LEWISBURG, Pa. -- The Bucknell wrestling team won nine of 10 bouts to drop Brown, 31-3, on Sunday afternoon at Davis Gym. The Bison (4-3, 3-1 EIWA) netted bonus points in two of their individual wins, helping them score their largest margin of victory over the Bears (0-3, 0-2 EIWA) in program history. They previously downed Brown, 31-7, on Feb. 19, 2011 in Providence, R.I. Zach Hartman, who is ranked as high as 16th nationally at 165 pounds, pinned his opponent in the first period for the second-straight dual. This time, he brought Kiran Srikanth's shoulders to the mat in 1:55; during yesterday's victory over Harvard, he needed just 1:10 to pin Zeth Dean. David Campbell (141) electrified the Davis Gym crowd early in the dual, scoring a 15-6 major decision over Samuel Lynch. Campbell picked up the takedown he needed to capture bonus points for the Bison in the dying minutes of regulation; earlier in the bout, he registered a takedown and two back points in quick succession to flip a 3-1 deficit into a 5-3 advantage. Despite the lopsided score, the dual wasn't without drama. Four bouts were decided by two or fewer points, highlighted by Matthew Kolonia's last-second win over Ricky Cabanillas at 149 pounds. After Cabanillas picked up a takedown in the final 10 seconds of regulation, Kolonia was awarded a penalty point to even the score at 6-6; then, Kolonia scored a reversal with just a second left on the clock to emerge an 8-6 victor. In addition, Brandon Seidman (125) clipped Trey Keeley, 3-2, on a third-period escape while Brown's Brandon Kui edged Kyle Inlander (184), 3-1, on a last-second takedown. Returning to the heavyweight spot for the first time since the 2018-19 campaign, Brandon Stokes pulled out a gritty 3-1 decision over a much bigger James Valentino. In a bout punctuated by multiple stoppages due to Stokes's bloody nose, the Bison senior rode out Valentino for the majority of the second and third frames en route to his victory. Over the course of the dual, Bucknell's wrestlers racked up an impressive amount of riding time. Stokes (3:30) and Jaden Fisher (2:13) each exceeded two minutes of riding time while Darren Miller (1:40), Mitch Hartman (1:18) and Campbell (1:06) also earned the riding time point. The Bison continue their home stand with duals against Sacred Heart (2 p.m.) and Drexel (4 p.m.) on Sunday, Jan. 26. IOWA CITY, Iowa. -- The top-ranked University of Iowa wrestling team defeated No. 7 Nebraska, 26-6, on Saturday night in Carver-Hawkeye Arena. In its first appearance at Carver-Hawkeye Arena in seven weeks, Iowa won eight-of-10 bouts, including three-of-four top 10 matchups, to improve to 7-0 overall and 4-0 in the Big Ten. Spencer Lee opened the dual with a 18-0 technical fall at 125. He scored a takedown midway through the first, and rolled up 16 nearfall points to end the match in 2:58. "I kept my pace high," Lee said. "It is a scoring points mindset and that is all I can think about on the mat. It is not about how much time is left, maybe like it used to be. It is just about scoring points until the ref blows the whistle." Iowa won four matches to take a 14-3 lead into intermission, and came back from the break with three consecutive wins over top-five opponents. Alex Marinelli went on a second-period ride and scored four points in the final period to top No. 5 Isaiah White, 4-3, at 165. Michael Kemerer's takedown with 17 seconds on the clock was the difference in his 3-1 win over No. 6 Mikey Labriola at 174. And Abe Assad, in his Carver debut, scored takedowns in the second and third period to win by 6-4 decision over No. 5 Taylor Venz at 184. "My favorite moment from the whole match was end of the second period I got that takedown, and I had that huge mat return at the edge," Assad said. "I returned him and he just stuck to the mat and didn't move. I heard the crowd and it was awesome. There is nothing better than that. That's why you put in all those hours for in the practice room, for moments just like that." Iowa held a 13-6 advantage in takedowns and outscored the Huskers 57-27 in match points, but minus Lee's 18-0 win and Tony Cassioppi's 6-1 decision at 285, every match of the dual was decided by four points or fewer. "I think we got out strategized, we got out coached. They worked very hard and smart to keep it close, to beat us in the end," said Iowa head coach Tom Brands. "We've got to get better, too many close matches. (You) don't have to wait. Why didn't that happen in the first period? Make this fun and get a little momentum going." UP NEXT Iowa hosts No. 4 Ohio State on Friday, Jan. 24 at 8 p.m. (CT) at Carver-Hawkeye Arena. NOTABLES Iowa wrestlers have a combined record of 37-3 in Big Ten duals, and a 62-8 record overall in six duals this season. Spencer Lee (17-0), Austin DeSanto (11-0), Alex Marinelli (21-0), Abe Assad (3-0), and Tony Cassioppi (4-0) are undefeated in their careers in Big Ten duals. Spencer Lee improved to 9-0 with nine bonus-point wins. He has won his last four matches by technical fall. Spencer Lee improved to 14-0 at Carver-Hawkeye Arena. Lugo improved to 13-0 and extended his career-high win streak to 13. Alex Marinelli improved to 13-0 overall and 14-0 all-time at Carver-Hawkeye Arena. Michael Kemerer improved to 7-0 with his second straight win over a top-six opponent. Abe Assad made his Carver-Hawkeye Arena debut. Iowa has won its last 12 meetings in the series. He is now 20-0 to start the season – tied for the eighth-longest winning streak in program history. Redshirt junior Jared Hill gave the Cardinal some breathing room with a 3-2 decision over Jacob Cooper at 174 pounds. Hill gave up a takedown in the opening period, but managed to escape. He rode out Cooper in the second period to lock in riding time before notching the winning escape in the third. Oklahoma State picks up top-10 win over Pitt, Piccininni gets 100th win

STILLWATER -- The Oklahoma State Cowboys (7-1, 3-0 Big 12) picked up their first top-10 dual win of the season against the No. 10 Pittsburgh Panthers, 30-10, behind two big upsets and Nick Piccininni's 100th win Saturday evening inside Gallagher-Iba Arena. "It is special. Putting my name next to a bunch of guys before me who are legends of the sport is definitely something to be proud of," Piccininni said. "Getting 100 wins is a cool milestone to hit in the orange Oklahoma State singlet." Piccininni's 4:15 fall over Pitt's Louis Newell made him the 44th Cowboy to reach the 100-win milestone. The East Setauket, N.Y. native joined teammate Kaid Brock in the 100-win club, who was the most recent Cowboy to accomplish the feat. "He's one of those guys that you would coach forever," coach John Smith said. "It's not so much about being good but his attitude… the way he addresses practice… the way he comes in and he's a great student. I don't think in my five years coaching him I've ever had to question him about school or what's happening in school. He's just a consistent guy who has great discipline in his life. I think he's a guy who really wants his team to do well. It's his senior year. He knows our team has to fight for tough wins, and he does everything he can to start that off in the duals." Andrew Shomers earned the Cowboys' third bonus-point win of the evening when he pulled off the upset over No. 17 Gregg Harvey, 10-0. The senior outscored his opponents this weekend a combined, 21-3. In the following match, Anthony Montalvo improved his record to 13-4 on the season, taking out seventh-ranked Nino Bonaccorsi via decision, 6-4. "The bout at 174 was a really solid effort," coach John Smith said "I was surprised by that effort. Anthony at 184 was good. We saw when Montalvo went up 4-1, he did a really good job of keeping the pressure and then going back to his wrists and returning him to the mat." No. 3 Boo Lewallen notched a bonus point win in the 149-pound bout with a 19-4 tech fall over Luke Kemerer. The bonus-point victory for Lewallen was his seventh of the season as the undefeated Cowboy collected win No. 13. At 157 pounds, Wyatt Sheets held on to win a 9-8 decision against Taleb Rahmani in a wild back-and-forth match. Down a point to begin the third period, Sheets chose to start in the down position. After taking the lead with a quick reversal, Rahmani was awarded a stalling point, then escaped to take a 7-6 lead. In the final seconds, Sheets scored another takedown, and Rahmani escaped once more, but Sheets' 1:02 of riding time was the difference as the Cowboy hung on to win the decision. Also picking up decisions for the Cowboys in the dual win were Dusty Hone at 141 pounds, ninth-ranked Travis Wittlake at 165 pounds and No. 11 Dakota Geer at 197 pounds. The Pokes are back in action on the road next weekend as they head to Iowa for duals with Northern Iowa on Saturday, Jan. 25, and the Iowa State Cyclones the following day. Lehigh grinds out 23-9 win over Navy in annual Sheridan Dual
InterMat Staff posted an article in College
BETHLEHEM, Pa. -- In a dual that featured a number of close matches that were decided in the third period or later, No. 12 Lehigh picked up its seventh straight dual win, topping Navy 23-9 Saturday inside Leeman-Turner Arena at Grace Hall. The match was the 100th in what is Lehigh's second most-wrestled series, with this year's edition serving as the annual Sheridan Dual. The Mountain Hawks (8-3, 4-1 EIWA) won seven bouts, but picked up bonus points in just one, a technical fall by sophomore Josh Humphreys at 157. The victory was the 200th career dual win for Lehigh head coach Pat Santoro, who won 48 duals at Maryland and has now won 152 at Lehigh. "Most of the guys wrestled really well, but there where about three matches where I felt we were lazy on finishes and shut down," Santoro said. "We had been doing such a good job of continuing to get better, but today we didn't do some of those things right in key matches. The first four bouts of the afternoon were tight into the third period and beyond. Junior Brandon Paetzell kicked things off against Logan Treaster at 125. The bout went into the third period tied 1-1 before Paetzell went ahead on a second penalty point for stalling. Paetzell followed the stalling point with a takedown and rode out to win 5-1 with the riding time point. At 133, junior Nick Farro trailed Jacob Allen 3-2 early in the third period, but rallied behind a pair of third period takedowns to take a 6-5 lead. Allen picked up his second takedown of the match with five seconds remaining to get Navy on the board with a 7-6 decision. Senior Ryan Pomrinca and Navy's Cody Trybus engaged in the only overtime bout of the day. Pomrinca scored a takedown in the first period, while Trybus went ahead in the third with his lone takedown. A Pomrinca escape sent the bout to sudden victory tied 4-4. With Pomrinca being selective about his shots, he finally pulled the trigger late and secured the winning takedown with 12 seconds remaining to win 6-4 and put Lehigh back in front 6-3. "Ryan's really good," Santoro said. "He took two shots and scored two takedowns. He just needs to pull the trigger more so he can open matches up. You don't want to lose a match on a stall call in overtime. He ended up finding a way to win and that was big for him." Sophomore Dan Moran bumped up to 149 to face Wyatt Long. Moran gave up an early takedown but stayed on the attack through most of the match although he was unable to convert. Down 3-2 in the third, Moran finally secured a takedown and added a four-point near fall late to win 8-3. "Danny just wrestles hard for seven minutes," Santoro said. "He kept wearing him down and finally hit that shot and put him on his back to finish the match, which was awesome." Humphreys made it four straight wins for Lehigh and gave the Mountain Hawks a 14-3 lead at intermission with a 17-2 technical fall over Jack Stanton-Taddeo at 157. Humphreys scored three first period takedowns, added a takedown and four point near fall in the second, and closed out the match at 5:26 with another four point near fall. Navy (4-4, 1-1 EIWA) picked up its second win as eighth-ranked Tanner Skidgel beat freshman Brian Meyer 2-0 at 165. Skidgel rode out the second and escaped in the third for the only scoring of the bout. Senior Jordan Kutler bested Spencer Carey in a matchup of top 20 grapplers at 174, scoring takedowns in the first and third periods in a 5-1 decision. Sophomore Eli Grape made his dual debut at 184 in place of Chris Weiler and clinched the dual for the Mountain Hawks with a 9-5 decision over Hunter Johns. Grape scored takedowns in each of the first two periods plus a reversal and takedown in the third to put Lehigh up 20-6 with two bouts remaining. The Midshipmen picked up their third win at 197 as Jacob Koser won a 6-5 decision over junior Jake Jakobsen. Koser won a scramble for a takedown in the first period and used a cradle to turn Jakobsen for four points to lead 6-0 after one. Jakobsen rode out the second and turned Koser for four, but could not secure the necessary takedown in the third period. Junior Jordan Wood capped the dual with a 4-1 decision over John Birchmeier at 285. Lehigh has now won nine straight duals to take a 53-47 lead in the all-time series. "We have almost two weeks until our next dual," Santoro said. "We'll give the guys a few days off. We have to be able to fight through some of those mental mistakes we had today." The Mountain Hawks will be off next weekend and will return to action on Friday, January 31 when they battle No. 20 Army West Point in a match that will be held at West Orange High School in N.J. The 20th-ranked Black Knights moved their Senior Night dual to West Orange to honor late wrestler C.J. Morgan, an alumnus of West Orange High School, who passed away last summer due to injuries sustained from a military vehicle accident in the U.S. Military Academy's training area. The match is slated for a 7 p.m. start. The 2019-20 Lehigh wrestling season is presented by the Historic Hotel Bethlehem. Results: 125 – Brandon Paetzell (Lehigh) dec. Zahid Valencia gets his hand raised after beating Alex Dieringer to win the Matteo Pellicone (Photo/Kadir Caliskan, United World Wrestling) The Matteo Pellicone more than lived up to the hype. The important rankings event for United World Wrestling figured to be loaded with top-flight competition as we move closer to the 2020 Olympic Games. And it was. The powerful United States men's freestyle team had an excellent showing with six wrestlers reaching the finals in Rome, Italy. Three Americans won gold Saturday on the final day of the tournament. Here are my top takeaways from the competition at the event: Got doubles? Another Jordan does American legend Jordan Burroughs isn't the only wrestler named Jordan with a lethal double leg takedown arsenal. Jordan Oliver put on an impressive double leg display in Rome. Oliver has looked very dominant this season. The past Junior world medalist still hasn't broken through at the Senior level, but this may be his year. Oliver took an early finals lead before dropping a hard-fought match to three-time world medalist Bajrang of India. Even with the setback, Oliver had a tremendous tournament and he is wrestling at a very high level. He is definitely capable of winning an Olympic medal in Tokyo. He's that good. Before that happens, the United States still has to qualify the 65-kilogram weight class for the Olympic Games. The battle is on at 57 kilograms The wide-open battle everyone expected at 57 kilograms is already providing its share of exciting matches and compelling storylines. 2017 world silver medalist Thomas Gilman edged 2019 world teamer Daton Fix 2-1 in the semifinals before earning a gritty 4-3 triumph over 2018 world bronze medalist Joe Colon in the finals. This weight class also features age-group world champ Spencer Lee, who looked outstanding in winning the U.S. Senior Nationals last month. This is another weight that needs to be qualified for the Olympics. Kyle Dake gets in on a shot against Turkey's Soner Demirtas (Photo/Kadir Caliskan, United World Wrestling) Dake down a weight, looking great Two-time world champion Kyle Dake has dropped down to 74 kilograms for the first time since 2017 and he looked fantastic in Italy. He's the master at staying in excellent position and wrestled with so much poise and composure. He's also very strong and extremely tough to score on. And he's explosive as he proved in earning a 35-second technical superiority finals win. It's going to be an epic battle between Dake and Jordan Burroughs for the Olympic spot. What's up with Snyder? Kyle Snyder is still wrestling at a high level, but his loss by fall to world bronze medalist Mohammad Mohammadian of Iran has raised a few questions. Snyder, now training at Penn State, won silver and bronze at the World Championships the past two years after winning three straight golds. He's still an excellent wrestler, but are other wrestlers figuring out his style or has he faded a bit? I definitely wouldn't count Snyder out at 97 kilograms in 2020. Zahid and Ringer The 86-kilogram class is also intriguing with 2018 world champion David Taylor still the favorite. But young studs Zahid Valencia and Alex Dieringer are looking strong as well. Valencia beat a world silver medalist en route to the Pellicone finals and Dieringer beat 2019 world teamer Pat Downey. Valencia, a senior at Arizona State, came out strong before holding off Dieringer in the finals. Downey came back to earn bronze in Rome. This is another weight class that still needs to be qualified for Tokyo. Mensah-Stock will be back Reigning world champion Tamyra Mensah-Stock was cruising toward a win over two-time world medalist Feng Zhou of China before disaster struck. Mensah-Stock led 8-0 before being taken down and turned three times. The match ended 8-8 and she lost on criteria. Mensah-Stock is still young and she will learn from this loss. She's an incredible wrestler who is still the favorite to win Olympic gold. She will bounce back. Sarah's move to 50 kilograms World silver medalist Sarah Hildebrandt has dropped down to 50 kilos after previously wrestling at 53 kilograms. Hildebrandt looked superb in Italy, winning a tough class that included world fifth-place finisher Victoria Anthony of the USA. The 50-kilogram weight still needs to be qualified for the Olympics. Greco grabs medals The USA Greco-Roman team won a pair of medals in Rome, but the Americans still have plenty of work to do. The Greco team still needs to qualify all six weight classes for Tokyo. It's a realistic goal, but it won't be easy. The Americans have their share of capable athletes.

LEWISBURG, Pa. -- A late surge propelled the Bucknell wrestling team to a 26-12 victory over Harvard on Saturday afternoon at Davis Gym. The Bison (3-3, 2-1 EIWA) took four of the final five bouts, scoring bonus points in each, to down the Crimson (1-4, 1-1 EIWA). Zach Hartman, who is ranked as high as 16th nationally at 165 pounds, kicked off the run with a first-period pin; Mitch Hartman (174) and Kyle Inlander (184) followed with commanding major decisions that put the dual out of Harvard's reach. Drew Phipps (197) capped Bucknell's dual-deciding run with a win by forfeit. Heavyweight Eric Chakonis gave Yaraslau Slavikouski, Intermat's 10th-ranked wrestler, a battle but ultimately ceded a tight 4-3 decision to cap the dual. Z. Hartman's team-leading sixth pin of the season came in just 1:10. He and Phipps both improved to an impressive 17-6 on the season with their victories. M. Hartman and Inlander both impressed in their routs. M. Hartman was a 16-5 victor over Pierce Bausano, racking up an impressive 5:21 of riding time in the process. Not to be outdone, Inlander blanked Michael Doggett, 8-0; he secured the point he needed to pick up a major decision by accumulating 3:05 of riding time. At the dual's halfway point, the Crimson held a slight 9-6 edge. The teams swapped decisions at the lighter weights, with Darren Miller (133) and Matthew Kolonia (149) accounting for Bucknell's wins. Miller looked strong in his 8-2 decision over Michael Jaffee; the freshman totaled 3:25 of riding time. FAIRFAX, Va. -- The Lock Haven University wrestling team (6-4, 2-2 MAC East) got off to a quick start, winning the first three bouts of the dual and Bald Eagle' bonus points were a big part of the story throughout as LHU bounced back in a big way, downing host George Mason (7-4, 2-1 MAC East), 25-17. Lock Haven won six of 10 bouts and five of those wins came by way of bonus points. LHU recorded two tech falls and three major decisions. The Bald Eagles won the first three bouts of the meet with those wins coming by way of two techs and a major as the visitors jumped all over GMU from the start. Today's dual at GMU marked LHU's third road match in as many days. With the win, Lock Haven moved to 6-4 overall and back to .500 (2-2) in Mid-American Conference (MAC) Eastern Division action. No. 15 Luke Werner (Bethlehem, Pa./Liberty), No. 29 DJ Fehlman (Warren, Pa./Warren), No. 19 Kyle Shoop (Boiling Springs, Pa./Boiling Springs), Austin Bell (Belle Vernon, Pa./Belle Vernon), No. 31 Jared Siegrist (Manheim, Pa./Manheim Central) and Parker McClellan (Altoona, Pa./Altoona) were winners for Lock Haven. Werner (125) and Shoop (141) recorded tech falls, while Fehlman (133), Bell (165) and McClellan (197) won by major decision. Werner got things rolling from the start and the nation's 15th ranked 125-pounder picked up a 16-1 tech fall over Talha Farooq. The win put Lock Haven up 5-0 early and helped Werner cap a perfect 3-0 road trip. Fehlman – ranked No. 29 at 133 – dominated Josh Jones on the way to a lopsided 12-0 major decision. At 141, it was a top-30 battle and Shoop flexed his muscle. The nation's 19th ranked wrestler took down No. 28 Alex Madirgal in dominating fashion. Shoop picked up a 15-0 tech fall and helped Lock Haven extend the lead to 14-0. LHU's all-time leader in career techs, it was Shoop's fourth tech fall this season. He now has 122 career wins, one win away from tying him for the No. 3 spot on school's career-win list. The hosts posted back-to-back wins at 149 and 157, including a pin at 157, which tightened the team score to 14-10 in Lock Haven's favor after the first five bouts of the dual. No. 2 Blair Academy wins home clash with No. 1 Wyoming Seminary
InterMat Staff posted an article in High School
BLAIRSTOWN, N.J. -- On the Friday of the Martin Luther King, Jr. holiday weekend, No. 1 Wyoming Seminary (Pa.) made the trip to face No. 2 Blair Academy (N.J.). In the annual showdown of National Prep powers, the host Buccaneers won eight of 14 bouts to upend the nation's top team 31-24. The Blue Knights had ascended to the top position of the Fab 50 national team rankings after out-pointing Blair Academy at the Walsh Ironman five weeks ago. Wyoming Seminary was without the services of national No. 1 Nic Bouzakis (126) on Friday night, while national-caliber heavyweight wrestler Jacob Kaminski has yet wrestle this season. Absent for Blair Academy was No. 7 Domonic Mata (170), who has not competed since the Beast of the East for the Buccaneers. The dual meet started at the traditional opening weight class, 106 pounds. It was a head-on battle of nationally ranked wrestlers, the first of five such matches on the evening. No. 2 Marc-Anthony McGowan secured an 8-5 win over No. 11 Brandon Cannon to give Blair Academy the opening 3-0 lead in the dual meet. However, by night's end, Wyoming Seminary won three of the five matches where ranked wrestlers faced one another. The first of four lead changes came in the next match, as No. 20 Brennen Cernus pinned Mason Stefanelli in 5:18, which gave the Blue Knights a 6-3 lead. The third match of the night yielded the second lead change, Blair Academy's Ryan Miller -- ranked No. 12 nationally -- secured the 11-3 major decision over Gregor McNeil to push the Buccaneers to a 7-6 lead in the dual meet. Consecutive bonus points for nationally ranked Blair Academy wrestlers extended the lead to 17-6 through five bouts: No. 4 Trevor Mastrogiovanni pinned Mark Botello in 2:53 at 126 pounds, as Bouzakis was not available, while No. 1 Shayne van Ness secured the 19-5 major decision over No. 11 Drew Munch at 132. The next turn in the dual meet saw Wyoming Seminary win four consecutive matches, starting with a pin from No. 1 Beau Bartlett in 2:33 at 138 against Louis Colaiocco as the Buccaneers would bump starters to cover the next four weight classes in the absence of Mata. No. 1 Lachlan McNeil upended No. 14 (at 138) Lucas Chittum 6-3 at 145, two-time National Prep champion Connor Kievman beat freshman Lorenzo Norman 8-4 at 152, and finally No. 14 Gabe Arnold (only a freshman) knocked off No. 3 (at 152) Travis Mastrogiovanni 6-2 in the tiebreaker at 160. With five matches left in the dual meet, the No. 1 team in the country had a 21-17 lead, with Blair Academy needing to turn it around. It happened in a battle of nationally elite sophomores as Cadet National freestyle champion Thomas Stewart knocked off Andrew Donahue 5-4. The second of three consecutive wins gave the Buccaneers a lead that would stand for the rest of the evening, as No. 8 Rylan Rogers upended Cole Rees 3-0 at 182 pounds; then it was No. 9 Peyton Craft earning a 16-1 technical fall over Wolfgang Frable at 195 pounds to give Blair Academy a 28-21 lead with two matches remaining. In the penultimate match, Wyoming Seminary gave themselves a chance to win the dual meet, as No. 10 Kolby Franklin beat No. 12 Noah Pettigrew for the second time on the season, 6-4 in a showdown of elite sophomores. It came down to a winner-take-most match; Eli Anthony upended Nate Miller 5-0 to push the final score to 31-24 for No. 2 Blair Academy. -
FRESNO, Calif. -- The Fresno State wrestling team tallied wins in seven matches on its way to a 34-7 win over Duke on Friday evening at the Save Mart Center. Fresno State (7-5) got technical fall victories from redshirt freshman Hunter Cruz at 184 pounds and senior Josh Hokit at heavyweight while getting decisions from redshirt sophomore Beau Colombini at 157 pounds and redshirt freshman Isaiah Perez at 197 pounds. Duke (0-8) tallied a pair of victories at 133 pounds and 174 pounds while the 'Dogs claimed forfeit wins at 141, 149 and 165 pounds. A double forfeit at 125 pounds saw no team points awarded to either team. How It Happened With the dual starting at 157 pounds, Colombini got the 'Dogs rolling with a 5-3 win over the Blue Devils' Eric Carter using a pair of takedowns and an illegal hold for his five points while limiting Carter to three escapes. Redshirt freshman Adam Kemp drew a forfeit for the Bulldogs at 165 pounds to put Fresno State ahead 9-0 as the Blue Devils were able to pick up the first of their two wins at 174 pounds. Mason Eaglin defeated the 'Dogs Jackson Hemauer, ranked as high as No. 13 by Trackwrestling, 12-5 in Hemauer's first match since Dec. 7 at the Cliff Keen Las Vegas Invite. Hemauer took a 5-2 lead after a quick escape to start the second period, but it was all Eaglin from there as the Blue Devil redshirt freshman scored the final 10 points of the match to cut the 'Dogs lead to 9-3. Cruz quickly got the 'Dogs back on the winning track with a 15-0 technical fall over Kai Blake in 4:28 building a 8-0 lead after the first period and added an escape, takedown and four-point near fall for his second technical fall of the season. Perez followed with an 8-2 victory over Vincent Baker at 197 pounds tallying three takedowns, an escape and a riding time point to put the 'Dogs up 17-3. STILLWATER -- The ninth-ranked Oklahoma State wrestling team (6-1, 3-0 Big 12) notched seven bonus-point wins over West Virginia to knock off a third consecutive conference opponent, 37-9, inside Gallagher-Iba Arena on Friday evening. "I thought we looked pretty good overall," coach John Smith said. "We didn't focus on riding time that much, it just materialized that way. Overall, it was a pretty good effort. We did a good job with our takedowns and our riding. Tomorrow we are going to need all that plus some." Boo Lewallen and Anthony Montalvo led the way, both scoring falls for the Pokes in the dual. The two Cowboys picked up fall No. 2 on the season in the first period of their matches. For Montalvo, the 2:30 pin marked his first inside Gallagher-Iba. "Anthony did a good job," Smith said. "He stayed hungry with the over bar and running the chicken wing. You love the pins. Those bonus points are big." Senior Nick Piccininni and Reese Witcraft got the dual underway with a horde of scoring in back-to-back technical falls. Piccininni took out West Virginia's Joey Thomas in one period with a takedown and four straight turns. It took Witcraft just more than five and half minutes to top Lucas Seibert, 17-1. TEMPE, Ariz. -- The No. 4 Arizona State wrestling team (9-1, 1-0 Pac-12) opened conference competition with a 26-12 victory over the Oregon State Beavers (4-2, 0-1) Friday night at Desert Financial Arena in the Beauty and the Beast meet with the Sun Devil gymnastics team. The victory was ASU's ninth of the year and marked the programs first 9-1 start since 1990. No. 12 Brandon Courtney (125) got things started off for ASU with a 14-8 decision over Oregon State's Brandon Kaylor. The Beavers won the next three individual bouts to take a 9-3 lead in the dual. No. 22 Jacori Teemer (157) pinned his opponent in just 42 seconds, good enough for his first pin of his Sun Devil career and the fastest fall by an ASU wrestler this season. Teemer's win was enough to even things out in the dual at 9-9 and return momentum in ASU's favor heading into intermission. No. 6 Josh Shields (165) followed up with a 6-point win of his own, pinning his opponent in 3:46 to see the Sun Devils pull ahead, 15-9. It was the 12th career pin and second this season for Shields. No. 8 Anthony Valencia (174) earned his seventh bonus-point win of the season with a 20-4 tech fall over Jason McKinney. After dropping the bout at 184 lbs., No. 16 Kordell Norfrleet (197) and No. 4 Tanner Hall (HWT) earned consecutive decision victories to round out the night's action. The Sun Devils won six of the night's ten individual bouts, with three wins coming by bonus points. MADISON, Wis. -- The No. 4 Ohio State University wrestling team (6-1, 2-0 B1G) made good on an 8-hour trek to Cheese Country, grating the 8th-ranked Badgers of Wisconsin (8-3, 1-3 B1G) in a top-10 tilt. The Buckeyes won six of 10 bouts to snag a 24-13 victory. Four Buckeyes earned bonus points, including back-to-back tech falls at 184 and 197 pounds by Rocky Jordan and Kollin Moore, respectively, which clinched the team triumph. Additional Ohio State victors were Luke Pletcher and Sammy Sasso majoring their adversaries while Elijah Cleary and Kaleb Romero notched decisions. Moore's 21-3 blistering of Peter Christensen not only sealed the dual win, but also represented the 100th win of his career. Pletcher is hot on his heels, reaching 99 career wins Friday night in Madison. It was no ordinary win for Pletcher though. He blasted fourth-ranked and reigning Big Ten Wrestler of the Week, Tristan Moran, in an 11-3 major decision. Pletcher is now 9-0 vs. top-25 opponents this season with a +69 point differential (+7.67 per bout average). Sasso also topped a nationally ranked foe in impressive fashion. After narrowly missing out on a first-period fall, he fired off a late shot and found pay dirt to complete the 12-3 major decision over No. 13 Cole Martin. Cleary took the mat next and attacked right off the whistle for a lightning quick takedown. He would add another takedown and reversal for the 7-3 decision increasing Ohio State's bout winning streak to three in a row. Following a tight 7-4 loss at 165 pounds in which Ethan Smith recorded the bout's first takedown, Romero got the Buckeyes back on track at 174 pounds. He came away as a 7-3 victor and then handed the baton to Jordan. Jordan wiped the mat with Tyler Dow, 20-2, for his 21st win of the season. The final result at 133 pounds was not what Jordan Decatur was hoping for, but three takedowns on the former NCAA champion and currently top-ranked Seth Gross is nothing to sneeze at for the Buckeye true freshman.
