seems like he’s over the whole college/ folk style thing , I believe that if yianni didn’t have a chance at being a 4xer he wouldn’t have even come back this year combine that with a very hungry and pretty deep weight guess we ll see how it goes ….. fun fact about Dan hodge sometime in the early 80s he ran into a group of recon marines in a bar/ restaurant type place while on vacation , a few of the guys wrestled themselves, so they knew who he was and went and talked to him , shook his hand, but the biggest of the group was a guy about 6’4 270 pounds , he instantly challenged hodge to a wrestling match , hodge laughed it off and said no but the guy persisted and eventually later on hodge agrees but tells the guy he’s not going to hold back , long story short they wrestled for about 10 seconds and hodge doubled him so hard the guy chipped his elbow on the ground and broke 2 ribs and instantly gave up , add insult to injury the big guy got disciplined by the marines for what they considered an injury sustained in a bar fight

Honestly 157 is wide open and couldn’t be shocked to see Coleman make a run to the finals , he’s as good as anyone else at the weight , and Ramos is real tough , I think they both break through this season

Agree with the rest of these, if O’Conner gets right health wise I think he wins a 2nd..Bartlett could win or he could lose by 1 in the quarters and then blood round and not AA , he’s been more aggressive lately hopefully that keeps up

Everyone is going to talk about carr and o toole all season and then Griffith is gonna beat them both and win OW at ncaas , his match with otoole last year was razor thin and carr wrestles alot of close low scoring matches with top guys I think that works against him with Griffith

This thread is wild…mostly people complaining that penn state fans aren’t upset enough about brooks losing a dec dual? ..seriously that one poster was having a stroke bc the penn state forums weren’t upset enough about the lose , no honest person compares Hawkeye report with any other teams forum, the PSU forums are just filled with a bunch of homers like every other teams , meanwhile Hawkeye report is like the Alex jones forum for wrestling …all types of conspiracies about anyone good not at Iowa on steroids , or the secret penn state / Cael bank accounts , the forum reads like satire half the time ….y’all are crazy sometimes ….anyway shout to Coleman for beating a multiple time champ , hopefully that boasted his confidence and we see a new Coleman the rest of the season

Ramos made the R12 up a weight last year and Coleman just needs to stay healthy , he has multiple wins over Robb, Lewan, knocked off guys like berge and young in his career…both of these guys could be on podium this year

What’s up with central Michigan? They always had some solid guys, some AA contenders but they seem to have really fallen off , I follow pretty closely and I don’t think I’ve heard of anyone in the back half of the lineup ,

He told Damian Hahn he was staying at SDSU so Hahn kept him on a full ride and didn’t recruit his weight , then gross wrestles one dual leaves the team after and transfers to be with bono at Wisconsin, also gross got the boot from Iowa for going on a car/ house robbing spree …I know people change and grow and what not but there about 2000 college wrestlers I’d call righteous before adding Seth gross to the list

Prata made the blood round last year , Moore made the R12 2 seasons ago , Henson is just a freshman with a lot of AA potential

It means a lot of solid guys believe in the coaching staff and what they are building and want to transfer to OU ..seems like a positive

Bracket also had Daryl Cocozza ( 4x ncaa qualifier for edinboro and Rutgers and he lost first round to 3x ncaa qualifier and multiple time ACC champ Conroy

I’ve posted this bracket before …Caldwell and Gomez wrestled in the Pre Quarters of states …2 ncaa champs hitting first night was wild ….also that 3rd place match was caldwells last non all star meet lose in his career

He won the Princeton open at the start of the season and beat the same kid from Rutgers 6-5 ….Peterson is the real deal and top recruit and probably an AA this year

Star just took 3rd at U23s , dropped an 8-7 tough semi and teched everyone else he wrestled , with a year of just freestyle training I think he could definitely medal, obviously don’t see him getting past JB just yet tho for 79… I understand your point about fix , but he’s never even been close to scoring on RBY in over 15 minutes of wrestling , not to mention in the past 5 years , Joe Colon has medaled at 61 , graff and gross have wrestled for a medal , and fix has a silver ….RBY is arguably better than all 3 of them , he’s beaten fix multiple times , last time him and gross wrestled gross needed a late comeback to win 6-5 when he was a 6th yr senior national champ and rby was a true sophomore and folk was gross better style ..I understand the strategy aspect but fix isn’t beating rby in free on just push outs , then second he starts trying to push into rby he’s going to get countered

Amine is a Olympic medalist and brooks has beaten him multiple times and fix is a world silver and couldn’t score on rby if you gave him a full weekend , both of those guys ( depending on draw like everyone else) could both medal right now , and starocci could compete at 79

Dean is probably wrestling up a weight bc he can’t beat brooks , he’s short for 197 has a a lot of tough match ups for him size wise , so when he has a rough weekend he has less room for error than other returning champs who are wrestling at their ideal weight class , either way he should be good for march , and beard had everything to gain and wrestle for in this match in his home gym and it was still close , hoping we get a rematch on Friday or Saturday night in march
