  1. "the alternate will be inserted into the bracket" Assuming the replacement/alternate is inserted as a #33 Seed and all the others move up a seeding spot ? Will coaches of wrestlers that have bad injuries (McGonagle, Young, etc) wait until weigh-ins to withdraw since they are allowed to ?
  2. A 0:01 Inj Def followed by an mff (like Cardinale) would have resulted in a better NCAA Seed for Gomez. Admire that he tried to compete but he ultimately hurt his NCAA Seed & himself by wrestling.
  3. With all the Inj Def & mff we witnessed n the Qualifiers ........ when is the deadline for a wrestler to withdraw & be replaced by an Alternate ? IIRC, isn't it the Monday (Mar.13) before Tourney starts ? Specifically thinking about Cardinale, McGonagle, C. Young, Thomas, E. Miller, Hall, & others who appeared to mff for reasons other than Seed protection.
  4. The percentage of Programs having an AA will likely decrease going forward. The Transfer Portal allows/encourages high-profile Programs to pluck the best wrestlers from lower profile programs. I count at least 10 AA's last season that transferred in from another Program. Just look at the starting lineups of the best Teams .... To the OP's topic .... its impossible with the current landscape of D1 Wrestling.
  5. Missouri finished 3rd in 2007 (Auburn Hills MI) despite #1 Seed Max Askren going 2 & bbq. I remember Ben Askren & Matt Pell scoring a bunch of Bonus points and recall how terrible the venue/location was. Hoping to see the Tigers make a push for another trophy this year ... 16 years is too long.
  6. I would expect the following At-Larges to be within or near a Top 15 Seed : 125: Cardinale (WV) & Brown (MD) 133: McGonagle (Lehigh) 141: Happel (UNI) 149: Gomez (WI) & Zapf (PENN) 157: Jacques (MIZ) 174: Washington (IU) & Fisher (NW)
  7. I think Shaw & the other At-Large bids @ 197 greatly benefited from the fact that 197 was almost completely chalk. 28 of the 29 tournament NCAA qualifiers had already earned AQ's. Only 1 "steal" with 4 At-Larges to still award.
  8. Jacques was just awarded an At-Large earlier today. He did NOT auto qualify with with 7th place.
  9. The biggest upset of the Finals. Curious to see how this result affects NCAA Seeding.
  10. "True 2nd" match between Eischens & Valencia
  11. So ... NorfLeet is done ? 7-6 record (.538 win pct) & not enough matches for RPI ... even if he gets a CR. Not sure why he wouldn't wrestle the 2 matches he mff ... that would have qualified him for an RPI. To be out since Dec.2, then ... to finally return & not give himself any chance to quallify doesn't make sense unless he re-injured himself today ?
  12. Past several years, they have all done them except ACC, EIWA, & Big 10.
  13. Jacques still has a chance to qualify with a "True 6th" match.
  14. Big 12 had to give an AQ back to the At-Large pool when Caleb Dowling (WV), who had earned an AQ, did not wrestle. Source: Pirate
  15. Only 6 bids @ 157. Jacques just took 7th.
  16. Why is the Big 12 NOT having 9th place matches @ 141 ? All the other weight classes with 7 or more AQ's are wrestling thru 9th place. 141 & 149 (7 AQ's EACH) 165 & 285 (8 AQ's each)
  17. I think a strong case can also be made for Beard (Lehigh) as he has several wins over ranked wrestlers, his 2 losses were quality, and he is blitzing the field @ EIWA. What Seed would Rocky be if he wins today ?
  18. Really looking forward to the 197 Final. Both guys on a roll.
  19. Great effort by Hawks !!
  20. Moore (OU) won by DQ @ 149. Does anyone know what happended ?
  21. It took until bout #93 for Utah Valley to score their first team point.
  22. Lock Haven wins the Team Title (112.5 Pts) in a close race over Central Michigan (110). AQ wrestlers needing an At-Large : 141 : Bell (Rider) & Ervin (SIU) ; bids stolen by Koleno (Clarion) & Mason (Bloomsburg) 149 : Tyus (SIU) & Stonecheck (LHU) ; bids stolen by Higley (GMU) & A.Hagan (Ohio) 157 : Robinson (CSU) ; bid stolen by Eyler (LHU) 174 : McGill (Edinboro) & Messer (GMU) ; bids stolen by Worthing (Clarion) & Stoltzfus (LHU) 184 : Hoose (Buffalo) ; bid stolen by Lehman (Ohio)
  23. Track just changed it to Inj 0:01
