Pan am champs

Recommended Posts

They're both there to qualify the weight for their country, no? While I'd love to see them wrestle, I wouldn't be surprised if one or both forfeits if they meet in the finals. IIRC, the top 2 qualify for Paris. I don't know if or how it would affect their UWW ranking points or Olympic seeding.

Not exactly. The Pan Am Qualifier is a week later. This is the Pan Am Championship. A country can only go to the qualifier if they also send someone to the championship. I am not sure why that is the case given that they are one week apart.

Entries are out per UWW. We could potentially see Lee vs RBY! Speaking of which, I find it curious that Roman is even entered at this event, given the qualifier is just a week later.

Suriano is registered at 61kg. I wouldn't hold my breath about seeing him actually compete.

Pan am champs entries

Roman needs as many freestyle reps as he can possibly get.  He allegedly claims that he never wrestled freestyle until a few weeks ago.

I also wouldn't expect to see Suriano, as coach cal put him through a tough med ball workout the other day.

Ah right, the Pan Am Championships/Games/Qualifier gets me every time.

Wait this isn’t even to qualify the weight? This one is to qualify to send someone to qualify the rate…. So convoluted, I hope Lee and RBY hit in the bracket before the finals bc there will 100% be a forfeit if not.

Now you get it. It makes no sense. I think they have the requirement to send someone to the championship, if you want to wrestle the weight at the qualifier, because they are only a week apart and no one would do both otherwise.

Why not have one Pan Am “championship”/ “games” / “qualifiers” every 12 months. Depending on the year it the name can change. Qualifier for Olympic year, games ever 4 years off cycle, and championships the other 2 year per quad.

This year there are 3 official Pan Am wrestling tournaments?? So weird

I think y'all are misinterpreting what WKN wrote, or maybe I am.

1.  For the 2023 Pan Am Games, there was a qualification process that involved how your country finished in a few Pan Am tournaments that preceded it. Gilman won the 2022 Pan Am Championships, so he qualified the USA for the 2023 Pan Am Games. There, Zane Richards won.

2.  For the 2024 Pan Am Championships, there are no qualifiers.

3.  For the 2024 Pan Am Olympic qualifier, there are no qualifiers, but if your country already has won a slot allotted at your weight in the 2023 World Championships, your country can't go.

I know that #1 above is right because I saw it play out, and I've linked to the Wikipedia entry. As for #'s 2 & 3, I'm pretty sure that's right, but please let me know if I'm wrong. Cheers!

The event is Feb 21-24 . Suriano has plenty of time to recover from that workout

Don't know. Just saying there's no way he's never wrestled FS before and the person who said he he never had maybe misunderstood what he said.

I am that person and I agree. But this has taken on a life of its own.

I can hear Pyles now, "OMG the enigmatic Nick Suriano subverts our expectations again! You see typically, wrestlers wrestle, Suriano is a wrestler, but he doesn't wrestle....see it's ironic."

roman did not look stellar in france and i believe they were allowed 2kg itll be interesting to see how he does down at scratch weight spencer will also test his par tear defense

I was wondering about the weight allowance.  If true, that does not bode well for Roman despite his Treigning Lab pseudo science and/or supplementation program.
