The Pan Am Games

Recommended Posts

Snyder with a wicked ankle pick for two. Torres responds with a dramatic double for four. Go behind and two guts for Snyder. Now 8-4 USA. Second ankle pick that Snyder turns into a double and a leglace. 12-4. Break. USA up 12-4.

Torres is an athlete, but still raw.

Go behind after a bad Cuban shot, and Snyderman wins 14-4. USA!

Mason Parris up against Diaz (Venezuela). Diaz is 34 years old. He's the Venezuelan Bruce Baumgartner. Parris with a point for passivity and another point for a pushout -- or was it the hammer fist that got called against the Anti-American Venezuelan?

2-0 at the break, USA.

Almost fisticuffs at the end. Mason wins 2-0. No handshake from Venezuela. Like he had a chance.

This video shows highlights of Zane Richards of the United States winning the Gold Medal match at 57kg at the Pan Am Games of 2023. He wrestled Oscar Tigreros, the Olympian and 2x (now 3x) Pan Am Silver medalist. Tigreros beat the Cuban in the semifinals, while Richards beat NCAA Champion Darian Cruz of Puerto Rico in his semi. The announcer is a Scot.

There were Cubans at every weight, but no Cuban champions. Good day for America!

If you told me post 2016 OTT that Zane was going to be the Pan Am games rep (and champ) but Anthony Valencia was going to place 4th for another country after getting rocked by the US backup at a non-oly weight I would have laughed at you. I would have laughed SO. HARD.

WFS 50 KG - Erin Gholston loses toe the lady from Ecuador via 4-0 Decision.

Despite losing she is now placed in the 2nd position of the semi-finals for the bracket below.  She will face the winner of Cuba and Venezuela in the semifinals.  The lose of Cuba and Venezuela will meet the lady from Ecuador in the other 50 KG WFS semi-finals.

WFS 57 KG - Xochitl Mota Pettis was Pinfelled by a lady from Brazil in 2M7S.  She was up 5-4 at the time.  Brazil faces Cuba in the semi-finals.

Mota Pettis is still alive for Bronze, but needs Brazil to win the semi-finals.

WFS 68 KG - Forrest Molinari is in the semi-finals.  She has won both of her matches via Tech without allowing a single point (yet).

Molinari is still alive for Gold.

MFS 86 KG - Mark Hall faces Puerto Rico, and former North Carolina, wrestler Ethan Ramos in the semi-finals.

Hall is still alive for Gold.

MFS 65 KG - Nashon Garrett in the the semi-finals.  He has Argentina's Agustin Destribats.  Garrett won his first match via 12-4 Decision over Peru and his second match over Chile via 10-0 Tech in 1M22S.  Destribats won his first (and only) match over Bolivia via 11-0 Tech in 0M55S.  I believe the winner will end up facing Alejandro Tobier of Cuba in the finals.  Tobier has Albaro Comacho of the Dominican Republic in the semi-finals on the bottom side.

Garrett is still alive for Gold.

65 KG looks to be the deepest weight, right?

I was surprised to see Nahshon gassing up at 65KG, but I’m glad he got it done!

He didn't get a full camp in.  Lee was a late-ish scratch.

Sorry for being absent today. Had to get ready for the ILLINI dual with SIUE. Then, there's been follow up on National Singlet Day. Y'all picked up the slack! Lots of great educational posts from NHS here. Love to hear about the prior histories of the wrestlers. That kind of information makes the present-day matchups even more exciting. It seems that day one saw the new Cubanos, but day two saw some of the old war horses. Cheers!

Well, it looks like I screwed up the start time. Worse yet, I may have told others the wrong start time. On top of that, I missed Kamal Bey winning in the first round with Bey Bombs--all four pointers. Now, I don't see any wrestling on the video page.

Hafizov is already in the semis. Bey has to beat a Mexican to make the semis.

On the Women's side, Chavez is in the quarters against a Cubano. Kayla Miracle is in the quarters, and will probably face Brazil.

Is anybody else having problems watching this?

We aren't allowed to say words such as Polak, Mexican, American, etc.

It's wrong.
