Really good interview.

Are parents allowed to just withdraw their kids from school, do no homeschooling, and just play sports for an entire year? Sounded like the sole goal of that entire year was to get an advantage at wrestling when he didn't even need it. Hopefully that's not a trend, lol.

Apparently it helps with PSU admissions.

Best part is parents were educators and were cool with the whole situation.

So who is the coach he called to personally inform that he was choosing PSU where the conversation was bad? We know it wasn't Brands (see you on the mats).

Expand

Yeah, I expected it to be Brands, but later on in the podcast he seemed to indicate that it wasn't.  Supposedly Brands isn't one to negatively recruit?

How much will the PSU haters hate to hear he turned down a full ride at OhSU to take 87.5% at PSU?

I don't know?  I think a lot of guys, even top recruits, end up taking partials.  87.5% sounds pretty good to me.  What % can these current crops of PSU and tOSU studs possible be making.

I know a guy who was a multiple year starter at a top program.  Although not a "top recruit," was certainly a great prospect.  His scholarship was "books."

Honestly 87.5% at PSU is really high. With the amount of high end recruits they have on the roster currently and 9.9 Scholarships available they all have to be taking a cut.... I'm sure they make up for it with a nice NIL deal now though.

The new one now from some coaches when a kid calls with bad news is ok we will see you in the portal. The coaches you would think take it hard usually don't. And it's usually the quiet ones who have the comments

That's a really shitty thing to say to a kid that you purportedly wanted on your team.

I don't know. We are assuming Corby is a faithful narrator, or whoever told him is a faithful narrator. A coach can say "if it doesn't work out and you enter the portal, we will still be interested" and have it interpretted differently.

WKN Can you give me a synopsis of where we are at with this thread?  Too lazy to start from the beginning.  Thanks!

Agreed! It'd be like getting offered a job, turning it down because it's not a good fit with your life right now and the prospective employer saying "If anything changes in your life and you want to make a change, the job offer still stands."

Punctuation matters. His statement, as written, had a pretty negative connotation. To me, at least.
