So I posted the other day that I am been coaching for a little while now and that I am working in a inner city school. I got some awesome feedback on my last post so my next question is how do I get kids out to join wrestling in a inner city school? What are some good ideas out there? I know it's a big challenge but it can be done. I know it is not inner city but I remember watching a Roy Hall interview of Davison Michigan when he first took over his high school program there only about eight kids on team. That's the kind of situation that I am in. What do you all think?

The rumor around the state is that when Coach Smith is done they are cleaning house.

Any word on where his brothers are going to go to school at?

To me as an OK State fan my whole life it is a shame to see such a drop off. I am just wondering if the University has a clue who they want when Coach Smith retires or steps down. It seems like places like Penn State, Iowa, Arizona State, NC State have evolved with the times and Ok State has not. I would like to see a Chris Pendleton Coleman Scott or David Taylor type come in

I appreciate that and that's a good idea with the big brothers. My school is good about providing us with what we need such uniforms and equipment. Right now the big issue is getting kids to buy in and be committed. I have two middle school feeder programs that start practice next week in our wrestling room after our practices are done. I am going to get real involved with the ms programs and build relationships with the coaches and kids. I think in a few years we could have a full line up and a competitive team

Who do you think will be the next coach for the Cowboys? Coach Smith is the greatest american wrestler of all time and one of the greatest coaches of all time but lately the NCAA finishes have been far under par from what they used to be. The cowboys have had great recruiting classes but it seems some of the wrestlers have not panned out. What is going on in Stillwater? I hate to say this but change is needed.

I am a head coach for an inner city school. I have been a high school wrestling coach for four years now. I have never coached inner city before. Obviously in this environment its not necessarily about winning state championships or having All-Americans but more about being there for these athletes and teaching them the sport of wrestling. Any advice or tips would be greatly appreciated
