  1. Zain with a second child on the way too. Very informative interview.
  2. Can you find any reference to the second window for winter sports? I was unable to.
  3. The simple reading is he is out of luck. But I do not know if I am missing any exceptions or exemptions.
  4. Not that I am aware of. It appears that for Fall and Spring sports there are two transfer windows. One is 30 days and the other is 15 days. For winter sports there is a single 45 day transfer window. http://fs.ncaa.org/Docs/eligibility_center/Transfer/DIUG_Windows.pdf
  5. Good point. But can Iowa change their stripes? Gilman once said he left because the HWC was a job program (I know, I know, there are competing theories here).
  6. I previously said in response to someone, that I do not see Alirez going to Oklahoma State as that would not be money well spent. It would not get them to a title in his one year of remaining eligibility. But after listening to Taylor's press conference, I can now see it happening. Taylor emphasized the need to build the RTC right away. His reasoning is that you need to show recruits and possible transfers that there is a path to success beyond college, if they have those aspirations. Of course, anyone who is an NCAA title contender right off the bat has those aspirations. Against that backdrop, bringing Alirez in for a year makes perfect sense if it is a glide path to building the RTC. I think we all agree that Alirez will be a real threat at 65kg for years to come, so viewing him as an RTC building block rather than just a college building block means you probably make the NIL down payment on him this year to secure him for the RTC next year, and beyond.
  7. No, to both questions. If he wins gold (or not) I think he sticks around for at least one run at a world championship, too. As for AD. Laughable. Lets start with the fact that Iowa just hired a new AD about a year ago. As for Spencer Lee, he has zero qualifications. The youngest AD in D1 was hired at ~31 years of age after serving in administrative roles at 4 institutions. With no graduate degrees, no experience, and a new AD in place not even he should be foolish enough to suggest he become Iowa's AD. Best case scenario is that job is a decade away.
  8. Whatever happened to all the shrinking violets on the college board who wanted this made illegal?
  9. One more thing from The Athletic article this morning. Pay to play is allowed. We all need to wrap our heads around that. While the rule originally banned any pay to play arrangements in February of this year a Tennessee federal court issued a temporary injunction on the NCAA, preventing them from enforcing that part of the rule. That injunction applies in every state. Until that injunction is lifted, collectives and individual boosters can use NIL as an inducement for enrollment or transfer.
  10. I think they get the money after the transfer. The idea is that now they can travel to see the kid play. Maybe they just get tickets and hotel rooms at the game site on game weekends, or maybe they get cash and go to Miami when the kid is playing in Nebraska in December?
  11. I just read in The Athletic that the new thing in college football is for NIL collectives to provide the family a travel stipend to induce a player to transfer.
  12. "I am large. I contain multitudes. Walt Whitman" Michael Scott
  13. R16 as a sophomore. Only time he qualified.
  14. I'm a PSU fan and I find Basch hard to take. His questions are more multi-paragraph dissertations than actual questions. And his constant name dropping is painful.
  15. More lollipop than Madden. But Madden was probably bigger.
