Sammy Alvarez won the edinboro open this weekend for ok state rumors swirling Lewis Fernandes , heavyweight for Cornell and the a guy I strongly believed would be Cornell’s first AA ever at the weight , seems to have quit the team

Foca and O’Malley are from towns right next to each other ..O’Malley senior year and Focas junior I believe O’Malley beat foca 4 times , dual , county finals , Region and state finals …O’Malley took the only college meeting with a 40 second injury default..interested to see if foca can get over that hump finally , intermat has foca 4 , O malley 5 currently so both could be AAs this year …fun fact #3 guy Mekhi Lewis won a state title over O’Malley and foca in high school

Virginia tech beats nc state Pitt crushed Virginia tech pitt lost to West Virginia transitive property clearly shows West Virginia would be the best team in the ACC -
That Kuhn nato match is exactly what I was thinking when that happened, Kuhn hit a headlock and threw nato into the table and broke the banner and the arena lost it

Education wise I was fine , but that’s more just blessed with genetics memory wise , socially I definitely could have used another year to mature as well …and while wrestling isn’t my main job I do coach a few times a week ..Its not so much the wins and loses , it was the confidence part that took a beating , took 2 full years to get back to where I was confidence wise going into high school and not going to lie I was pretty much depressed for a year straight..wrestling went from my favorite thing in the world to something I didn’t even want to do anymore..I don’t think staying back is for everyone in my opinion , I think it comes down to each individual kid but some it definitely benefit's some -

The main thing holding a kid back in 8th grade does is just make them more ready for high school wrestling , it has pros and cons…I was young for a 9th grader and got my ass beat by a lot of older dudes all year long , had a losing record and almost quit ( I didn’t have close to a losing record any year pre high school, the rest of high school , nor in college ) so that really rocked my confidence and being an adult now I know I would’ve greatly benefited from staying back that year like some of my teammates did , and it would probably have helped 4 later when I get to college as well -
Why would Kennedy be clearly favored? Favored sure but clearly?

Idk if this is considered on the decline this is just last season 125- Suriano 1st - 2x champ ,3 x finalist Glory 2nd last year , 2x AA 133- Chris cannon 7th , 2x AA , heilman R16 , Koehler R16 141-Rivera 3rd ,4x AA, CJ composto AA 165- Shane Griffith 2nd , 2021 ncaa champ , Ramirez R12 174- Mekhi Lewis 2nd, 2019 ncaa champ ,mike O ‘Malley R12 184- Poznanski R12 , past AA 197- Cardnes 2-2 285 - Fernandes R12 How many states have 4 finalists and a 3rd in a down year ?
-
What states have caught up ?
-
How do you figure NJ wrestling is on the decline? Just last season CJ composto AAed as a true freshman after placing in NJ states once (3rd) , last season was the first true down year in terms of AAs but doesn’t mean the state is on the decline
-
Peterson probably more so , he has a really good chance at being a 4x AA
-
I heard he left because glory decided to stay at 125 when the original plan was glory would move up , Peterson was ranked number 1 for awhile he even won at whose #1 over Jordan Titus , missed the back half of the season and states his senior because of injury makes people forget how good he was in hs

A rare exception to actually comment on one of your posts but , they are still solid in the transfer portal , Seabass, Bulsak who AAed, heilman , number 1 recruit dean Peterson whose the 125 , Alvarez himself was a portal guy.. but recruiting has taken a hit , then have basically no one coming in 2023 class , 165 has been a black hole since perrotti graduated in 15/16 , turley AAed at 174 as a freshman but is a complete shell of himself now and still has 2 years of eligibility, 197 is another guy the program has had at 3 different weights and his body is broken down , and they have a Juco heavyweight while wrestling in the big ten, add that to the fact that support is at an all time high , but can’t seem to bring in a resident athlete for more than a few months before they leave , they have no real upper weight coaches for both the college team and RTC and if they don’t beat Maryland it’s a good chance they go 0-8 in the big ten , things have stagnated at RU and they probably do need a change for a spark .. they have a lot of HS guys train at the RTC but don’t seem to be getting those guys to there for college also letting Sebastian Rivera do whatever he wanted after he transferred in rubbed some people the wrong way , claiming he’d make the cut for team 2 straight years then deciding close to the season that he wouldn’t , him going to do team Puerto Rico stuff over Rutgers stuff, some definite issues but that being said they have a #1 recruit at 125 with full eligibility, shawyver is a solid R16/r12 guy so those 2 should be 125/133 the next 2 seasons, Oliveri only a sophomore at 141 should be an AA eventually , White is a freshman at 149 and had a great redshirt year and has a lot of room to grow, 157 has Clark who was an afterthought recruit who has really taken some huge jumps ( beat artalona this year ) and at 184 they have a #1 recruit whose a freshman and an AA with 2 or 3 more years in redshirt , if they can fit all those guys in the lineup together and snag a big guy or 2 in the portal they could be back in the middle of the pack in the big ten by next year but if not then maybe it’s time to hand the keys over to pritzlaff or swing for the fences and throw a ton of money at someone like JB and hope he wants the challenge

You are spot on , there is definitely more to the story, but everywhere I go, here, other forums , twitter it’s just alot of people speaking negatively of Alvarez and I wanted to give a different perspective. What you are saying about him being required to be closer to weight than other guys is most likely true , but I think that’s also one of the things that may have caused an issue between him and staff .. Like I’ve said Alvarez has plenty of faults of his own but I feel his whole situation has been mishandled the past couple seasons and it’s definitely best for a clean break , I just don’t see the need for rutgers fans to throw shade at 21 yr old bc he’s not happy and not thriving where he’s currently at and feels like he needed a change
-
Not disagreeing , I meant how quick the fans turn on and talk negatively about athletes , I know Aragona lost his love for the sport,I don’t blame anyone for him leaving , I still don’t think 40 yr fans should be trashing the kids I’m from NJ and I like Rutgers bc I always root for NJ kids before anything else , I also like goodale , I competed against him in HS , had friends go wrestle for him in college ,then a couple kids I’ve coached went to wrestle for him , I think he’s a great guy and coach.. my point is this Alvarez situation is more than just meets the eye
-
I think the relationship with the coaches have been strained with all the issues with him at 133 the past 2 seasons , but I feel last year was on the coaching staff for even attempting to have him make a weight after he tried and failed the year before , obviously blame falls on Alvarez but Seabass for back to back off seasons said he was going 133 then said screw it and went 141 causing Alvarez to make the cut ,and rumor was Goodale wasn’t going to let anyone challenge Mike van brill at 149 for his last year so Alvarez only option was 133 again or redshirt…I think him leaving was the best for both sides bc Alvarez didn’t seem committed to Rutgers and the coaches really botched some stuff with him the past 2 years and seem to lost his trust , hopefully both find some success apart
-
Right now he would get manhandled but they can put him on the Derek white cowboy bulk job and by next year I think he could be legit , he’s pretty tall and apparently he’s never been a big weight room guy so if they can get him on a solid everyday plan he can make big gains
-
The difference is he didn’t miss weight , they didn’t give him a chance to make it , bc like I said before there has been some issues with the coaching staff
