  1. I want to get my best wishes in early as I will be out and about. Everyone have a wonderful and safe time. I enjoy arguing with you all, I enjoy learning from you all, and I enjoy being entertained by you all. I want to thank @Husker_Du for scrambling to put this board together on short notice as an early Christmas present to us all. Thank you @BobDole for your work from beyond the grave to make it all happen. And thank you @jross for archiving the previous board. Enjoy your family and friends everyone.
  2. Exactly. Why should a university feel an obligation to educate and inform?
  3. And the tournaments in the 10 weight era with the fewest teams taking the spoils were 1972 and 1997, when only 5 teams won the 10 titles. OK, I will stop now.
  4. One more aside for you. In the 10 weight era it has happened only 6 times out of 66 tournaments (9.1%), but 4 of them happened in a 10 year period (40%): 1963, 1988, 2000, 2004, 2007, 2009. It also happened in 1932 when there were only 8 weights.
  5. You probably keep a kids ball when it comes in your yard, too, don't ya?
  6. So what changed about 149 this year? Wasn't the consensus last year that 149 was one of the weakest weights, Yianni excepted?
  7. Yes. From the WIN article: Hodge was a prolific pinner who never surrendered a takedown in his three collegiate seasons. Hodge, who votes on the committee, wholeheartedly felt Willson should win the award. “This just proves that the most dominant wrestler can come out of any division and that anyone is eligible to win the award,” he said.
  8. I agree that Diakomihalis probably would not come back if not for a shot at four. And the same is probably true for Lee. This is year six of what they thought was a four year journey. It has to be hard to motivate at this point, but I also think they will be very motivated by the time the tourney rolls around.
  9. I think the religious right is the easiest group to understand. He delivered on the one thing that matters to many. He got Roe v. Wade rescinded.
  10. And I love this about Peery from the EIWA Bio page: But at NCAAs at 123 Peery surged late, as he did to win all three finals. In 1955, he reversed and pinned with 0:30 seconds left. In ’56, he was taken down twice by Harmon Leslie (NCAA 2,2) but won, 7-5. In his final bout at home in Pittsburgh, Ed again trailed Harmon, 7-3 in the third. But an escape, takedown and riding time forced overtime where Ed earned a unanimous referees’ decision, 7-7,2-2.
  11. Why these two years? In 2023 we will crown two new 100%ers (I refuse to contemplate otherwise). The last time that happened was 1957. With Spencer Lee and Yianni Diakomihalis 100% guaranteed (guaran-damn-teed, some may say) to finish their careers having won 100% of the NCAA titles they are eligible for, I decided to see how often this has happened. There have been four other occasions where two wrestlers completed perfect NCAA tournament careers. In 1931, Conrad Caldwell and Jack van Bebber did the deed. Followed by Rex Peery and Ross Flood in 1935. In 1939, it was Joe McDaniel's and Stanley Henson's turn. Finally, in 1957 Ed Peery and Dan Hodge each won their third consecutive title. The 1930's was a whole other animal when it came to the NCAA tournament. The tournaments were much smaller than they are today. Participation was almost always fewer than 100 wrestlers across seven or eight weights. Travel was a big issue so there were generally fewer than 30 teams and almost all of those came from the center and eastern two thirds of the country. In 1957, Ed Peery won an 18 man bracket at 123, going 4-0 as the #1 seed. He won the final by unanimous referee's decision in overtime (I always find these referee's decisions to be odd). That was also the Peery family's unprecedented ninth title as his father and brother were also 100%ers in their day. I wonder what ever happened to the third generation. Dan Hodge won a 24 man bracket at 177, pinning 4 of his 5 opponents (2 in under a minute). In his three tournaments Hodge pinned eleven of his thirteen opponents. Only Don Wem and John Dustin were able to go the distance in those three years. The 1957 tournament was the largest up to that date with 213 wrestlers (that total would not regularly be eclipsed until 1963) from 62 teams.
  12. I don't need to. I didn't suggest he wasn't deserving. And your generic response suggeats you can't support your claim either.
  13. He said after he finds a new CEO he will "just run the software & servers teams." Can you imagine taking the Twitter CEO position and have Musk as both your boss (he owns Twitter) and your subordinate (he manages a division)? Nightmare.
  14. Who would you propose should have won it or shared it that year (2004)?
  15. Ignore him. He is just being a tool. Ackerman was D3 rather than D2, which is so inconsequential.
  16. Counterpoint. No he wasn't. Refs didn't call it therefore it didn't happen.
  17. I like to lurk over there and your characterization doesn't fit. There is a lot of "but he will win in March" vibe. What about their last ten to twelve years of results at NCAA's would argue otherwise? Some quotes: "Anyone can lose, even a guy like AB who I would put good money on that he will still likely cruise to another national title this year. All it takes is an off night and/or a game opponent, one move, one position, etc. But this result won't matter much come March" "This said, Brooks unlikely to lose to Coleman again," "It happens but Brooks is Thanos in March." "I don't think he beats Brooks ever without that 6 point move but give him credit for having the skill set and athletic ability to hit it and pull out the match."
  18. He is not wrong to point out that there are criteria, and then there are criteria. We are all still waiting for them to release the votes for 2021.
  19. Kevin Dresser went on FRL in 2018 or 2019 and admitted to breaking NCAA rules. I am sure the hammer will come down any day now.
  20. "Hey, coach, I was hoping you could help me with my head inside single today." "Just google it. And after practice we will have a presentation from our new head of compliance Dr. Justgoogleit. If you came to Wisconsin looking to learn, I have good news for you. We have google."
  21. That is not 100% accurate. Wisconsin has stated that they did not tell their athletes about the May 1 deadline to enter the portal, and so have some culpability.
  22. That, unfortunately, may be right. But you can make a stronger case for the reverse order. Also, if Brooks is off the list, so is Diakomihalis.
