  1. I remember Karl Lynes was a JUCO champ back in the 80's and transferred to Okie State. He was 4th place at NCAAs in 1984. He was seeded #4 in 1983 but lost in his first match and the stupid repechage system was used back then. When the guy who beat him didn't make the finals, poof, Karl was done. JUCO is actually a notch below D3 isn't it?
  2. Seemed like those guys were always trying to body lock each other!
  3. I'm not counting anybody out. I'm an old timer who has seen an unseeded guy with a losing record win the whole ball of wax. I'm saying NU might have 5 or 6 AAs out of the 8 you listed. If they do better than that, good for NU.
  4. Only 4 of the guys you listed are even seeded in the top 8, seems like it would take a good deal of luck to get even 5 or 6 AAs, let alone 8.
  5. None of those predictions look too crazy to me. I think all of PSU's guys place but I wouldn't be too shocked if it was 8 or 9.
  6. Joseph was a brave guy not afraid to go upper body with IMAR. I'm not sure he ever beat Marinelli!
  7. I remember that cartoon, it was hilarious. I think Frank looked the cartoonist up and beat him to a pulp
  8. I can't imagine anybody not betting on PSU to win it all unless there were heavy point odds, like in a bet on an NFL football game. The betting on which other teams make the podium would be the big money bets.
  9. He was a lot more aggressive back in those days!
  10. NU is pretty good, but I'd say the ceiling on AAs for them is 5 or 6 out of that group, unless they got super lucky.
  11. Remember the "I choose down" moment by Molinaro in the finals against Dake? Molinaro got taken down and ridden like a donkey by Dake in the first period then chose down to start the 2nd period
  12. Here's an old one. I actually knew JJ and his family. His dad was a preacher.
  13. There are a lot of guys that would get teched by MM, and probably more than one of those teched guys will be AAs after next week.
  14. I think he holds himself about on par with Kolat, which is insane.
  15. I wouldn't care if my team's coach wore nothing but a smile if he made the team as good as PSU.
  16. Hey, it's not "gambling" if you always win. Didn't your mama teach you that?
  17. This is probably a stupid question, but have any Illinois wrestlers won any individual titles since Marianetti?
  18. That's been Fix's problem in the big matches, he tightens up way too much. He needs to go crazy in the finals this year and utilize his quickness and power. Instead of waiting for the perfect shot, he needs to make some shit happen, he needs to wrestle aggressively. He's got some great offensive stuff if he would just use it.
  19. You ain't wrong, he's a notch below those guys.
  20. That seems pretty pessimistic to me. There are 6 "locks" to make the semifinals: Bartlett, Haines, MM, Starocci, Brooks and Kerkvliet. Davis is #1 seed but we all know 125 is nuts this year. Still, I think he's got a high chance to AA. 133 has Nagao, I have little doubt he finishes top 6. Kasak has wrestled very tough this year, I think he's got about 50/50 chance of AA (probably better than 50/50), and I think Truax will make the semifinals and thus AA. Plus PSU always amps it up at NCAAs. I think PSU has a very good chance to have 10 AAs. I'd say 50% chance or better. I also think they'll win at least 3 individual titles (174, 197, HWT), and probably another.
  21. The problem with that prediction is that Carter Starocci is actually going to score at least 20 points regardless of where they seed him.
