The point some of the Badger faithful make is that transfer eligibility is ALWAYS decided at the NCAA level - NOT at the university level. They suggest that now that Burwick is enrolled at another school, not on a UW scholarship, etc., that his availability for the Huskers is strictly an NCAA thing; while the prior school might be able to sign-off on a letter suggesting "go with my blessing," it really isn't a binding constraint with regard to transfer eligibility but rather, the NCAA has the final say...and that's what's holding things up. Personally, I don't know enough about these things to know for sure - anybody else have some better insight as to the actual dynamics?

Yeah, but neither is the NCAA. Standing on the other side is the actual UW athletic department, who has formal standing and supposedly an insider to the ongoing events. Hard to know the truth of the matter. That said, I don't know why the UW would be stalling on this as well as issuing a half-baked statement on the matter. Something smells.

Sorry to say that Askren is not the NCAA - although he may be right. Askren has a hatchet to bury with the UW so take his assessment with a grain of salt - although he might be spot on. UW athletic dept. suggests otherwise - don't know who to believe. if the UW is holding things up it sounds pretty small.

Some of the same discussion over on the Wisconsin wrestling forum about a month or so ago with some strong Wisconsin supporters being adamant that the UW is NOT holding up Burwick but rather, if anyone is blocking Burwick's path it is the NCAA. They cite the Twitter post from the UW Athletics Dept. (see below) as "evidence" of this. At the time, I suggested that this particular post could have said (but did not) that the UW has waived any claims on Burwick's future athletic endeavors and has signed off on his transfer, etc. - but they didn't. I thought the post was a carefully worded statement that didn't come right out and say what it could have said to have made things clear. A few of the Badger faithful accused me of being obtuse and difficult. Any thoughts on this forum?

I say only half-facetiously - girls. Young boys are supremely interested in opportunities to meet young girls. If you recruit popular young ladies, e.g., cheerleaders/statisticians/trainers, etc., into situations it increase the chances of meeting and getting to know them. I am sure any number of guys might be a bit more interested in trying out for the sport if they have the additional opportunity to meet young ladies they might be interested in. The point is, the solutions to the problem are not as direct or obvious as one might think - maybe the task of recruiting popular young ladies is less complex than recruiting young boys? Well, I certainly sympathize with Burwick's situation, but we should all remember that he is the one laying out for us the "who can do what" scenario when in that very same paragraph has already told us that he did not understand the portal transfer rules and that it wasn't his responsibility. His statement might be correct, but there is good reason to not simply accept it at face value just because say's that's how it is. That said, I was very disappointed to see Burwick go - his potential and three-years left seemed like a better deal than Lamont's success and only one year left. Wished Bucky could have kept both in the room for the coming year, but...
