Stalling proposal

Here's an idea to deal with the problem of stalling in college wrestling.

Period 1 - if after 1 minute there is no score, a double stall is called.  If after 2 minutes there's still no score another double stall is called and both wrestlers get a point.

Now for the rest of the match any stall call results in 1 point for the other wrestler.

Period 2 - if after 1 minute top man has not scored or pinned his opponent and  continues to ride he is called for stalling.

Period 3 - if after 1 minute top man has not scored or pinned his opponent and  continues to ride he is called for stalling.

This may seem excessive but the major complaint seems to be the ref not calling stalling frequently enough, so this solves the problem by putting in 4 mandated stall calls based on set points in the match.  This also means subsequent discretionary stall calls result in points.

Your problem is listening to fans on the bulleting boards. Stop doing that.

I think refs generally handle it well when there is no scoring on feet. Typically they let them go when both are active or give a warning to the less aggressive wrestler.

Here's a suggested tweak to the 1 minute of riding with no scoring: both wrestlers back to their feet, no warning/no escape point. Bottom man gets out of suffocating ride and gets opportunity to get a takedown, and top man can score again without giving up an escape point. Moves folkstyle a little closer to freestyle, and reduces non-productive riding.

Actually not a bad idea… I would modify the neutral proposal to be one wrestler has to be called for stalling and the ref has to decide who earned it. A double stall provides little incentive. Maybe the top/bottom one should be either or too so the bottom guy doesn’t just lay there? I’m afraid they would always call it on the bottom guy though
