Of the 28 replies, I count 4 clearly racist replies including 1 use of the n word (but at least x/twitter censored it).  Not a good look.  Hopefully some of these people learn to be decent humans for Christmas but I doubt it.

I saw the N word one which was very disappointing but didn't see the other racist replies (might be me being dumb or they have already changed it).  I also try to remember there are a decent amount of bots out there and hope that egregious comments are coming from there rather than an actual person

Bailey was obviously pissed off he couldn't do anything.  Arujau could have been a little nicer, I suppose, but this is wrestling.  If you aren't tough you won't make it.

That said, seeing those asshats in the comments is sad.

Obviously didn’t need to retaliate like that, but looks like Vito did give him a knee to the head at minimum.   The headbutt may not have been intentional though.

Best strategy is to never read the comments. There are always going to be idiots in the world whether they are truly racists or just ding-dongs who enjoy being trolls. They are the type of people who are way more likely to post something in the replies, so while the count of 4 ignorant posts out of 28 is truly a sad ratio, I would like to think the % of idiots is way less the 1% in both wrestling fans and the entire population.

The % may be lower, but I think it’s clear the number of a holes in the wrestling world is not insignificant.

And those 4 comments are not even counting others that were not quite as drastic, such as calling him a thug or saying he should be kicked out of wrestling forever which is laughable.

Ya the kicked out of wrestling comment may have been the dumbest I've seen in a while.

The unfortunate truth is that wrestling is largely remains a rural sport...and this is reflected both in the fanbase and the participants.  And yes, many of those rural fans are racist whether they readily admit or overtly display it.  It's sad and it definitely hinders the growth of the sport.

As a Penn State fan it makes me proud to see how Cael has embraced diverse athletes and how he's allowed them to thrive and propel Penn State to meteoric heights.

The current roster boasts 6 diverse starting wrestlers - 60% of the roster is a racial minority which is almost unheard of in top D-1 programs.  There are another 10 non-starterson the roster who probably identify as URMs: (Dunbar, Evans, Facundo, Garcia, Gibson, Heard, McHenry, Shindledecker, Wang)

133 - Aaron Nagao

141 - Beau Bartlett

149 - SVN (injured)

174 - Starocci

197 - Brooks

HWT - Kerk

And it's no coincidence that these guys also happen to be the best wrestlers on the team!

Look at a program like Iowa...I think they would compete better against Penn State if they increased the diversity of their roster.  Unfortunately, diverse wrestlers know that Iowa isn't exactly the most welcoming place to people of color.  They can do better at a welcoming place like Happy Valley.

The irony of your post is amazing.  I doubt Coach Sanderson would appreciate the idea that he allows "them" to thrive.  Do "they" have to ask him for permission to improve?  Your inherent racism is showing.

It is not... look at the roster ... 36 guys and mostly white - about 13 or so minorities. Will you be switching your narrative in two years when his next two recruiting  classes have 12 white kids and 2 minorities and many of the guys you listed are done?

Just want to get this straight.  Is Cael Sanderson racist or not?

I Don't Agree With What I Posted

Yeah, maybe wishful thinking on my part for both the wrestling community and the world at large

I agree, it's laughable, but you see this on social media all the time if a kid throws a punch - even as young as elementary school. I think that one is more Karenism than racism.

Why not both?

Parents are the worst thing about youth sports - regardless of the sport.
