Missouri - J'Den Cox (more NCAA titles and world gold's, Olympic bronze) or Sammie Henson (only in the convo because of Olympic silver).

Henson was a phenomenal high school wrestler.  He should be in conversation.  3X NCAA Champ?  Not sure.

Sammie was a 2 time NCAA champ. Internationally in addition to the Olympic silver, he was also world champ one year and won bronze another.

I hear that Cael Sanderson guy was pretty good wrestler, HS level in Utah, and held his own collegiately and Internationally.

Do we need another topic concerning "Best coach from each state?"

Could even be broken down categories: HS, College, International, or combination of all.

Currently? College or High School?  PA

All time high school-Carry Kolat

All time college- Carlton Haselrig, Zane Rutherford, Wade Schalles, Jason Nolf, Ty Moore, Spencer Lee,  I could go on and on, tough to single one out.

Current college- Carter Starocci, Levi Haynes

Current high school-Bo Basset?

kind of surprised Ty Moore made your list for all-time college. Phenomenal HS career but never AAd in college. RIP Ty Moore.

Fellow Jersey native here.  Maybe it is recency bias here but I think I would throw Suriano into the discussion if we are speaking from a high school/college standpoint.  If we are speaking on international accolades though, I think we can just disregard this comment for now.

I originally had an extra sentence in there about why I didn’t put Suriano in there for that exact reason. But you’re absolutely right. If we just look High School and college, I think he definitely takes it.

And he would quite possible be even more in the conversation if PSU, Okie State and Cornell hadn’t teamed up to put some covid in his water bottle before the olympic trials.

New Yorkers always forget they have the Banach brothers.

They do? ALL New Yorkers? I chose what came to MY mind and you can choose what comes to yours. See how a free country works!

Indiana is not a premier state, and some of its best wrestlers have competed in other states for high school. But it’s produced some elite wrestlers anyway.

Not sure who the best is, but some of the best are Micic (world champ), Escobedo, Howe, Nick Lee, and Parris.

Steveson lived in Indiana for a while but it doesn’t really count.

Hildebrandt is the best women’s wrestler.

Can we get a definition of "your state?"  Perhaps it should be something like a state in which you currently pay taxes.

We also need a definition for "wrestler's state."  Perhaps again something like a state in which parents paid taxes (or the most taxes) while said wrestler was in high school.

I thought Swain was from Spokane. Hamlin with the best nickname award: The Vermontser!

You're absolutely right.  I guess I always associated Vision Quest with Oregon wrestling for some reason.

Who would it be for New Jersey? Jordan Burroughs right?

Depends how we want to define "best ever".  College, absolutely not (Mike Caruso 3 timer) (Mocco 2x champ 4x finalist).  International you can definitely argue he has a slight edge over Bruce with more titles even though Bruce has more medals (only counting Olympics/Worlds)

Sammy lost to the Purler brothers (Tony and Nick) every time they wrestled in high school.  Wentzville school (Purlers) was in a different class from Francis Howell (Henson), otherwise Sammy might have never won a state championship in high school.  Reason I have both Nick and Tony listed is because they alternated who wrestled Henson through out high school.
