  1. Lower property taxes = my kinda place. Let the gubmint finance its voraciousness some other way:
  2. First of all, how many alleged sexual assaults were merely the result of misunderstandings between members of the opposite genders regarding what's appropriate conduct? When folks get in trouble for driving improperly on the road, they are often given the opportunity to take courses and rehabilitate their records, correct? Would you prefer that folks lose their abilities to drive and register publicly as driving offenders for decades to come? Are you willing to pay for their survival or would you have them (as consequently unemployed or at least underemployed) people live off of the taxpayers? Can they afford it? Meanwhile, how many people engage in amorously heated activity thinking things are fine only to have one participant change minds sometime thereafter, redefining what happened and even making allegations of impropriety? Isn't it true that Armie Hammer's accuser dated him for years after the alleged rape occurred, but then turned around and pressed charges for the supposed rape? https://www.nbcnews.com/news/us-news/actor-armie-hammer-wont-face-sexual-assault-charge-rcna87166
  3. I gather that part of the fraud allegations against (former wrestler) Donald Trump pertain to allegedly inflated property values that he and his family claim when bargaining (at arms' length) with creditors for more favorable mortgage (and other) interest rates. He has mentioned that such creditors have their own lawyers and are invited to seek their own property valuations. That doesn't seem fraudulent to me. But I am concerned with allegations that former President Trump inflated the actual size of properties. I sense that the size inflation has been substantial. Is this accurate? I am unaware of any alibi for doing that. But admittedly the lenders are invited to seek their own independent assessments & valuations. Sometimes sizes get inflated accidentally, too. Or there could be a survey dispute. I sincerely do not know. As for Hunter Biden, I sense that the outrage has been about double-standards. For the longest time, Donald Trump was being attacked by the same mob that was not demanding the same of Hunter Biden even though the latter was costing taxpayers whereas Donald Trump apparently was not. Donald Trump's own mob was not pleased with this. By the way, I use the term "mob" affectionately. I'm always delighted to see folks get politically engaged and active, wanting to know more. It's the kind of educated populace that Thomas Jefferson dreamed about when founding U.Va. (prior to dying in insolvency as a result).
  4. Thanks for the info. about Andrew Long. What a shame that he got a DUI after all he's already been through. May A.J. not endure a similar fate in the future.
  5. I do not believe that A.J. deserves to be ostracized from the wrestling community under the circumstances. I hope he gets on with his life productively and happily. Perhaps becoming an outcast contributed to the downfall of Andrew Long ? Is this article about the Andrew Long who wrestled for Iowa State and such? The article says he's now deceased, leaving behind questions as to how it happened. https://www.myjournalcourier.com/news/article/Five-years-gone-Family-seeks-answers-about-17564520.php The author's got Iowa State ties and the body's apparently buried in Illinois.
  6. Not even if he can be rehabilitated and / or significantly help make the NCAA D1 team title chase more interesting, like it was a long time ago? A rising tide lifts various boats involved. Penn State could benefit if the title chase becomes suspenseful enough to attract more viewers & sponsors (etc.)
  7. The fraud determination's appealable, correct? Summary judgments tend to be, and I think I read that that's how the fraud determination was made. As for his ongoing fraud, folks need not do business with the Trump family if they don't trust them. There's no shortage of publicity regarding the allegations. Nor is there a shortage of folks who hate what Trump did to the composition of the U.S. Supreme Court. They want to take him down however they can. Remember all the accusations against Justice Kavenaugh when he was up for membership on the U.S. Supreme Court? After a while, he was accused of gang raping women every weekend, or something to that effect. Nobody believed the eventual allegations but that didn't stop 'em.
  8. My post said the following, did it not? >That said, I'm not saying that his accuser lied, either. < As for attention, plenty of women want attention from a select few but not the barbarian hordes. Your rebuttal is therefore not necessarily successful. Hopefully A. J. will not be harassed with the accuser's allegations for his college wrestling career (or beyond). I've provided various reasons why he shouldn't be, within this thread. Hopefully others who read this thread will learn to avoid situations that can lead to false accusations, too. Uh oh...Andrew Long just came to mind. I think I'll log off for a while rather than go into that subject.
  9. Perhaps the purported victim is simply trying to save face after realizing her allegations were self-contradictory and likely to get her branded for life as a false accuser? Who wants to be like the female U.Va. student in the Rolling Stone-related fraud to which Ann Coulter referred in a prior post within this thread? That gal was shown to have made stuff up and even a female dean (or administrator?) at U.Va. subsequently recovered damages from U.Va. for having been called lethargic, or something to that effect. I have no ties to the Ferrari family, by the way. But I think that "he said / she said" clashes that have often been found to be motivated by a thirst for attention, revenge, or compensation should be very rigorously scrutinized before someone's consequently turned into a long term jailbird (or even a short term one) for them. Hopefully A.J. Ferrari won't mix up with the wrong people in the future and get accused again. That said, I'm not saying that his accuser lied, either. But the reasonable doubt burden of proof isn't easy for prosecutors to surmount. Nor should it be, should it?
  10. Perhaps in NY, a judge can order a temporary or permanent injunction like judges can in some other states. Does an injunction include a cancelation of one's business permit, though? Well... restraining orders can be used to keep one spouse from seeing the other, and / or their kids. Family court's a type of "civil" court, too (unless it's considered administrative, which I tend to doubt, but each state's different). Nevertheless, I'm now aware that a family court judge can order a divorce before the divorce trial even gets underway. Defamation also comes to mind, and that's often pursued in civil court (though I've seen it pursued as a criminal matter, at least overseas). One can restrain a defendant's ongoing free speech regarding the allegedly defamatory material, I would think. Admittedly there are 1st Amendment considerations that make the analogy to Trump's licenses less than ideal though. You've raised interesting points. Far be it from me to deny that some have pursued (former wrestler) Donald Trump's demise very zealously. And we wonder why more folks don't run for public office?
  11. Prosecutors get nervous when a potential juror expresses distrust and disapproval of the police. But like you mentioned, other prospective jurors raised concerns (regarding themselves) that were also noteworthy. Perhaps in comparison, you seemed more tough & determined to stick with your instincts rather than kiss up to the prosecution.
  12. Meanwhile, for news on That 70s Show star Dan Masterson's pending appeal: https://www.cinemablend.com/television/danny-masterson-lawyer-explains-why-shes-confident-conviction-will-be-overturned
  13. The prosecution can continue to prosecute, but if it feels it can't get a conviction beyond a reasonable doubt, it has reason to let go and move on to the next cases. Sometimes prosecutions happen anyway though. Prosecutor Nifong campaigned on the Duke lacrosse rape prosecution endeavor for re-election, but it seems to have backfired on him after he got re-elected. I've not read up on it in nearly a decade.
  14. I didn't read the list of charges. Assuming you're correct, I appreciate it. I gathered that his accuser testified extremely briefly and then ran out of the court room, never to return. What other admissible evidence was there, anybody know? The above-linked Wikipedia article refers to a reprimand from the legislature. That's arguably excessively prejudicial and confusing to the jury, therefore inadmissible (one would think).
  15. Anyone here from Idaho? This (former) state rep. and Afghanistan war veteran, Aaron von Ehlinger, was found guilty on the charge of rape yet acquitted on the charge of forcible penetration. Might that be logically inconsistent? At any rate, he's now serving 20 years in prison, with a possibility of parole after 8: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Aaron_von_Ehlinger
  16. Women get falsely accused of raping kids all the time, too, especially teachers, coaches, babysitters and even neighbors. More kids should learn to wrestle. More women should wrestle, as well. It's harder to rape a female wrestler, I bet. Meanwhile, it's a fact that taxpayers can't keep devoting so many resources to incarcerating people who have such high odds of being innocent. In no way am I condoning rape. I do admire how Ann Coulter researches her articles in a lawyerly way, though, and stands up against conformist mobs with regularity.
  17. Unfortunately our legal system gives folks alternatives that result all too often in "no contest" (or even guilty) pleas by innocent folks. Would you plead guilty and accept an 8 year sentence instead of potentially getting convicted and serving an 80 year one? Fortunately the Duke lacrosse players took their chances, lawyered up and proved their innocence. The stripper who accused them was found to have jizz in her undies from how many different dudes that day? Ugh... Nevertheless, the lacrosse season had been canceled that year.
  18. Did A.J.'s accuser demand money of him and then say she didn't want to testify in criminal proceedings? Or was the case dismissed due to insufficient evidence? For perspective, might this article from Ann Coulter be worth a read? https://anncoulter.com/2014/12/17/one-in-five-people-who-write-for-rolling-stone-are-morons/ EXCERPT: "We are truly in the middle of a rape epidemic: an epidemic of women falsely claiming to have been raped. It’s said that “women never lie about rape!” But the evidence shows that women lie about rape all the time -– for attention, for revenge and for an alibi. All serious studies of the matter suggest that at least 40 percent of rape claims are false. The U.S. Air Force, for example, examined more than a thousand rape allegations on military bases over the course of four years and concluded that 46 percent were false. In 27 percent of the cases, the accuser recanted. A large study of rape allegations over nine years in a small Midwestern city, by Eugene J. Kanin of Purdue University, found that 41 percent of the rape claims were false."
  19. Years ago, the U.S. national debt hadn't yet sextupled like it did from 2000 to 2023. Oregon has access to the Pacific Ocean. That could benefit Idaho, especially if it seeks to become a new nation (like a growing percentage of folks living in relatively nearby Alberta, Canada reportedly does). As for California, if it was a country, it'd have one of the world's Top 5 (or so) gross domestic products (GDPs). They're not eager out there to keep supporting Washington D.C. with all the taxation that's demanded of them. That's increasingly a theme elsewhere, too...
  20. Might it be worth launching a Cornhusker wrestling fans' page here within Intermat's forums, too? https://intermatwrestle.com/forums/forum/clubs/
  21. Meanwhile, New Hampshire has a growing share of seceders: https://nhexit.us/ Would you tolerate their seceding, too? How about part of Northern California? https://www.yescalifornia.org/ Greater Idaho? https://www.greateridaho.org/ Seceding's not just a southern phenomenon, as you presumably already know... What's reported at http://www.USDebtClock.org is increasingly burdensome regardless of one's region...
