Early, but Howard just gutted lut a 6-4 decision against Gardner Webb's Concepcion.  Concepcion nearly had a takedown there at the end and was working on improving position.  Howard laid and prayed on his ankle.

This Howard is not pulling AA.

McHenry time?

Howard was seeded 4th, Steen 5th, and Davis 6th.

Howard's opponent, Gardner Webb's Concepcion, was 4W - 4L on the season thus far and he won via 6-4 Decision.  He faces Steen next.

Steen's opponent, Binghamton's Wagner, was 1W - 1L on the season thus far and he won via 12-5 Decision.  He faces Howard next.

Davis's's opponent, Long Island's Waldmann was 0W - 2L on the season thus far and he won via 15-0 Techfall in the first.  He faces Army's backup, 3 Seeded Farmer, who is technically 5W - 0L on the season but does have an actual loss to D3's #1 Josiah Fry via 4-0 Decision.  It will be a good test.

Davis already holds a victory over Steen via 11-3 Major.

Ergo no McHenry at this time

Nagao looked great in his first match of the year. Should see Shawver on the final.

Might see an all PSU final again at 141; Evans and Kasak meet in the quarter finals. Evans has an AA scalp this year and lost a tight one against Malyke Hines.

Messenbrink should hit Caleb Fish in the 165 final.

Might see Josh Barr hit two top-15 dudes in Jacob Nolan and Lane Malczewski. Best bracket outside of 133 and 141, on paper.

Howard hasn't been wrestling for something like two years because of injury, correct? I'm willing to cut anyone some slack in that situation. It takes a bit to get your fitness back to where it needs to be.

Definitely a lot of factors in play, but it's not always easy to get your mentality right when the injuries pile up.

Vanadia is Malczewski's heir apparent for MSU at 184lbs.  They expect big things from him.  I expect a comfortable Barr win, but I am looking forward to it.

Eh... are you also calling him a lock to AA?

There are those using the same justification as you to call him a lock to AA.

I don't see it.  It isn't a conditioning problem.  He looks to have regressed as a wrestler and he wasn't a lock three years ago.

He’s literally afraid to use his right arm right now.

Then he shouldn't be on the mat.

He didn't attempt anything against Steen.  At all.

Edit: Furthermore it was Steen initiating everything, including getting two points off a reversal.

Nothing of what I said changes.  He has clearly regressed.

He didn't favor any shoulder against Steen.  In fact he didn't favor anythung except doing nothing.

Did Robbie Howard pin your kid or date your daughter or something ? It’s mid November of a season that ends mid march , the guy has the same amount of Ls as the returning ncaa finalist at the weight and he lost to a guy who never AAed and a high school kid , the kid missed 2 years of wrestling and has one half season of folk style since his HS career ended ,thank god you aren’t a coach at penn state bc you would’ve sent Cassar packing the second he lost to garret Hoffman

Doing nothing can be/likely is a sign that he doesn't have the confidence to use his injured shoulder, his fitness isn't there yet, or any number of things.

If you want to describe how he's wrestling as regression, fine by me, though the description doesn't matter much.

He's not performing like the top recruit he was. Whether that's physical, mental, a combination or he's somehow lost his ability to wrestle, the question he and PSU have to answer is whether they can change the direction this thing is going.

Because I don't think it's likely he forgot how to wrestle, I'm still leaning toward the recovery from the injury, both physically and mentally, is why he looks like he does. It's not a simple thing for everyone to overcome when you suddenly can't perform the way you've always been able to.

Nah.  None of that.  I think preposterous statements such as him being a lock to AA are stupid, though.

I fully expect some sort of excuse from you, not him.

As a fan of wrestling I believe a better Penn State is better for USA Wrestling.  I see nothing from him that makes me believe Penn State is better with him and not Davis.

The point may be moot.  If Howard pulls of a win in the semi-finals against Berginc it may be enough to keep Davis on redshirt regardless of how Davis performs.

Also the last half of your statement there is stupid AF.  Keep up with the stupid comments and the last little bit of people here that don't think you're a complete idiot (which I am one of them) will hop that fence too.

I am really looking forward to seeing him against Fish, potentially.

Fish isn't flashy or dynamic.  He is consistently persistent and fundamentally sound.

I guess this is your schtick now, beating up on a guy coming back from multiple injuries.
