  1. Will there be another vision quest a la DeSanto who took out Lee in his only high school loss in the final at States? Will there be another Larry Owings, who took out Dan Gable to give him his only college loss in the NCAA finals? Will there be another Rulon Gardner who took out Aleksandr Karelin (one of the greatest wrestlers ever, who had a 13 year winning streak) in the Olympic finals to end the Russian's career? Will there be another Mario Lopez (aka A.C. Slater) in "Saved by the Bell" who .... (what the hell did he do anyway)?
  2. One possible approach to beating Lee for a top 5 or 10 wrestler. 1. Slow down and stall (if necessary) for the first period. Better to give up stall points (e.g., play the edge) than takedowns or turns. 2. Give up no more than 6 points to Lee in the first (or 8 tops). Coaches and fans should push for arm bars to be ruled as potentially dangerous 3. Choose top in the second. 4. Ride Lee very hard. Tire him as much as you can. 5. Keep him from scoring a TD if he escapes. Stall if necessary. 6. Take Lee to the 3rd period. 7. Wrestle your butt off. Get a TD or two as Lee tires. Yes, it's possible. 8. Go for a cradle or another big move (cow catcher; Turk). Try to win on points or a pin or even going to OT (Has Lee ever been in an OT match?) Easier said than done. It helps if you have some length, a good gas tank, and some flexibility to avoid arm bars.
  3. Minnesota snatches defeat from the jaws of victory at 133.
  4. It's okay. I can last longer than 3 minutes
  5. I don't see this version of Lee taking out Gilman, who has good positioning and defense. And Gilman won't have to go under Lee in freestyle
  6. Spencer Lee is ... almost the Musukaev (sp?) of folk style wrestling. He has everything in the first period and next to nothing in the 2nd and 3rd periods. I think he is actually vulnerable if you keep it to 6 point or under in the first.
  7. 125 - #1 Spencer Lee vs #6 Patrick McKee 133 - #17 Brody Teske // Cullan Schriever vs #15 Aaron Nagao // Jake Gilva 141 - #2 Real Woods vs #15 Jake Bergeland 149 - #6 Max Murin vs #15 Michael Blockhus 157 - #15 Cobe Siebrecht vs #17 Brayton Lee // Sebas Swiggum 165 - #13 Patrick Kennedy vs #28 Andrew Sparks // Cael Carlson 174 - #15 Nelson Brands vs #11 Bailee O’Reilly // Jared Krattiger 184 - TBA vs #10 Isaiah Salazar 197 - #7 Jacob Warner vs #28 Michael Foy 285 - #3 Tony Cassioppi vs #32 Garrett Joles
  8. Penn State is more on their offense than last week. Every guy but 125 has gotten at least one TD
  9. Yes, looks stronger than DT as a freshman but not yet as slick. DT had (has) such developed technique and smooth chain wrestling. He was dominant on top even as a freshman. But Haines looks great.
  10. Haines' father wrestled for Lock Haven and I think his uncle is Thomas Haines, who was recruited to Penn State before Nevills was recruited over him
  11. He used to drive to DT's M2 practice sessions from quite a distance, I think, while in high school. Taylor has always been big on Haines
  12. Haines is a beast! He is getting better and better as a true freshman. Always looking for points. I see him becoming a bonus point machine as he progresses.
  13. Should have gone with Vespa. The cat (RBY) played with the mouse (Mendez) and was close to the major
  14. Not sure. But apparently, Vespa was a big high school cradler. Might be worth a go given that Steen is a very long shot to make NCAAs.

  16. Nice interview with Levi Haines, who seems quite mature for a first year wrestler ... if you might be looking for a slight distraction from this thread: https://gopsusports.com/podcasts/levi-haines-wrestling-episode-10/155
  17. What are the backgrounds (e.g., ethnicities) of Bartlett and Facundo? Just curious
  18. Yes, Nolf is being more strategic about this shots and improving his positioning and defense. That's necessary against top guys whom he can't just overwhelm with offense
