Do we think the new Big10 schools add wrestling?

I saw this article and wanted to see what you all had to say. Two have programs that are due to be resurrected. My money is on at least one school wanting to throw their hat in the Big10 gauntlet.

Article mentions Oregon and Washington having programs in the past, but not UCLA. Think UCLA dropped around same time Washington did, shortly after having a national champ, heavyweight Fred Bohna. 

To answer the question, I doubt we see any of the 4 add/bring back wrestling.  I hope I am wrong.

Would love to see it happen, but I think there's zero appetite from the new schools and little pressure from the conference to add D1 wrestling. There's been pretty good interest among students at the nonvarsity level, but I don't know if it will change anything. UCLA athletics in particular has been in some financial trouble for a few years now so it'll be an especially tough sell. I think all the incoming Pac schools will pour the new B1G money back into revenue sports, facilities, contract buyouts and give wrestling and the nonrevenue sports a pittance as per usual.

I am also pessimistic and think we see next to no growth for college wrestling outside of the female side of things.

I think adding big ten schools that do not have wrestling gives more of an opportunity for schools like Northwestern or Indiana to drop it, if anything.

Yeah UCLA had a program.  Didn't Mark Schultz start there before transferring?  May have been because they were dropping the program

And Dave Schultz, Gary Bohay (aa ASU and world fs silver), the older Kistler brothers (multiple aa, ASU and Iowa), Pat O'Donnell (aa Cal Poly). 

A very strong team, then the program was cancelled after the 1980 season

Not feeling it. With the way the left leaning universities think about athletics ,as being a nuisance for their intellectual progression.  The directors shouldn’t have to waste their time with coaches and NCAA’s policies.

This is what worries me re: NU. With Ken Kraft gone, what influence does wrestling have at the school? Any decent hs dual gets more fans than NU home matches. Most students don't know the school even has a team. The program is way down and looks like it may be for the foreseeable future. Offhand I can't think of how the University objectively can say that having a team is important, given  the schools priorities. All this when just a couple years ago we had multiple AAs, a National Champ, and a top 6 finish. Impossible for me to not worry this may be a way out for the administration.

yeah Mark Schultz wrestled in the '79 tournament for UCLA

You are not wrong about NU being one hiccup away from not having a men’s wrestling team. They provide the bare minimum to all of their sports as it stands. Although they do know that Football pays the bills.  As for all others they( coaches)are treated like a step child. And athletes alike. As far as IU, as bad as the program got it still resonated with AD to finally change coaching and is starting a comeback of sorts from the dumpster fire.  I’m here to say there is a pretty good following in Bloomington indiana. Don’t think is going to get dropped anytime soon.

Agree, but they do support both basketball teams, along with women's lacrosse, pretty well. And of course football with their billion dollar plans.

Again that  institution would be fine dropping all athletics scholarships and using only academic programs for athletes.

That may be the case - with the exception of football and bball. Seems to work ok for Cornell, Princeton, Penn...

I think there’s a better chance that Iowa adds water polo before a SoCal or UCLA add wrestling.
