CHAMPAIGN, Ill. -- After over two months of being out of action due to injury, two-time defending national champion Jesse Delgado will be back in the lineup for the Illinois wrestling team. Delgado, who was injured at the Illini Quad on Nov. 9, will be back on the mat Friday, Jan. 30 when Illinois hosts Maryland. Jesse Delgado"I am ready to go," said Delgado. "I've been wrestling since I was a young kid and it's something I like to do, so I am excited to get back out there." Prior to suffering the injury, Delgado won each of his first two matches this season. He pinned Kenny Baldridge of SIU-Edwardsville in 6:35, and followed that up with a 22-5 technical fall win over Rider's J.R. Wert. "He has looked really good in practice," stated head coach Jim Heffernan. "He and Jeremy Hunter have been working hard on improving his strength and technique, while maintaining his conditioning. He looks sharp and we are excited to get him back in the lineup." The Illini take on the Terrapins on Friday at 7 p.m. in Huff Hall.

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. -- The ballroom at the Antlers Hilton was packed with enthusiastic wrestling fans. And they had plenty to cheer about. The U.S. team put on an entertaining and action-packed display in rolling past a strong international team 9-2 at the Jack Pinto Cup on Sunday afternoon. The American Greco-Roman squad battled a combined team with wrestlers from Kazakhstan, Bulgaria, Japan and Argentina. The dual was contested on an elevated, spotlighted platform. "The staff did a great job coordinating this event. It was first-class," U.S. National Coach Matt Lindland said. "All the wrestling people in Colorado Springs came out to support this. We had a great attendance. Our guys came out and had a fantastic performance. I don’t know what it was. They were on fire out there. We started a little slow, lost a couple, then we didn’t lose a single match after that." AMES, Iowa -- No. 7 Oklahoma State (6-3, 2-0 Big 12) held on to defeat No. 8 Iowa State (6-2, 0-1 Big 12), 20-15, in dual meet wrestling action Sunday afternoon in Hilton Coliseum. The dual went down to the final match, as the Cowboys were able to get the victory at 285 after Kyven Gadson sparked the Cyclone fans with a fall at 197 pounds. Iowa State almost got the upset at 125 pounds. Kyle Larson jumped out to a 6-1 lead over No. 10 Eddie Kilmara behind a takedown and 2-point near-fall late in the first period. However, Kilmara rallied with a pair of takedowns in the third period and used 1:55 of riding time to secure the 8-7 win for the Cowboys. At 133 pounds, ISU’s Earl Hall, ranked sixth nationally, beat Gary Wayne Harding, 9-5. Hall was up 7-1 after a takedown and 3-point near-fall at the midway point of the first period. Hall held on to knot the match at 3-3. ISU bounced back after a loss at 141 pounds with a 7-2 victory by No. 13 Gabe Moreno at 149 pounds. Moreno had two takedowns in the match vs. Davey Dolan, including the clincher with 1:23 left in the third period en route to his 20th win of the season. OSU held a 10-6 lead at the midway point after OSU’s Anthony Collica beat Luke Goettl, 8-2 in the 157-pound match. At 165 pounds, it was a matchup between top-four wrestlers in OSU’s No. 1 Alex Dieringer and ISU’s fourth-ranked Michael Moreno. Dieringer stayed perfect on the season (19-0) with a 13-3 major decision over Moreno. The Cowboys then added to their lead (17-6) with a victory at 174 pounds, as Kyle Crutchmer defeated Tanner Weatherman, 7-4. Lelund Weatherspoon kept the Cyclones in the match with a victory over Nolan Boyd at 184 pounds, 5-1. Weatherspoon was the aggressor, scoring the only two takedowns in the match. Kyven Gadson then ignited the Cyclone crowd with a huge pin in the 197-pound match. Gadson threw Luke Bean on underhooks to put him on his back. He kept him there to get the fall at the 3:50 mark. Gadson, ranked third nationally, improved his season record to 18-1 and notched his 38th-straight dual victory. The Cowboys sealed the match with a down-to-the-wire 4-3 victory in the finale. OSU’s Austin Marsden, ranked fifth nationally, scored a takedown on Quean Smith in the first period to take an early lead. Smith then notched a takedown in the second period to close the gap. BETHLEHEM, Pa. -- Heading into halftime, it appeared Lehigh would take a 9-6 advantage over Cornell in Sunday afternoon's dual match. Instead, sophomore Brian Realbuto showed he is back to form and reversed the score, figuratively and literally. The Big Red would go on to win a pair of overtime victories over ranked wrestlers after the break and go on for a 21-9 triumph over the Mountain Hawks. After giving up a four-point move in the opening seconds of his matchup with 16th-ranked Mitch Minotti, seventh-ranked Realbuto chipped away, chipped away until he was able to use a five-point move in the closing seconds for an 11-8 comeback win at 157 pounds, silencing the Lehigh home crowd. Top-ranked Gabe Dean later won his second match fo the weekend against a top five wrestler in sudden victory with a takedown and Jace Bennett earned his second win over a grappler ranked in the top 11 in eight days at 197 in the rideout sessions. Despite the lopsided final, the match was anything but dull. Three matches were decided in overtime, another three by three points or less. Even heavily favored wrestlers from 125 to 149 couldn't gain bonus points in the spirited dual. With the win, Cornell improved to 10-1, while the Mountain Hawks fell to 10-4. It was Cornell's fourth straight against the Mountain Hawks and its 39th straight against EIWA competitors. STANFORD, Calif. -- Winning six of the 10 bouts, the Stanford wrestling team defeated Arizona State, 18-13, Sunday, at Maples Pavilion in Stanford, Calif. The Cardinal improved to 8-2 overall and 3-1 in the Pac-12, while the Sun Devils dropped to 7-6 overall and 2-2 in the conference. Arizona State jumped out to a 7-0 lead in the dual as sixth-ranked Blake Stauffer posted a 10-1 major decision over redshirt sophomore Ryan Davies at 184 pounds and Josh DaSilveira edged redshirt freshman Garet Krohn, 7-6, at 197 pounds. Stanford heavyweight Nathan Butler put the Cardinal on the scoreboard with a 3-2 decision over Chace Eskam. The redshirt freshman improves to 25-6 overall, leading the team in wins, and 8-1 in duals this season. Redshirt junior Evan Silver, ranked 15th nationally, cut the ASU lead to one with a 5-2 decision over Ares Carpio at 125 pounds. Leading 3-1 heading into the third period, Silver secured two near fall points before Carpio could escape to seal the victory. He improves to 12-5 overall and to 4-2 in duals. Redshirt freshman Connor Schram gave Stanford a 9-7 lead in the dual with a 9-4 decision over Judson Preskitt at 133 pounds. He registered a quick takedown to open the bout and then took a 5-0 lead with three near fall points. He added another takedown, an escape and 2:18 of riding time in the win. He moves to 9-1 in his rookie season. The Sun Devils pulled within two in the team score after 10th-ranked Christian Pagdilao registered a 9-5 decision over redshirt senior Garrett Schaner at 149 pounds. He drops to 15-12 on the season. Redshirt sophomore Maxwell Hvolbek increased the Cardinal lead to 15-10 with a 3-1 sudden victory decision over Oliver Pierce at 157 pounds. Hvolbek is now 17-11 on the year. Redshirt sophomore Jim Wilson secured the win for Stanford with an 8-1 decision over Jacen Petersen at 165 pounds. Leading 7-0 with over five minutes of riding time in the third period, Wilson was called for locking his hands, giving Peterson a point. Wilson, ranked 14th in the nation, is now 24-4 overall and 8-1 in duals this season. ASU’s Ray Waters won the final bout of the day with a 5-3 decision over the Cardinal’s Keaton Subjeck at 174 pounds. A late scramble by Subjeck momentarily tied the match, but an escape by Waters and 1:07 of riding time gave him the win. No. 1 Minnesota won five of its first seven matches on Sunday against No. 6 Penn State, including major decisions by No. 4 Nick Dardanes (141) and No. 1 Dylan Ness (157), to build up just enough points to hold off the hard-charging Nittany Lions, 17-16, in State College, Pa. With the victory, the Gophers improve to 10-0 this season, including 6-0 in Big Ten competition. The loss, Penn State’s first at home since January 2011, drops the Lions to 8-2 (4-2) this season. Minnesota’s victory sets up a battle of unbeatens this Friday at Williams Arena, when the Gophers will host No. 2 Iowa, who also is 10-0 on the year. With Sunday’s win, Minnesota extends its unbeaten streak against Penn State to 13 matches, a run that stretches back to February 1998 and is tied for the second-longest unbeaten streak the Gophers actively hold over any Big Ten foe. The nation’s top-ranked team has now won 29 of its last 30 duals, including its last 17. In his first match since an odds-defying, third-period comeback a week ago, No. 1 Chris Dardanes opened Sunday’s dual at 133 against No. 9 Jimmy Gulibon. Tied at one in the match’s final 30 seconds, Dardanes scored a late takedown to defeat Gulibon 3-1, running his season record to 17-0 and earning a team-best seventh victory over a ranked opponent. Nick Dardanes followed at 141 with a 14-6 major decision over Kade Moss. Dardanes secured two takedowns in each period of the match, ultimately sealing the major decision by adding a point for riding time, a result which provided the Gophers with a needed bonus point in the dual. Following Penn State’s first win of the day after a late takedown-near fall combination broke open a 4-4 tie between No. 18 Zack Beitz and Jake Short at 149 and gave Beitz a 9-4 victory, Ness took on Cody Law. Following Dardanes’ lead, Ness notched a bonus point for the Gophers by earning a 9-1 major decision over Law. Like Dardanes, the deciding point to taking the major decision was scored on riding time. The win improved Ness’ record this season to 22-0. Prior to the intermission, No. 17 Nick Wanzek looked strong against Garett Hammond, controlling the pace and winning an 8-4 decision. The win snapped a three-match losing streak in dual completion for Wanzek and stretched the Gopher lead to 14-3 at the dual’s midway point. In the eighth installment of their rivalry, No. 3 Logan Storley and No. 4 Matt Brown started the action following the break, with Brown edging Storley 4-1 to improve to 5-3 all-time in the series. At 184, No. 11 Brett Pfarr took control of his match in the second and third periods, and began looking for a major decision late over No. 16 Matt McCutcheon, cutting him loose after finishing several takedowns but ultimately settling for an 11-5 decision. Pfarr’s victory would be the last for a Minnesota grappler on the day as the Nittany Lions mounted a comeback. Trailing 17-6, Penn State won the dual’s final three matches, first with an upset at 197 where No. 6 Morgan McIntosh defeated No. 1 Scott Schiller, 7-4, then with a narrow victory at 285 where No. 6 Jimmy Lawson held off No. 13 Michael Kroells, 3-1. With his team leading by five, true freshman Ethan Lizak removed his redshirt and made his collegiate dual debut for the Gophers in his home state against No. 8 Jordan Conaway. Though Lizak dropped a major decision, 13-3, by avoiding a tech fall or a pin, he successfully clinched the victory for Minnesota. Following their successful trip to Happy Valley, the Gophers return to the Twin Cities for their final home dual of the season this Friday, when top-ranked Minnesota hosts archrival and fellow unbeaten, No. 2 Iowa, at 6 p.m. CT at Williams Arena. NORFOLK, Va. -- The 18th-ranked Old Dominion Monarchs picked up their second-straight Mid-American Conference win by taking down No. 21 Kent State, 25-10, on Sunday afternoon at the Ted Constant Center. The Monarchs are now 9-3 in dual action on the season, with their three losses coming to top-25 opponents. "We are proud of how our guys competed hard for seven minutes today against Kent State," said Head Coach Steve Martin. "We knew coming in it was going to be a scrap. I give KSU credit, as they always get up for our match. The matches against Buffalo and KSU were both hard fought and what I was impressed with was the amount of bonus points we put up this weekend and the little things, like Michael Hayes taking Mack McQuire down to the wire to how hard we fought. We are getting better each week and we look forward to the Ohio dual on Friday!" Kent State jumped out to an early 4-0 lead, as No. 2 Ian Miller recorded a 19-5 major decision over Devin Geoghegan at the 157-pound weight class. Old Dominion took control of the match, winning the next four bouts. No. 14 Tristan Warner once again recorded a win at 165 pounds, defeating Tyler Buckwalter by an 8-1 decision. Lincoln, Neb. -- No. 13 Nebraska (7-1, 4-1 Big Ten) held a 10-6 lead after four matches before winning five in a row on its way to a 26-9 triumph over No. 21 Rutgers at the Devaney Center on Sunday afternoon. Sophomore Tim Lambert opened the dual with a 12-1 major decision over Sean McCabe at 125 pounds before Eric Montoya (133) and 10th-ranked Anthony Abidin each knocked off ranked opponents. Montoya trailed No. 17 Scott DelVecchio, 4-1, in the second period before a pair of takedowns gave him a 7-4 win. Abidin also came from behind in his 5-2 win over No. 7 Anthony Ashnault at 141 pounds. At 149 pounds, Justin Arthur was pinned by 17th-ranked Ken Theobold, but the Huskers outscored the Scarlet Knights 16-0 over the next five bouts. ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- The No. 16-ranked University of Michigan wrestling team took eight of 10 matches, earning bonus points in five, to claim a dominant 34-6 win against Indiana on Sunday afternoon (Jan. 25) at the Hoosiers' University Gymnasium. Among the individual victories, the Wolverines posted a pin, a technical fall and two major decisions to improve to claim their second straight Big Ten Conference dual win. The Wolverines never trailed in the dual, winning the first five bouts, including a forfeit at the opening weight for junior/sophomore Conor Youtsey's second six-point victory of the weekend at 125 pounds. The Wolverines poured on points en route to consecutive major decisions from sophomore/freshman George Fisher and freshman Alec Pantaleo at 141 and 149 pounds, respectively. Massa was in deep on a leg in the first period, but Walsh scrambled to secure a takedown and put the Wolverine on his back for two points. He also added a reversal in the waning moments of the third. CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. -- The No. 14 Virginia wrestling team used bonus points at 133 and 165 pounds to slip past No. 10 Pittsburgh, 17-16, Sunday afternoon in front of a full house at Memorial Gymnasium. The Cavaliers (10-3, 2-0 ACC) handed Pitt (7-4, 2-1 ACC) its first-ever ACC dual loss while stretching their Memorial Gymnasium win streak to 32 duals. Virginia has not lost a home dual at Mem Gym since Jan. 16, 2011, against Penn. Nick Herrmann (Jr., Amarillo, Texas), George DiCamillo (R-So., Highland Heights, Ohio), Andrew Atkinson (R-Fr., Lynchburg, Va.), Nick Sulzer (R-Sr., Cleveland, Ohio) and Zach Nye (R-Jr., Enola, Pa.) each scored wins for the Cavaliers. Both teams won five bouts. "It certainly was not the way we drew it up - that was about as crazy as a dual meet gets," Virginia head coach Steve Garland said. "We knew it was going to be a fight because they are such a tough, hard-nosed group of guys. For the last 364 days, we have been training for that type of match. They embarrassed us last year and it stuck with us. I don't think we wrestled well, but I'm happy that our guys were able to fight through and grit out grimy, crazy, awesome wins like that. At the end of the day, in the blood round at nationals, those wins are what they look like. I'm proud of the fight. The heart and togetherness right now is where we need to be." The Cavaliers did not trail in the dual after jumping out to a 7-0 lead after two weights. At 125, Herrmann (11-5) trailed 5-3 early in the third period before reversing Dom Forys and then tilting him to get three back points and bring the crowd to its feet. He maintained the advantage the rest of the period, picking up the riding-time point for the 9-5 win. Ranked 13th nationally at 133, DiCamillo (21-6) dominated from start to finish in a 22-10 major decision over Ben Ress. He pounced quickly in the first period with a takedown and then three back points as he narrowly missed a pin. He went on to pile up takedowns and 2:14 of riding time to get UVa a bonus point. Pitt earned its first win at 141 as Nick Zanetta won 5-4 over Justin Van Hoose (Jr., Kirksville, Mo.). Zanetta finished with 1:15 in riding time to earn the bonus point and break the 4-4 deadlock at the end of the third period. The Panthers pulled within 7-6 when No. 20 Mikey Racciato downed TJ Miller (R-Fr., Medford, N.J.), 10-4, at 149. A battered Miller fended off Racciato's late push in the third period for another takedown, which would have given him the major decision and a team bonus point. Virginia got a key win at 157 when Atkinson (14-9) took down Ronnie Garbinsky in sudden-victory time for a 5-3 win. The hotly-contested bout almost did not go to overtime as Garbinsky was awarded a takedown just before the final buzzer of the third period. Garland challenged the call and after the official looked at the video replay, it was overturned as Garbinsky did not have full control, thus sending the match to sudden-victory time. UVa stretched its lead to 14-6 when Sulzer, ranked second nationally at 165, used a big third period to nab a 14-5 major decision over Troy Reaghard. Sulzer (21-1) led 5-2 early in the third period before wearing Reaghard down and piling up a trio of takedowns as well as a pair of penalty points following Reaghard stall warnings. In the featured match of the day, seventh-ranked Tyler Wilps of Pitt outlasted fifth-ranked Blaise Butler (R-Jr., Belvidere, Ill.), 6-2, at 174. Wilps held a 3-2 lead early in the third period before taking Butler (14-2) down and building his riding time to 1:16 to pick up the extra point. The Panthers cut their team deficit to a point, 14-13, at 184 as second-ranked Max Thomusseit dominated in a 21-6 technical fall over Tyler Askey (R-Fr., Newnan, Ga.). Thomusseit did not record any back points, so the Panthers earned just four points for the tech fall. In another battle of ranked foes, Nye (13-5) earned a 2-1 win in the first tiebreaker period over No. 17 Nick Bonaccorsi. Ranked 19th nationally, Nye maintained control for the full 30 seconds in the first portion of the tiebreaker, and then escaped in 12 seconds in the second portion. COLUMBUS, Ohio -- Pins by Logan Stieber and Bo Jordan, a technical fall by Nathan Tomasello and major decisions from Kyle Snyder and Johnni DiJulius led the fourth-ranked Ohio State wrestling team (9-3, 5-1 Big Ten) to a convincing 31-9 victory over Maryland (5-11, 0-5) on Sunday at the XFINITY Center in College Park. The Buckeyes have now won five straight matches, their longest winning streak of the year. The match started at 125 pounds and Nathan Tomasello got Ohio State out to an early lead with a takedown and three-point near in first in the first period. In the second, Tomasello continued to rack up points with an escape, takedown and three-point nearfall. The match ended in the third with a three-point near fall and riding time. At 133 pounds, Johnni DiJulius led 4-2 after two period but pulled away in the third for a 10-2 major decision. He put up his third-period points with a takedown, three-point near fall and riding time. DiJulius in the first Buckeye to reach the 20-win mark this year. Senior Logan Stieber (17-0) made short work of Shyheim Brown at 141 pounds, picking up a fall in 2:54. For Stieber, it was his fifth pin in the last 14 days. He currently leads the team with nine falls on the year. In the next match at 157 pounds, Randy Languis began the third period trailing 1-0 but got an escape and a takedown for a 3-1 come-from-behind victory. The win gave Ohio State a 18-0 lead in the match. Brent Metcalf earned a silver medalMetcalf, a three-time U.S. World Team member, powered through the brackets with four straight wins to qualify for the championship finals, where he was edged by 2013 European bronze medalist Ilyas Bekbulatov of Russia, 6-8. It was Metcalf's second career Ivan Yarygin silver medal, to go with his second-place finish in 2013, when he also was defeated by Bekbulatov in the gold-medal finals. Metcalf opened with a 3-1 win over Ghadjimurad Abakarov of Russia, then stopped Viktor Stepanov of Russia by technical fall, 10-0. In the quarterfinals, he stopped eventual bronze medalist Zaurbek Sidakov of Russia, 9-1. BETHLEHEM, Pa. -- Powered by seven bonus point wins No. 11 Lehigh returned to Leeman-Turner Arena at Grace Hall with a 40-6 win over visiting Franklin & Marshall Saturday afternoon. Sophomore Mitch Minotti and senior Santiago Martinez led the way with wins by fall to lead Lehigh’s attack. The Mountain Hawks won nine of the ten bouts overall to improve to 10-3 on the dual season. “That week off was definitely needed,” Lehigh head coach Pat Santoro said. “It was good to come back with a nice match today and now the focus moves to Cornell tomorrow.” Freshman Scott Parker set the tone for Lehigh at 125 with the first of two wins by technical fall on the afternoon. Parker built an 8-1 lead after one period behind two takedowns and two two-point near falls, and added five more takedowns to win 19-4 in 5:50. At 133, junior Mason Beckman scored a takedown in the final five seconds to secure a major decision, defeating Scott Stevens 14-6. Beckman controlled the match throughout, with five takedowns in the first six-and-a-half minutes, but was unable to turn Stevens from the top position despite building up well over two minutes of riding time. A penalty point for locked hands and an escape brought Stevens within 11-6 late, but Beckman scored in the final five seconds and added the riding time point to get the major decision. “Early on we were trying to get our feel for competition back,” Santoro said. “Once we did our guys started opening up a little bit and it was good to see so many guys score late in periods.” Franklin & Marshall’s lone win came at 141 as Robert Ruiz won by fall over sophomore Dean Somers who got the call as Randy Cruz was given a rest. Minotti scored an early takedown then used an arm bar and a half nelson to secure the fall, which gave Lehigh a 19-6 lead at intermission. “Mitch really wanted to wrestle in Grace Hall,” Santoro said. “He went out and did what Mitch can do. He has a big one tomorrow but it was exciting to see him out here getting a pin.” The Mountain Hawks would eventually capture the final seven bouts of the dual including all five after the break. Following an 11-3 major decision by senior Marshall Peppelman over Andrew Francos at 165, Martinez posted his third pin in as many dual meet appearances, using an arm throw out of a Russian tie to put Gordon Bolig on his back for the fall in 1:28. LAWRENCEVILLE, N.J. -- A week ago Warren Bosch put an exclamation point on Edinboro's 27-12 win over Kent State with a pin. On Saturday Bosch came through once again to help the Fighting Scots to a key Eastern Wrestling League victory at Rider. Bosch won in overtime over Greg Velasco 2-1 to give Edinboro a 20-16 win over the Broncs. The Fighting Scots, ranked fifth in InterMat's Tournament Rankings and 15th in the latest NWCA/USA Today Division I Coaches Poll, are now 10-4 overall and 3-0 in the EWL. Rider, ranked 25th in the NWCA poll, is now 7-5 and 1-1, respectively. Bosch and Velasco exchanged escape in the second and third periods to send the match into overtime. Neither wrestler scored in overtime. Bosch would start on the bottom for the first 30-second tiebreaker and escaped for a 2-1 lead. He then rode out Velasco, surviving a wild scramble, for the decision. Bosch improved to 12-15 while Velasco is 11-9. The match was tight throughout. Kory Mines, ranked 17th at 125 lbs., boosted his record to 24-6 with a 9-1 major decision over J.R. West. The Broncs took a 6-4 lead as Rob Deutsch pinned Anthony Rivera at 4:50 in the 133 lb. match. Rivera has now lost all five of his matches while filling in for third-ranked A.J. Schopp, falling to 3-10. Second-ranked Mitchell Port gave the lead back to Edinboro with a 15-4 major decision over Chuck Zeisloft at 141 lbs. Zeisloft, a national qualifier a year ago, trailed just 3-2 after one period, but Port would lead 7-2 after two periods and pull away for his 16th win by bonus points this season. He is now 26-0 and 122-15 for his career. Second-ranked Dave Habat squared off against 19th-ranked B.J. Clagon at 149 lbs. in the lone match between two ranked wrestlers. The redshirt freshman would knot the score with an escape, but a takedown and riding time gave Habat a 9-6 decision. He is now 25-1 and 123-25 for his career. Habat's victory gave Edinboro an 11-6 advantage, but Rider would win at 157 and 165 lbs. to move ahead 13-11. At 157 lbs., Kasey Burnett-Davis fell to 11-10 while just missing out on upsetting 18th-ranked Chad Walsh (20-5). Walsh's third-period escape was the only point in the 1-0 decision. Conor Brennan (5-3) followed with a 12-4 major decision over Casey Fuller (14-12). Edinboro would win the next two matches to reclaim the lead at 17-13. Patrick Jennings won his third straight match with a 4-3 decision over Ryan Wolfe (11-9). Jennings led 4-0 after two periods and hung on to improve to 23-8. ITHACA, N.Y. -- The winner of the Cornell-Penn dual has won at least a share of the Ivy League title every season for the last 28 years. If it's to be 29 that's good news for the Big Red. No. 7 Cornell rallied from a halftime deficit with a big second half, winning the meet's final six matches en route to a 26-9 triumph over the Quakers on Saturday afternoon at Newman Arena. The Big Red improved to 9-1 (3-0 Ivy) and extended its win streak over Ivy opponents to 66 in the process. The Big Red shut out the Quakers 18-0 over the final five matches, spurred on by a first period fall by sophomore Dylan Palacio over Ray Bethea to turn the tide of the dual and get the crowd of better than 2,100 back into the match. Consecutive overtime wins, including a late rally to get there for Duke Pickett, and another top-five win for Gabe Dean, was one of three consecutive matches the Big Red won by a single point or in overtime. Nahshon Garrett earned a takedown four seconds into the match and dominated throughout, earning two nearfall to take a 4-0 lead with 2:56 of ride time into the second period. He dominated throughout, building more than four minutes of ride time before closing the match with a takedown with 20 seconds left to take home the tech fall. Bricker Dixon earned a takedown in the final minute of the first period against NCAA qualifier Caleb Richardson to take a 2-1 lead into the second. After choosing down and adding a point with an escape, Dixon gave up a reversal to Richardson early in the third to tie the match at 3-3 and rode him out final the final 75 seconds to lock in the riding point and win 4-3. Jason Canfora picked up a first period takedown in the final 15 seconds to take a 2-0 lead into the second. A Canfora reversal made it 4-0, and after a Ryan Dunphy escape, the Penn wrestler picked up a stalling point to head into the final period up 5-1. Dunphy earned a late escape to keep the match from being a major, but the Quakers were able to take the 6-5 lead. T.J. Cobb's first period takedown ended up being the difference in the match, as Chris Villalonga's escape point in the first and then in the second after choosing down put the match into sudden victory. After a couple scrambles where Villalonga just missed picking up the two, Cobb was able to get the advantage for two and the win to give the Quakers a 9-5 advantage. Cornell got back within a point of the visitors at halftime when Brian Realbuto earned a 7-2 win over Brooks Martino to send the home team to the break trailing 9-8. After resuming action, Palacio had the biggest result of the day, shaking off an early takedown from Ray Bethea, escaping and tilting the Quaker for the fall to put the Big Red back into the lead. Pickett and Dean won consecutive sudden victory contests with takedowns, Pickett only coming after locking in riding time late in the third, allowing the escape and then picking up the match-tying takedown with 11 seconds remaining in regulation. Dean nearly had three late takedowns to win his match against fifth-ranked Lorenzo Thomas, but settled for the walk-off win after defending a Thomas shot. Jace Bennett won at 197 with a narrow 3-2 decision thanks to a third period takedown that not only put him into the lead at 3-1, but erased a ride time point for Canaan Bethea. An escape by the Quaker got him back within a point, but Bennett was able to hold him off for the win. At heavyweight, Jacob Aiken-Phillips was in control throughout against Penn freshman Patrick Garren, taking a 2-1 lead and nearly two minutes of ride time into the second. That ride time creeped to nearly four minutes heading into the third period, and a pair of takedowns for the Big Red senior clinched the 8-2 decision. FARGO, N.D.--North Dakota State University won seven of 10 matches including pins from 125-pound sophomore Josh Rodriguez and 149-pound redshirt freshman Clay Ream to push past Cal Poly 27-9 in a non-conference dual Friday, Jan. 23, before 377 spectators at the Bentson Bunker Fieldhouse. The Bison have won four straight dual matches to improve to 5-3 on the season, while Cal Poly drops to 1-11. The Mustangs wrestle at South Dakota State on Sunday. NDSU jumps back into Western Wrestling Conference action next weekend, traveling to Air Force on Friday, Jan. 30, and 18th-ranked Wyoming on Sunday, Feb. 1. "I think we're getting some momentum heading into the middle of our (Western Wrestling) conference duals. I know we started out a little slow, but we're heading in the right direction," said NDSU assistant coach Manny Rivera. "We're young and the experience is helping. These guys are looking better each time out. The more they wrestle, the better they are going to get." North Dakota State recorded four straight victories after Cal Poly's Dominic Kastl posted a 6-3 decision over Kurtis Julson (Inver Grove Heights, Minn.) in the 174-pound weight division. VESTAL, N.Y. -- Binghamton (5-6, 3-1 EIWA) won six bouts and used a pair of bonus-point wins to forge a 22-14 victory over visiting Drexel (4-7, 1-1 EIWA) in an EIWA match Friday night at West Gym. The match began a weekend homestand that wraps up on Sunday when the Bearcats host Penn at 1 p.m. Senior 125-pound David White, ranked No. 27 in the NCAA Coaches' Panel, gave BU a quick 6-0 lead with a second-period pin. Then the Bearcats shrugged off some setbacks in the middle weights and rattled off five consecutive wins to end the match. "The guys did a great job tonight," head coach Matt Dernlan said. "Right out of the gate David (White) set the tone with his pin. He established momentum, dictated the action and when he had the opportunity to secure bonus points he did it." After White's win, Drexel responded with four straight wins to take a 14-6 lead. Redshirt freshman Zack Zupan got the comeback started with a 7-2 decision at 165. Zupan (14-11) snapped a 2-2 tie early in the third period with an escape and then added two takedowns for the final cushion. At 174, freshman Steven Schneider scored a key decision, working the edge of the mat for a takedown 38 seconds into overtime and a 4-2 win. From there, BU's upper weights flexed their muscle. Junior 184-pound Jack McKeever built three minutes of riding time in his 5-1 decision. Ranked No. 31 in the NCAA Coaches' Panel, McKeever improved to 15-7 overall. 7-4 in duals. Senior 197-pound Caleb Wallace then used a five-point second period to post an 8-0 major decision. Wallace had a takedown and back points and added another takedown and riding time in the third to give BU a 19-14 lead. "Schneider's match was a huge swing match for us," Dernlan said. "Our backs were against the wall. Steven's been grinding it and he found a way to get it done. That was a big, mature win for a true freshman. I'm most proud of Caleb (Wallace), though. he was pretty down all week after the Columbia match and he carried that repsonsibility all week and I was proud that he not only got the win tonight for himself, but got a major decision. That put the match away and took the pressure off Tyler. It was great showing by our upper weights." On Sunday, Binghamton will see the fourth-ranked team in the EIWA in the Quakers. "Penn is one of the top three or four teams in the EIWA and we'll have to have our best effort," Dernlan said. "In his league there aren't any easy wins ... you have to fight for every match. That's what we want and that's why we came into the EIWA. We want to be battle-tested for the end of the year." Greeley, Colo. –-- The Oregon State wrestling team remained undefeated on Friday with a 40-6 victory at Northern Colorado in the opening dual of a two-match road trip. The 20th-ranked Beavers (6-0) won 8 of 10 bouts and earned bonus points in each victory in dispatching the Bears. They stretched their winning streak to nine consecutive duals over the past two seasons. Jack Hathaway (133), Devin Reynolds (141) and Seth Thomas (165) all pinned their opponent. BOISE, Idaho -- The Arizona State wrestling team (7-5, 2-1 Pac-12) used three bonus-point wins to hold off Boise State (2-5, 0-2 Pac-12), 20-18, on Friday night at Taco Bell Arena as part of the Broncos’ Beauty and the Beast Meet with its gymnastics program. Redshirt freshman Christian Pagdilao started things off for ASU with a 16-5 major decision win over Jake Valarde at 149 pounds, his 11th consecutive win dating back to competition at the Daktronics Open on Nov. 2. Pagdilao is now 7-0 in duals and 4-0 in bonus-point victories this season. Redshirt junior Blake Stauffer picked up ASU’s second major decision of the night, 13-4 over Austin Dewey at 184 pounds. Stauffer’s record this season improves to 21-1, 11-1 in dual competition, and Stauffer is 6-0 in major decisions this season, also improves to 16-0 in majors in his career. YPSILANTI, Mich. -- Spartan heavyweight Chris Nash recorded a 17-5 major decision over Eastern Michigan's Gage Hutchison in the last match of the dual to secure Michigan State's 18-16 victory against the Eagles Friday night at the Convocation Center. In a back-and-forth dual that featured five lead changes, the Spartans (4-7) found themselves down 13-4 after the first five matches, but they came storming back to win four of the next five to win for the 17th time against the Eagles in 19 meetings. Mitch Rogaliner got things started for Michigan State with a dominating 15-3 major decision over Blake Caudill at 125 pounds. The Eagles (7-7) bounced back to win the next four bouts, including three consecutive by one point, which were all decided by riding time. Vincent Pizzuto edged Hermilo Esquivel at 133 pounds, 9-8, Michael Shaw beat Terry Turner, 6-5, at 141, and Nick Barber topped Nick Trimble at 149, 5-4. In the 157-pound match, Kaelan Richards, who has wrestled at 149 all season long, moved up one division but dropped a major decision to Brandon Zeerip, 18-5. NORWALK, Ohio -- In front of a sellout crowd at Norwalk High School, the Ohio State wrestling team used three pins and five wins via bonus points to roll past Indiana, 31-13, on Friday evening. With the win, Ohio State is 8-3 overall (4-1 Big Ten) while Indiana falls to 2-6 (0-5 Big Ten). Redshirt senior Logan Stieber, playing in front of friends and family just six miles from his hometown of Monroeville, Ohio, was the star of the night, earning his eighth pin of the year to send the sellout crowd into frenzy at 141 pounds. Stieber needed just 2:14 to pin Indiana's Sean Brown. He moved to 16-0 on the year and 106-3 in his career. The other key win for the Buckeyes came at 165 pounds where redshirt freshman and fifth-ranked Bo Jordan came from behind to defeated seventh-ranked Taylor Walsh is sudden victory overtime, 6-4. Jordan trailed 4-2 late in the first period before a takedown tied the score and then sealed the win with a takedown just 30 seconds into the sudden victory period. Jordan improved to 10-0 this season. At 184 pounds, Kenny Courts pinned Indiana's Jake Masengale in 2:56, giving Ohio State a 9-4 lead just three matches into the dual. It was Courts' third pin of the year. In the next match at 197 pounds, true freshman Kyle Snyder continued his stellar campaign with an 18-7 major decision over Luke Sheridan. A forfeit at 125 ponds gave Ohio State a 19-7 lead in the match, and then Johnni DiJulius picked up his team-leading 18th win of the year with a fall over Alonzo Shepherd in 4:27. In all, Ohio State won six of 10 matches with four falls and a major decision. The dual win is also the Buckeyes' fourth in a row. Champaign, Ill. -- No. 13 Nebraska (6-1, 3-1 Big Ten) built an early 10-0 lead and never looked back in a 22-9 win over No. 12 Illinois at Huff Hall on Friday night. Aaron Studebaker got the Huskers started on the right track with a come-from-behind win over Jeff Koepke at 197 pounds. The sophomore from Raymond, Neb., earned a takedown with 10 seconds left to pick up a 4-3 victory. No. 17 Collin Jensen (HWT) and No. 11 Tim Lambert (125) each posted shutouts to give NU a 10-0 lead after three matches. At 141 pounds, No. 10 Anthony Abidin took down 12th-ranked Steven Rodrigues by a 10-4 decision following Eric Montoya’s 3-2 loss to No. 4 Zane Richards at 133 pounds. At 149 pounds, Justin Arthur notched an 8-4 decision over Kyle Langenderfer to give the Huskers a 16-3 advantage after six bouts. Third-ranked James Green (157) suffered his second consecutive loss on the season with his 2-0 setback against No. 4 Isaiah Martinez. Green, a three-time All-American, is 18-3 during the 2014-15 campaign. Austin Wilson fell to No. 8 Jackson Morse, 2-1, at 165 pounds before top-ranked Robert Kokesh (174) held on for a 5-3 decision against ninth-ranked Zac Brunson. Kokesh, a two-time All-American, improves to 23-0 on the season. In the final match of the night, No. 18 TJ Dudley (184) defeated No. 20 Nikko Reyes by a 6-3 decision. ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- The No. 16-ranked University of Michigan wrestling team used wins early and late to claim a decisive 24-12 victory over No. 17 Wisconsin on Friday evening (Jan. 23) in front of 1,125 fans at Cliff Keen Arena. The Wolverines claimed seven individual matches to deal Wisconsin its first Big Ten Conference loss of the season. Junior/sophomore Conor Youtsey set the tone at the opening weight, securing U-M's only bonus win with a second-period fall against Matt Cavallaris at 125 pounds. The Wolverine wrestler dominated the match, scoring on five takedowns to build up a 12-3 advantage before sticking Cavallaris off a crusher late in the middle frame, at the 4:41 mark. It was Youtsey's second pin of the season. After the Badgers gained back several team points with a technical fall at 133 pounds, Michigan earned three straight decisions to carry a 10-point advantage into the intermission break. Sophomore/freshman George Fisher, ranked 17th in the latest InterMat poll, scored a pair of takedowns en route to a 6-2 win over Jesse Thielke at 141 pounds. After a couple early flurries produced no points, Fisher struck late in the first period, finishing on a single-leg takedown on the edge in the waning seconds of the frame. He added another single leg off a second-period restart but quickly got to high and gave up a late reversal. He rode out the final period, however, accumulating 1:39 in time advantage. Freshman Alec Pantaleo, ranked ninth at 149 pounds, used a second-period takedown to defeat Rylan Lubeck, 3-1, at claim his fifth straight dual win. Pantaleo opened scoring with a second-period escape and finished on a single leg, winning the short ensuring scramble, late in the frame. Pantaleo improved to 4-0 in Big Ten duals. Sophomore Brian Murphy, ranked 15th nationally, picked up his third straight dual win, scoring two takedowns to defeat Jarod Donar, 6-1, at 157 pounds. Murphy finished on single-leg attacks in the first and third periods and rode for 3:10 time advantage. Wisconsin picked up an extra point at 165 pounds, where fourth-ranked Isaac Jordan earned a 9-0 major decision over 10th-ranked junior/sophomore Taylor Massa, but U-M again responded with three straight wins at the upperweights. Fifth-year senior Jake Salazar, who bumped up two weight classes to 174 pounds, surged to an 8-3 decision over Frank Cousins, breaking open the bout with three explosive double-leg takedowns in the final three minutes. After just missing on several double-leg attacks in the first period, he finished one with just 12 seconds remaining in the second and appeared to take the gas out of Cousins. He scored two more early in the third and added a stall point but could not finish again late in the frame to settle for the decision. Sophomore Domenic Abounader, ranked 10th at 184 pounds, needed extra time to defeat the Badgers' Ricky Robertson but gutted out a 2-1 decision with the rideout in the second tiebreaker. The wrestlers traded just one escape apiece and little else through the opening nine minutes of the bout, but Abouander claimed the upperhand with a quick, six-second escape in the first of two 30-second goes in the second tiebreaker. He rode out Robertson in the second 30, putting a cap on it with a hard return in the final five seconds. Fifth-year senior Max Huntley, ranked eighth at 197 pounds, used a big third-period comeback to defeat ninth-ranked Timmy McCall, 9-6, in the first of back-to-back marquee matches. Huntley trailed by four points midway through the second period after giving up a double leg and two near-fall points when he was returned straight to his back. Huntley cut the gap with a single leg late in the frame then score five points out of a third-period scramble, initiating the situation with a single-leg attack and securing three near fall. The Badgers' third-ranked Connor Medbery used a comeback of his own to claim the second marquee bout, using a late takedown and near fall to defeat seventh-ranked sophomore Adam Coon, 7-3, in the heavyweight contest. After scoring on a quick first-period single leg, Coon led 3-1 until the final 15 seconds of the match when Medbery finished on a single leg and, just like in Huntley's match, returned the Wolverine wrestler straight to his back. The Wolverines will close out the weekend on the road, traveling to Bloomington, Ind., to wrestle Indiana at 1 p.m. on Sunday (Jan. 25) at University Gymnasium.
