Way too early Hodge Watch

Recommended Posts

The Penn state guys should be out of consideration based on strength of schedule… their team dodges top competition for the first half of season

Brooks, Starocci and Kerk all wrestled and soundly beat the #2 guys in the country.

O’toole should be at the top. He just majored Ramirez and his only matches that weren’t bonus were against other top ten guys.

Who is leading the Hodge race so far?

Throwing some names out there:

Crooham

Fix

Ragusin

Woods

O'Toole

Stallroci

Brooks

Crooham in his entire career will never win the Hodge, I can fly guarantee it!

This feels like a Brooks/Starocci co-Hodge sort of year.

KOT is the only other guy I think has a shot. 165 is insane and he's killing people. If he does something crazy vs. Carr, all bets are off and you can expect Starocci to Xweet something indignant in reply to the Hodge announcement.

Carter would tweet something, but probably be happy to face him at Oly Trials.

im still very interested to see if carter can make 163 and if he can how he performs at that weight especially in a multi weigh in setting.

Top contenders at this point in the season are (in no particular order):

  • KOT (85% bonus)
  • Brooks (100% bonus)
  • Starocci (88% bonus)
  • Fix (88% bonus)
  • Hendrickson (88% bonus)
  • Hidlay (88% bonus)
  • Keckeisen (83% bonus)

KOT isn't even guaranteed to make the finals much less win the whole thing. Don't forget that even though he won when it mattered most, he dropped two matches to Carr last year including getting pinned at Big 12s. Anyone who has Carr above KOT has a very sound argument to do so. It's not like this is a weak bracket like 125 this year or 197 the past couple years, at 165 these are two elite level NCAA *champions and three age-group world champions. Someone's going down Friday night and someone's going down Saturday night, and we might see the results flipped a month later at OTT.

You need to look at their individual records. As an example, WrestleStat records a MFF to Starocci as a non-bonus win.

Of the 7 matches he's actually wrestled, he has 4 TFs and 3 Falls. No MDs, no DECs. 100% bonus.

Whereas Hendrickson has two actual DEC wins (Dawson, NDSU and Ghadiali, Campbell), and they record his bonus rate being equal to Starocci's, when it's not.
