D-1 Week in Preview, January 29-February 4

Davis vs Mccrone: I think davis should win this rather easily mccrone is sorta funky and could pose issues on top but after davis got away from deagustino i doubt mccrone does anything more than potentially get a leg in and some riding time while davis works out of it nagao vs bouzakis: nagaos speed to the leg and nics seeming inability to keep guys off his legs seems like a recipe for a lot of takedowns. I think i would actually caution nagao from throwing legs as nic seems to have a very good feel from bottom and shift his weight really well + hes incredibly explosive. Aside from nic catching something I could see nagao pushing for bonus here especially if he takes him down and flattens him out. match of the dual: I could see this match going one of two ways. Jesse really picking his spots and having limited output and it coming down to beaus scrambling and leg defense as to who gets the takedown. Or jesse shooting himself out of the match. I dont really see a world where Jesse wins this by more than one score I believe alirez is the only person to do that both in folk and free since beaus decent, its a toss-up in my book. 149: personally, I think dylan has had a very good year Austin is just that dude. I favor Dylan in the match, but it feels like a blood round type of match it should show if kasak is ready to push for the podium. 157: could see haines push for the major expecting something like 5-2 maybe 8-2 wilcox is pretty tough 165: I really rate hepner hes scrambly and good on top. I think he keeps it to a decision but if mitchell gets on his offense early Hepner is almost certainly going to fade late so it could get ugly in that instance =. 174: welsh handfights like hes a 5th year and holds position very well, Carter is Carter. I think it takes a bit for carter to find his first takedown but then he puts on a tough ride and breaks welsh and it snowballs from there. 184: I have no idea bernie hasnt looked great since the all star to me and idk who osu is wrestling 197: geog is pretty tough that said aaron ends it early third or before the third. 285: I dont know that there is a worse matchup for feldman i think dan could snag his ankle without bending and he also has like 40lbs on him. -
My favorite scenes from the film were after Yianni lost match two showing everyone's mixed emotions as well as Yianni in the tunnel I thought that was a pretty powerful shot. As well as just how much Grey and Frank care for those guys. Im sure most every coach is like that, but it just was very prevalent in the film with how they would speak to Vito before and during his matches.

not taking anything away from him because hes very strong but he lifts especially when hes dumbbell pressed from what ive seen look like they are loading his joints a lot and are also not controlled and in a short range of motion. So I wonder if doing that over the years has hindered his rom and speed. I know boxers will train explosive reps but thats usually over a full range and with nowhere even remotely close to a max load.

is Kaleb Larkin taking a redshirt this year?
Truzzcat replied to Bardamu911's topic in College Wrestling
I think Kaleb may be focusing on trials. I personally do not think hes a factor but coming off of his BF win im guessing hes putting his focus towards that I would imagine the cut to 143 point whatever is brutal for him his a long dude. -
Does Trumble have a shot of being our 97kg rep

What brought me to make the thread is he just took third at the zegreb open losing to amirezza azirpeli (I likely butchered that) 8-7 amirezza then went on to beat Snyder in the finals 6-3 ive not seen the matches so it could've been some flukey stuff or just a matchup thing I just found it interesting @mspart -
for his mma career its mildly concerning because ive seen him training his striking since he left okie state and there has been seemingly no progression

Ben said on FRL that once mocco graduates keegan will move up to 174. I dont know if thats just his assumption or if they have talked about it. I would assume he will try and enter the 4x champ category especially since its still only his 5th year since he did not redshirt.

hmm I was quite young for both of them but at least for me personally I remember watching kyle beat david at WTT and that setting up there all star match and from there it was like the talk of the season I dont recall dean vs Nickal having quite the same hype that could have been because dean took losses and nickal lost to myles at that big 10 I believe but I was not present enough on socials to know how hyped up that was.
-
they absolutely should but they won't
-
that would be far and away the biggest match since dake vs taylor and with the prevalence of social media now likely bigger.
-
free to watch highly recommend

I think if they hit at the trials and Keegan were to beat him that may fuel the fire but I personally don't think collegiate wrestling has anything left to offer him although NIL can change that a bit.

I absolutely do not disagree it was just a result I did not see discussed at all and found it interesting so wanted to see peoples thoughts. -
I know wrestling math does not always work but coming off a dominant u23 world title and taking third at the zegreb only losing to Azarpira 8-7 who went on to beat snyder 6-3 do we give trumble a chance here. He took off this collegiate season to focus specifically on freestyle as well as i think to grow he wrestled 285 at midlands and looked considerably bigger.

aside from the scramble with vito where he got 3 and 3 I was super impressed with moores movement he looks really sharp right now. Nobody is catching PSU but im a sucker for convincing myself of a team race to make things more interesting so ill be rooting for all the mizzou guys because i think they have the highest chance of putting up a big score.
-
his two wins over kade Moore have aged very well he is looking really good. Definitely could see well pushing for the blood round.

Willie did a write up predicting 1 seeds and this is pretty much what he said as well

Shane lost to a true freshman and was competitive with another true freshman and a backup 157lber hes not that guy anymore and mehki has long since been the guy that was a b2b finalist and national champ imo. the weight itself only has 4 AA's. The hall match is somewhat of a concern but hes always wrestled Keegan well and is having a great year Julian took the lead on Keegan but ended up getting blown out. Im not trying to take away from Carter hes outstanding and has definitely distanced himself from everyone but foca and plott moving up to 184 whitlake and kharchla getting hurt brands suspension and labs graduating definitely thinned this weight out a ton from last year.

id go 133 (vito at his best is the best guy in the world and I think daton poses a very tricky stylistic matchup for crookham) 157 (Meyer has been my pick all year and after the mauller match I am feeling better about it wrting cklv off to the concussion although a tournament setting still scares me for him) 149 (I personally think henson and gomez are as good if not better than ridge) 165 (I think keegan may be the best wrestler in college right now besides brooks but this weight is absolutely insane) 141 (real is great but he leaves it within the margins sometimes could see someone like beau or mendez beating him or even a guy like happle when hes hot) 197 (Trent is wrestling absolutely unreal dont give him a high probability but a chance against brooks) 184 (keck beat plott in a tight but fairly convincing fashion and I think hes the second-best guy aside from potentially foca 285 (yonger and wyatt can make it interesting if healthy) 174 (weakest weight in the country + t3 p4p guy imo)
-
im still very interested to see if carter can make 163 and if he can how he performs at that weight especially in a multi weigh in setting.
-
id be fine with mitchell being high end tier 3 or moving hamiti, ramirez, olejnik up to tier 2 with him but I dont think you can put MM on tier island for albeit destroying a seemingly not in form amine and fish when ramirez has beaten carr and quincy twice last year and hamiti has bonused 3 guys in the same tier as him (ramirez, fish, hall)
