After a seventh round of voting, the House failed once again to elect a speaker.

The vote totals for the seventh round:

  • Hakeem Jeffries – 212
  • Kevin McCarthy – 201
  • Byron Donalds – 19
  • Other – 1
  • Present – 1

Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-FL) voted for Donald Trump.

Despite a long night of making concessions to the 20 holdouts, McCarthy made absolutely no progress.

Elect some clowns, expect a circus.

Pelosi governed for two years with exactly the same majority.

Just sayin'

I wanna see the democrats all pull a fast one and vote for Byron Donalds. For two reasons, to be the adults in the situation and to screw with the other Republicans.

Well, with the threshold for a motion to vacate the chair set to 1, his speakership will be measured in milli-Scaramuccis.

After an eighth round of voting, the House failed once again to elect a speaker.

The vote totals for the eighth round:

Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-FL) voted for Donald Trump. Rep. Lauren Boebert (R-CO) and Rep-elect Josh Brecheen (R-OK) voted for Rep. Kevin Hern (R-OK).

Once again, McCarthy made absolutely no progress. The only good news for McCarthy is that there is still no serious alternative yet.

The Rs are really showering themselves in glory with this whole thing, which Kevin McCarthy decides how much of his dignity is worth sacrificing to be Speaker of the Bouse for about 5 minutes.  Yikes. I did not realize how much of chaos monsters Gaetz et al really were.sue makes stuff GIF

So sad.   None of these people are rookies and they aren't even championing an alternative.  This is a direct consequence of electing idiots.  They are incapable of offering anything meaningful, so they make a spectacle to appear useful.

The even sadder thing is that this works very well for them and makes them rich powerful men and women.

Any liberal could say the same if they fear an R House.   They should be just as happy with nothing happening.   In actual fact, nothing much will happen because Congress is divided and therefore only the matters of utmost urgency will get addressed.

Well, nothing at all happens until there's a speaker elected.
