Austin Gomez

Recommended Posts

Just beat Nick Lee qualifying his weight for Paris 2024. For me, this makes 149 NCAAs even more exciting because I’ve always admired his tenacity and personal story.

Super excited for Austin, pretty remarkable journey he's had from retiring and falling out of love with wrestling 3-4 years ago to now an Olympian.

Just hope that knee is ok for the postseason. Didn't seem to affect his wrestling too much, though he did grimace several times standing up and was limping a bit - despite what the "fake injury" twitter fans want to say.

Gomez is a wild card because he often  tries to force big moves and gets himself in trouble. But when he is on and not wresckless, it won’t be a surprise if he wins it all.

Gomez is definitely capable of winning it all.  Just go back and watch what he did to Yianni in the dual meet.  Yianni had only one other loss in college and it wasn't like that one.  Gomez outwrestled him for 7 minutes in every position.  Of course he is also capable of wrestling like he did against Ridge Lovett a few weeks ago. It will be interesting to see which Auatin shows up.

Lovett match from a few weeks ago is a good example. Last year at NCAAs against Parco is another. He tried to force a move right at the end of the period when he was either up or had choice. Got put to his back and spent the rest of the match taking risks to catch up.

I remember that match. Gomez whipped up on Yianni.
