AA’s - Eddie Ventresca, Killian Cardinale, Jake Woodley

Champs/finalists - Cody Brewer, Ronnie Perry

Brewer was a 4x AA and seeded very low at the NCAA that year (11th I think) ... I did well on that bracket.

The wrestlers who out performed their seed by at least 10 spots is heavy in the past 4 years when everyone was seeded, but here is that list anyway. There are also a few from the 16 seed era on the list.

Killian Cardinale is clearly the most under rated wrestler of all time.

In the 12 seed era (1979 - 2013) only one wrestler outperformed his seed by double digits. Edinboro's Jarrod King won 165 as the 12 seed in 2009.

Also in the 12 seed era unseeded wrestlers made the final 9 times, winning twice.

Andy Daniels1978  118 lbs Ohio University. Unseeded . He beat Gene Mills 15 to 7 in semi's. Then beat John Azevedo by pin in the finals to finish 1st. In Ohio if I remember correctly, he was a one-time state placer 6th his Senior year at 98 lbs. Pretty remarkable career.

Sheets was even listed as the #33 seed in 2021 (although there were only 32 wrestlers!), when he ended up taking 8th.  He didn't even qualify at first, but Ruffin from SIUE had to withdraw before the tournament and Sheets ended up getting that spot.

Do you remember what very successful movie the word obtuse was used in. Much to the dismay of the actor.

Yeah, his case is an example of a terrible seeding job rather than an unexpected run. Was penalized by the seeding committee for being injured for a significant time. His dominance in the tournament may have been a bit surprising, but AAing certainly was not.
