Gable at Olympic Trials

Recommended Posts

I noticed Gable Steveson has scrubbed WWE from his social media and has been seen in wrestling rooms recently. Any chance he is gearing up to compete at Olympic trials and go for another gold?

Interesting. The WWE did not seem to be going that well for him. I know he is a different level talent, but I always wonder what not wrestling does for one's wrestling.

Drowning in data, but thirsting for knowledge

I think hed likely still be our rep however I dont think he can compete with zare only training a little bit the past two years when zare has a guy like masoumi pushing him for his own team spot.

He has the ropes whip down now, but that won't help him much.    He could do a pile driver but would probably get DQd doing that.  And flying off the post is just not going to happen.    I assume that was the repertoire you were talking about.

I sure hope so for the sport/Team USA's sake

If he goes, I would hope he makes a firm commitment to compete at Olys.  I would hate to see him win the spot and then back out again.

I am tired of the will he/won't he drama.  Hope the man figures outs what he wants to do with his life and pursues it 100%, whether its wrestling or WWE.

Yeah, but neither of them have Paul Heyman in their corner.

Agree that the will he won’t he drama has become a bit tiresome. Still, I’d be thrilled to see him back. He has mentioned numerous times how he wanted to get another Olympic gold, would hate to see unrelated business obligations get in the way.

He knows what kind of prep work he needs to do.   Full time job.   Starting now.   He barely squeaked to Gold last time.  He needs to be better than that to ensure success.

On the other hand, what if Gable’s experience gives him a greater repertoire?

Yo, this might actually be a thing.  Nobody has ever claimed that professional wrestling prep is an easy out.

  • I would like to see him compete again.
  • He has a major advantage against the competition, "been there, done that".  I don't see him losing, the spot is his if he is in shape.

Here's hoping.  Insert praying hands emoji.

I don’t see any actual chatter that he’s gone from the WWE?  Usually media outlets pick up on stuff like that if his social media has actually been scrubbed.

In fact most of the recent conversation seems to be bringing him up because some female wrestler also got booed.  And here’s an “article” from just a few days ago recapping Steveson’s match, they mention they think he’s a “lost cause,” but nothing about him maybe already being gone.

He won't do it.

He is very good but lightning won't strike twice. He knows it which is why he did not show up at Worlds after his last second miracle in the Olympic Games.

Betting against him in a match would be silly, with a proper training cycle. Betting against him showing up would be reasonable.

If Gable started camp today, and trained for a full "season" leading up to Paris, he is an olympic finalist if not champion again no problem.

Nobody at Heavyweight has ever brought what he is physically capable of.

Parris is a legit bronze medalist, and he looks like he has never wrestled before when he is out on the mat against Gable.

It's the old brutal reality that there are levels to this thing, even at the highest echelons.  Gable occupies the very highest of them.

And...he hasn't beaten himself up chasing world medals. I'm DEFINITELY not saying he hasn't accrued injuries through WWE, but they are different.

If he wanted to, he could be in an olympic final this summer.
