  1. I think Diakomihalis has already posted on social media that he will challenge. Does Retherford then extract his revenge for being forced to hire a lawyer, by then entering the challenger tourney so he gets first shot at Diakomihalis and either eliminates him before resigning the best of three to Lee, or soften him up for Lee? Channeling my inner Jimmy C there. From what I hear Retherford does not have a vengeful bone in his body.
  2. But didn't JB have a month or more to prepare for one wrestler, Marsteller? Isn't it possible that JB is a fraction of a fraction slower or less strong than he used to be? It is like a running back hitting a hole. One day you are fast enough, but the next day, after enough hits, the hole closes just before you get there. I am not saying JB is there, but that fate awaits us all.
  3. I see versions of this statement often enough on these boards and I think it is flawed. If Gillman or Burroughs or Diakomihalis could perform better than Richards, Marsteller, or Lee against the world then it stands to reason they could also outperform those three domestically. But they didn't so it also stands to reason that they could not perform better against the world at this point. Take JB, for example. It is reasonable to assume at his age that he is not the wrestler he once was. And it certainly looked that way at Final X. Nothing observed at Final X would suggest he would do better against better competition to me.
  4. What is an Elon Musk personal guarantee worth? For that matter, what is an Elon Musk contractural guarantee worth? Apparently, in order to save $1bn in cash and get the deal done, Musk gave a free put struck at the deal price to Jack Dorsey to keep Dorsey invested, thereby saving Musk from also having to buy Dorsey's $1bn stake. But what does that even mean? No one knows if it is a verbal agreement or written. But given Musk's unwillingness to honor contracts, it is not clear if the form matters. Musk is also eternally short of cash (hence the need for the free put), so now Dorsey has both Musk's credit risk and his hatred of honoring contracts to deal with. Nothing to do with Twitter being better per se (except that if it is maybe Dorsey doesn't need to exercise the put), but boy if I was Fidelity or any other shareholder, I sure would be ticked that a director of the company who was suing Musk to make him pay up also got a side deal put worth hundreds of millions in order to not take any downside risk on the deal. It is always entertaining with Musk.
  5. In addition to hiring Taylor as head coach, they should hire Cunningham and the Sanderson brothers as assistants, and get the PSU lineup to transfer to Iowa.
  6. Same as me. Except I didn't wrestle so other guys could have all the titles.
  7. Good question. I think I have to say Vito, even as a PSU fan.
  8. Which is exactly how you would program a robot sent to destroy.
  9. At least? Dude went 3-1 in the quarter of death. Almost pinned a guy who hadn't lost in a long while. Most were predicting one and done. Show some respect to three wins done three different ways.
  10. Lee has my full faith and credit at 65kg Pan Ams.
  11. There are many issues. I doubt Iowa would part with the current second most successful coach in the sport absent any off the mat issues. Of course, the big off the mat issue we are aware of is the gambling suspensions. I doubt that is sufficient though. But lets pretend it is. If so, would Taylor even be interested in the job? Perhaps, given the money involved. As a trader I once worked with once said, it isn't about the money, it's about the f'ing money. But then there is the issue of Spencer Lee. If, as suggested on HR, he is "The One Who Was Promised" but he is not yet ready to coach, do they risk alienating him by firing his current coach and bringing in someone who is unlikely to retire by the time Lee is ready to coach? I have my doubts. All in all I do not see it happening.
  12. He is referring to who can compete to qualify the weight for the country at Pan Ams rather than who can qualify for the Olympic trials.
  13. Belgrade is an interesting intersection between Europe and Russia. The old part of the city is a great walking city. The streets are always busy and very safe. All day and night there are woman in groups and singly walking everywhere. There are large swaths of pedestrian only streets and interesting things to see. An uncountable number of resteraunts and cafes lined all of the inner city. And we hit a fair number. The Soviet feel comes from the immense amount of crumbling concrete. Crumbling building facades especially. But near the arena it is a spectacular amount of very bad concrete as far as the eye can see. The steps up to the arena are down right comically bad trip hazard on top of trip hazard. And the plaza is full of ankle breakers. None of this would pass building codes in the US. It is really hard to describe just how bad the concrete was. They would be amazed at the advances in concrete the west has made. The inside of the arena was completely different and quite nice. Except for the bathrooms. Those were a weird experience. Apparently they do not have toilet paper or paper towels. There are not even holders for them. No soap. No working hand dryers. We took to bringing TP from the hotel just in case. On the plus side, the wrestling and running of the event were great. All very professionally done. Excellent production values to support amazing athletes. On the non-wrestling plus side, the hospitality was fantastic. One of the bartenders from the hotel came to watch wrestling with us today. The food was amazing. And the portions were ridiculously large while the prices were ridiculously low. The wife and I really enjoyed the trip.
  14. I said to my wife, how stupid is that? It means nothing to the guy on the podium and even less to us.
  15. Nope. Still no beer. And there isn't even TP holders. Makes stadium construction so much easier. On the plus side, wonderful hosts, great food, and very low prices.
  16. 92 kg silver medalist collapsed while walking away from mats. Surrounded by medical staff, but walking off under his own power after several minutes and declining a gurney.
  17. I am more concerned about the apparent ban on toilet paper.
  18. I do not think that is a fair comparison. It took me many hours, two flights and thousands of dollars to get here. I have often just driven to the NCAAs. Worlds and Olympics will always have lesser crowds due sheerly to logistics. But I suspect David Taylor's Olympic gold means more to him than his two NCAA titles.
  19. Before seeing the brackets? No one. After seeing the brackets? There were some I spoke with who did predict he would make the final, others only the semifinal. But predicting is easy. All credit to him for doing the deed.
  20. Can I have his number? I need to discuss pinfall with him.
  21. If it was Mat A it was a reversal of a TD and a penalty for a singlet pull.
