I think PSU started this though.  Multiple foreign wrestlers: Uzbekistan, PR,  Mexico, anyone else??

Aren’t those people actually from those countries though (except RBY)?

I would also like to understand what is happening here…

It is required reading that whenever Bono's name (Turdbiscuit be blessed) that someone of high moral fiber must remind folks that he is a Turdbiscuit.

Bono is a Turdbiscuit.

There is an Austin Gomez in the student directory at Michigan now.

Austin and Gomez are common names, though.  That said, it wasn't there this past weekend.

Perhaps fewer than 100 people over the age of 18 named "Austin Gomez" in the US (according to an unreliable internet source.)

Still, I think its likely we have a match.

I heard the PSU rumors today too... seems somewhat unnecessary for PSU, but there is the RBY connect.

This checks out, after PSU invented wrestling in 2010 their next move was start training with international wrestlers shortly thereafter.   🙂 🙂

No inside knowledge, but Gomez did sign with Cliff Keen.  I suppose a CK athlete can train and go to school at PSU but as you mention, somewhat unnecessary unless Cael is determined to break the scoring record.

Well, I suppose Foxcatcher beat them to it with Val, but I can't remember it happening in large numbers until PSU and the RTC era.  They were certainly a pioneer in this regard.

There's one in the OPC at Coe (definitely not this one though)

I actually have my suspicions and have had for some time.  Just in case I'm wrong I won't say it out loud

You thinking small fry or pond scum?

Just say the first letter, we'll figure it out.  😉

Where does this put UMich in contention now?

Before CKLV I had Michigan projected second by a single point over NC State (so close that second through fourth is realistic). But CKLV was rough on Michigan's ranks and they dropped all the way down to ninth, a whopping 18 points behind NC State.

So it depends on where you think Gomez finishes. First? They are solid contenders for second. Second? Second through fourth is realistic. Third? Probably still on the podium.

Drowning in data, but thirsting for knowledge
