His only weakness so far is he needs to ramp up the pinfalls.

pikfakks ... he needs more pikfakks!

As long as we are making up words let's make up one with really nice letters.  😉

Shapiro, Crookham, Davis in that order. Included Davis because 125 is so wide open. At 174 I would list Gabe Arnold instead of Danny Wask (though it doesn't really matter because CStarr is killing everyone). At 157 Chittum could be included as well. His win over Teemer suggests that he is in the mix. Kannon Webster may also be in the mix at 149. The Big 10 dual season should tell us where he stacks up against the best.

I'll take Freshman champs for 500.

Answer:   Crooham

Question:   Who will be a freshman champ in Div 1 wrestling at the 2024 NCAA championships.

Sanderson has had a number of freshmen finalists (9-10?) and 4 have won it, so it won't be too much of a surprise if Davis or Mess make it to the championship match, but it will be if they win.

Crookham has a win over the defending National Champ at the weight.

Shapiro is an elite talent, but those CKLV losses...

I lean Crookham.

I thought Arnold was redshirting.

if you Men in Black pen everyone's knowledge before 2 months ago, and substract pyles farming shapiro for clicks, crookham would get 80% of the votes for shapiro.

I'm not saying thats a fair argument for something, but I'm pretty confident its true.

I’d go Mesenbrink over Davis, despite the top guys at 165 and lack of them at 125

I won’t argue with you about it. Mesenbrink is very good. The final bosses at 165 are just so good.

I did go Messenbrink. He's just so relentless. But I get why others haven't with O'Toole and Carr. I want to see him vs Hamiti though. O/U 21.5. Who's got the O? I'll take that!

I think it is TBD. He has used 4 dates, so he still could redshirt.

I believe he has only used 3, the SS he wrestled unattached and is considered 2nd semester.

Messenbrink has more collegiate experience, and trains with two NCAA finalists every day in the best room in the country. I'll take him in March as the most likely. But I don't think a freshman wins this year at any weight class. Well, maybe 125 but that is because it is chaos and not because there is a front-runner.

Not sure how true this is, but I assume the rate of improvement for even the bluest blue chip rookies (true frosh and redshirts firt time in the lineup) is a little higher than 2nd, 3rd and 4or 4+ year wrestlers. Of course, while it seems like Fix has not gotten better, seems like VIto did later in his collegiate career.

A lot of the 1st year guys in the poll might be even closer to the top guys by March.  I think we will get a few rookies in the semis - wehther or not they make the finals or win it will be close.

More than whom?  Shapiro has been wrestling collegiately for two years now (he's 25-2 over those two years), and he trains with two NCAA *champions* every day in a pretty darned good room.

No disagreeing he is also an outstanding wrestling who is certainly in a good spot. It is a polarizing question and I gave a polarizing thesis for my pick was all.
