This has Oregon State really laying the beat down in what is mostly a non-competitive looking 30-3 dual.  That said, a total of 33 team points are scored, which means only three (3) bonus points.  It also has Belton over McNeil, which is possible - I just don't think it is likely at this stage in their careers.  It has the first five (5) weights being tight decisions in which I think they are all pretty close to being toss-ups, with the exception of 125 and 141 being more favored matchups to one side or the other.  I have OSUw favored at 125, 165, 174, 184, and 285 with UNC favored at 141 and 197.  133, 149, and 157 are toss-ups (to me).  If UNC can get those swing matches and considering that Moore at 125 and Kane at 184 are very real threats to win... they can win this one.  I am going to say Koll has some matchup rub off and they get two of those early toss-ups... with Kaylor squeaking by Moore... which gives them a 3-2 match edge heading in to intermission (9 - 6 in favor of UNC).  I think OSUw gets bonus (Majors) at 165 and 174 to get a controlling 14-9 lead and then Kane pulls the upset on Munoz to make it 14-12.  Shaw gets a very tight decision on JuCo National Champ Mower (he is going to surprise some people).  15-14 in favor of UNC going in to 285... in which Boone pulls out a tight decision... very tight.

Prediction: Oregon State over North Carolina 17-15

While I think Guttridge will be given a fair shake and a proper shot at being the starter, I wouldn't be surprised to see Lautt getting some time up there.  Shaw has the length to succeed but doesn't have any horse to use at 285... perhaps with an offseason might he turn in to a serviceable HWT for a season.  Lautt on the other hand?  He is stronk.  If Guttridge struggles during the season I wouldn't be surprised to see him head up for a dual or three... or more.

Good analysis.  Thanks!

Is Spencer Moore old enough to drive yet?

I think one of the more off the mat interesting talking points in this dual is that its the first dual at UNC for Rob Koll. I am very curious to see how the fan and support turnout is. I have been to several UNC duals in the past where the crowds were bleak, Koll has a good track record of bringing attention and fanfare to his programs.

As an NC State supporter, I try to fly in for at least one home meet a year.  This year, I am having a tough time choosing between the Cornell and VTech meets.  Hopefully someday soon, I am considering the UNC meet.  I love Koll's plan to make it big enough to host it in the Dean Dome at some point in the near future.

I think we may see a resurgence similar to NC State and how they have turned their dual meets at Reynolds into an event. I am also looking forward to a possible rivalry between UNC and NC State starting. I may be getting way ahead of myself because growth to be competitive with NC State may take some time but exciting things are happening for the state of North Carolina wrestling.

I think you should do Cornell - in my unbiased opinion then you should head to ACCs to see VTech and UNC. 🙂

Yah, we thought Koll left the PAC to get away from Oregon State...JK.  You can run but can't hide.  Also, I'd be surprised if those are the 10 that Pendleton puts out their for the Beavs.  More to be learned after intrasquad next week.

The first couple of competitions are always a crap shoot on who is in the line up and who is not. Still refreshing to have some college wrestling to talk about. Both teams I believe will put out what they think is their best possible line-up (fingers crossed)

Or you can have fun with a variation of that. (You can use it in the future when the situation is appropriate.)

You can run but you can't ride...

This is probably the most balanced OSU team top to bottom they have had in a long time. OSU also has some depth (finally) - that being said, some weight classes are up for grabs. We will see what happens this week with the intrasquad.  At the end of the day, I expect an OSU win over Koll and Co.

Hunter had a great year at 113. He went 120 for Elite 8 and went 0-7 . His scholarship was offered by Coleman not Rob so opened up his recruitment

Yes, I am aware. Great young man. Glad to have him in Corvallis.

Slightly different lineup for Oregon State, but I got OSU at 20-13... there will be some bonus in there somewhere.
