This is huge. Choosing wrestling over football is a big deal.

Thought he was chosing over deadlifting with the focus.

Somewhat surprised the football coaches would let him spend a year of eligibility (his football redshirt was taken last year) on wrestling...he is a football counter, after all. (by rule)

i don't understand what you're referring to.

Maybe they are anticipating the removal of scholarship limits, but the imposition of roster limits, and thinking of it as a way to park an athlete off roster?

Drowning in data, but thirsting for knowledge

When do scholarship limits disappear?  Prob not yet determined?  They are on the way out as of the latest court ruling.

He counts against the limit of football scholarships.

I understood that, but presumed once he quit  football, wrestling is paying the bill, and in that light i don't know why you would say they "let him take a year of eligibility on wrestling".

I'm sure he won't be on a football scholarship next year.

But that gives him only three more football seasons.

he's not gonna have any more. saying he'll be there next spring is just being nice.

Why do you think that? He was a 4* recruit just 12 months ago. Not playing in his true freshman year doesn't mean anything.  Maybe he's a bit behind where they thought he was, but I doubt they'd give up on him after one season.

i don't think they would either, they also care way less because if he comes back it won't take him long to get back in football shape and they have like 90 full scholarships. Two of his justifications (the three being winning a u20 world, ncaa and team ncaa title) have nothing to do with him quitting football, unless he's going all in on wrestling.

Or maybe after a year in the wrestling room he heads into spring football practice in the best shape of his life (or maybe with a headwrap and limp, who knows), right before pay for play kicks in for Fall '25 💰

Or maybe if he does well 24/25 he gets a big NIL deal at PSU for 25/26.  💰 💰

So he's gonna take the wrestling scholarship, and then switch back when he can tap into the football money, which is limited next year compared to 25'? I'm not arguing, just trying to get a perspective.

Sure I'd be entertained to hear his explanation.  🙂

I hate to be that guy but his "choice" probably came from a heart to heart with Ferentz. Not in the plans.

It's not 100% but after a season they probably fell like they know what they have in him.

The penn state wrestling room is first and foremost a place of god(they're purging the undesirable elements deep into the midwest), and second and secondmost a place of fun. Kueter is certinaly a generational talent and will radically inflate the reputation of any program he's associated with, but he's a dodgeball liability and doesn't know his way around a bouncy castle. We'll take a Nevills before him!

You haven't fooled us, we know the difference between a new-forum TBar and an '82 Bordeaux, and our boy Hamms is the only one who spells asinine with a double S! 😂
