Double Overtime

Bring back ties in dual meet bouts. Maybe keep the first SV period within duals and after that it’s a tie. Obviously for elimination tournaments you need overtime and tie breaks. If you can’t be ahead on points after 9 minutes, I don’t really care about perfect fairness. Current rules are fine.

This to the moon and back. I can't beleive people are in here praising Criteria. Ties for duels. And if you can't figure it out by the end of SV in a tournament setting I don't care about both guys going bottom. One go, winner takes all.

That’s an oversimplification IMO, as it will also be impacted by the strategy you employ earlier in the match, and not all 2OT matches will have 0-0 first periods, so I still think it’s better than winning by 1 second of RT.

I’m open to other ideas.

Maybe shorten the UTB to 20 seconds so an escape is more difficult?

Keep alternating sets of 2 30 second periods until 1 person actually has a higher score?

I could really get behind Keep alternating sets of two 30 second periods until one person ends a period with more point than the other.

it could lead to some 14 minute matches but we’d see guys battle and that’s what wrestlings about!

Have you ever watched a 14 minute match?  What about a 14 minute Greco-Roman match?

30 seconds top/bottom

30 seconds top/bottom

1:00 neutral

All three periods get wrestled to completion. No sudden victory.

Riding time will determine the outcome in a tie after the 1:00 neutral.

If riding time is going to be the decider you at least have a chance, after knowing that, to do something.

Without sudden victory refs can call stalling without ending the match.

Overtime would always be a 9:00 min match barring a pin.

You might have something there.  🙂

At the 2015 EIWAs one of the placement matches went to triple OT.  13 minutes.  Others disagreed, but I thought it was one of the most boring things I'd ever seen, and it held up the tournament a good ten minutes (although it seemed a lot longer).

And after this, a one second RT advantage could be a legitimate win?

The current system allows for a :01 riding time advantage win. So yeah I guess it’s “legitimate”

This way, there is at least a period where you know you’re winning/losing and have an opportunity to not lose due to :01 RT.

I think tennis has a rule that you have to win by two points.  We could do that.
