OTT Challenge Tournament Seeds - Prediction Thread

Now that we know the entire field and who will be competing where, in respects to byes to the semi-finals, how do we think seeds will play out?

Nomad had gone in to great detail, mind you with obviously opinionated picks as to how he thinks they should go, but how do we think they're going to go?

Here are who is qualified as of now, with their 'projected' weights... I have taken the liberty of putting who I think will NOT show up in italics.

Some thing to consider with this is that once you are qualified, you are qualified.  There is no stipulation as to what weight you can wrestle once you are qualified.  Meaning Daton Fix could go 65 KG or Aaron Brooks could go 97 KG.

The stipulations are only with the 'byes' that are earned.  For example, a bye to the best-of-three finals is stipulated upon you having earned a medal at that Olympic weight the year prior.  A bye to the bottom semi-finals is stipulated that you earned a medal  at an adjacent weight the year prior (technically Snyder could have gone 125 KG if he chose, with a bye to the bottom semi-finals).  The guys waiting in the best-of-three finals and the bye to the semi-finals gents are locked in as of now, though, as they had to declare their intentions by the end of last month.

86 KG seems pretty straightforward for me...

1 - Aaron Brooks

2 - Trent Hidlay

3 - Alex Dieringer

4 - Mark Hall

5 - Chance Marsteller

The Hidlay - Dieringer (or Dean) winner will have wrestled twice (Keckeisen or Wick will have wrestled three times) before seeing Valencia in the semi-finals on the bottom side.

Because there is no actual criteria for seeding this year, I do think that if Blue Dragons Jr shows up he is slotted in at #11.  They won't even try to seed him even if he says he will be there for pre-seeding purposes.

I think 97 KG has a few different routes it could go, insofar as scenarios...

1 - J’den Cox

2 - Michael Macchiavello

3 - Kollin Moore

4 - Nathan Jackson

5 - Jay Aiello

6 - Isaac Trumble

7 - Eric Schulz

8 - Anthony Cassioppi

9 - Christian Carroll

I think they reward Macch for him having the last win in the series.  Aiello has kind of had the upper hand with Trumble in their series rather recently, but I could see them rewarded Trumble for his U23 Gold as well as outplacing Macchiavello at a tourney this year (he beat the guy who eliminated Macchiavello at that as well).

In that scenario I would think it ends up being Moore at the 2, Trumble at the 3, Macchiavello at the 4 and Jackson at the 5 - which would look like this...

2 - Kollin Moore

3 - Isaac Trumble

4 - Michael Macchiavello

5 - Nathan Jackson

6 - Jay Aiello

I could see them swapping Cassioppi and Carroll based on PIN(?) or w/e but I don't expect it and it wouldn't matter.

The Hidlay - Dieringer (or Dean) winner will have wrestled twice (Keckeisen or Wick will have wrestled three times) before seeing Valencia in the semi-finals on the bottom side.

Because there is no actual criteria for seeding this year, I do think that if Blue Dragons Jr shows up he is slotted in at #11.  They won't even try to seed him even if he says he will be there for pre-seeding purposes.

I could see a case for Yianni down at the 5 and everyone up a little, but I do not think the committee allows Yianni to fall that low.  I could also see a case where Nahshon drops down below Pantaleo as well, but he is like 25-0 against Gross all-time...

Henson is hard to place.  I also believe I heard rumblings that he was injured prior to NCAAs as well and a decent doesn't bode well for that (ahem Starocci...)...

Do you mean Hidlay - Dieringer - Hall in that order?

I think just with them going that order of finish end of last year it makes sense.  I know Hidlay is like 0-8 against Hall this cycle, but he won the tournament that Hall placed 3rd at in the Bill Farrell in a bruising sort of manner.  Then Hall proceeded to lose at Senior Nationals to Dieringer in pretty dominant fashion.  I think the committee will favor recency bias on this one.  You can't put Dieringer over Hidlay and you can't put Hall over Dieringer.  It just so happens that those results happened pretty recent.

Edit: NVM, I see you meant Chance Marstellar... I am an idiot.  He outplaced Dean at that same tournament that he took Bronze at.  Pretty easy there.  I don't think you can move him ahead of Hall.  Not sure the groundwork at 86 KG is there.

I could see Starocci above Carr, I could also see Mesenbrink above Carr.  Cenzo could be as high as 6 and and as low as 10 (I don't see him being below Berger).  Jacques could be dropped below Haines.  Shapiro does have a world medal and Haines does not, but Haines just dominated the weight at NCAAs that Shapiro placed 3rd in.

Keep in mind there isn't an actual criteria now, but many factors will be considered.

Blaze did beat Forrest, while it was Folkstyle - it did happen.  Figs just won natties and I think he will be given decent credit for that (even if it was Folkstyle it is a qualifying tournament).  Figs in the 10-12 range as well, fwiw.

I could see them putting Spencer ahead of Fix based on Spencer being active on the circuit, but Fix has been our guy at 57 KG before - Spencer has not.

I think the committee will respect that Megaludis has had two times to beat Spencer in the last six months and got beaten soundly both times, so they'll opt for a different (potential) QF.

Shapiro is the biggest wildcard to me. If you look at strictly freestyle he has a cadet and junior gold. If you look at the NCAA season he has to be behind Haines. I'm super curious as to what they do with him.
