  1. Does @Husker_Du's infamous turtle neck photo qualify?
  2. Again, we're talking crazy on AJ because everything I've heard is that he's crazy big. If he could healthily make 197, we're being very dismissive of former NCAA champ AJ Ferrari's ability to beat a guy who lost to Marcus Coleman last year.
  3. Lets get Michigan some transfers, been quite the drought from them. What, like 20-30 minutes since the last one?
  4. If AJ could make 197 in any kind of healthy fashion (I doubt it, but playing hypotheticals), hecoudl definitely beat Brooks Brooks was not a tall 184, Ferrari is 6 feet and just a bigger person. I would agree that Brooks is the more skilled of the two (considering the last AAJ we saw; it seems even more unlikely he would have become MORE skilled by not wrestling).
  5. The truth is, Gable would have thrived wherever he went. He is that level of talent. From my nosebleed view, his skillset hasn't expanded that much, he's mostly fine-tuned that, but where he has improved most has been his physical shape and body, so props to the Minnesota strength/conditioning program for that. I'm not even trying to rub any Gopher fans noses in anything; honestly, if I had to guess, I'd say he stays at Minny for his final year.
  6. Sure. Steveson is pretty plug and play, but he has certainly thrived while working there. What about the rest of the roster?
  7. Previously this was either criminalized or the money went to the very wealthy institutions. Now the money goes to the labor who are responsible for the actual product I watch, which I'm fine with.
  8. If I pay one of my children $20 to clean her room (I have all girls), I'm not getting $20 worth of work. There's countless examples, like I said. I don't think most people would claim that their investments in these kinds of deals generate commensurate profits. There are...collateral values. Or non-financial benefits. That kind of thing.
  9. Anything we assign sentimental value to. Charitable donations. Sports memorabilia was a good example. Pretty much any collectible. The current crypto boomlet/NFTs. The point being the calculus isn't always how much you are paying out vs how much you are bringing in for every transaction.
  10. People are conflating what an athletes services are worth vs. the actual monetary value they generate. We're in a non-revenue sport. Very few of the athletes generate actual profits. But, to a booster, an athlete at their school earning AA or helping to a team trophy/team title may have more value to them than straight dollars and cents. We do this all the time in society.
  11. Based on the free market ideals Ben claims to believe in, you are worth whatever somebody will pay you.
  12. Brands definitely did not have those expectations coming in. He was a lower level recruit by recruiting rankings. For example, he was 93rd on Flo's Big Board as a senior. https://www.flowrestling.org/rankings/6031406-class-of-2018-big-board/28106-final-2018-big-board
  13. Caliendo is no guarantee to start over Kennedy if they stay at the same weight. I know Caliendo AA'd and Kennedy didn't, but the roads were VERY different. Man. I know this is good for the program, and the way the current landscape and game has to be played, but there's something a little less fun about this for me. I'm sure I'll be over it by March.
  14. Anecdote: they sold out of Bud Light at my local dive bar, very redneck crowd. Important factual note: Bud Light should be thrown out by virtue of it being awful. Love yourselves more, drink Belgians. #GuldenDraak
  15. Exactly. He's critical of it now because he's not able to fully utilize it to his advantage. If and when he can, he will.
  16. The Ivies take pride in being about the academics over the sports and about competing with each other moreso than the rest of the nation. That's part of their whole "thing." He attacked a loophole. It's fine.
  17. I know, I just listened to a podcast a few months ago on Deliverance, and read a bunch about it (and other Burt Reynold's roles) after Burt passed away.
  18. Within the context of the NWT forum, it's made me look at Banjo Boy in a new light: he looks like a weird amalgamation of Joe Biden and Eric Trump
  19. https://www.thestreet.com/personalities/tucker-carlsons-twitter-ratings-seem-like-good-news-but-theres-one-major-catch https://www.mediaite.com/tech/was-tucker-carlsons-new-twitter-show-actually-watched-by-114-million-people/ As suspected, the "views" of his Twitter show are...ahem...fake news.
  20. Coaches use rules to their advantage at every turn in every sport. Ol' Finger Lakes Koll should know that.
  21. Hard to believe Koll was nearly pried from his long tenure at Stanford where he has loyally toiled for 28 yea---wait a second....
  22. Koll doesn't purchase teams! Now he himself is obviously for sale, but...
  23. Iowa was a bigger favorite in 2020 than they were in 2021. They weren't robbed of a title per se, but they were robbed of the very likely opportunity to win one. Collegiate wrestling is a grind, and by 2022, the guys were still there but even more ground down. However, again, I would characterize it as losing the opportunity at a very likely title. 2020 was Iowa's strongest year and Penn State's weakest in a long while; they took 4th in the B1G tournament, not second. Iowa lost their opportunity, as did many very great individual wrestlers like Kollin Moore, Luke Pletcher, Pat Lugo,, Matt Kolodzik (among the athletes who suffered the worst from an athletic perspective), Mark Hall, Vincenzo Joseph. Then you had guys losing what might have been their best opportunities for a title (Sasso, Rivera, Marinelli). All spilt milk though. It sucks, but it is what it is; but for COVID, Iowa is extremely likely to have won two titles and Spencer Lee probably has his 4 titles. They don't though, and ain't nothing changing that.
