Book Bans

Recommended Posts

I think the most alarming thing about this is the lack of responses saying that they don't support book cancelling,  but,  then again,  we know that many do.

Man this gets old...please provide any evidence of a book being "banned".  Can't wait to see how people twist the definition of "banned" again.  By the way...who starts a thread like this??

You've had weeks to learn yisself on the numbers of books that right wing authoritarian legislators are banning all across this land,  Iowa chief among them.

So,  why haven't you read all about this on your own? Are you Judy not really interested? If not, then why do you always comment on it?

You'll have to be more specific.  Around these parts, dictionaries and encyclopedias are too woke to be of any use.

Well, that's easy to believe because I've heard that AI, Google searches,  and the military are woke as well.

We just can't escape these infringements on my bigotry!

What are you all afraid of, seriously?

Having difficult conversations with your kids is part of the job.

Specifics ... what books?  Are you upset that calculus, organic chem and thermodynamics books have be "banned" for 3rd graders? 🙄

The Kite Runner is an excellent book and has been targeted for banning many times, for example.   This site can provide more specifics for you, if you are actually interested.

So Plasi, you did not respond about why Calculus, Organic Chemistry, and Thermodynamics books are banned from elementary school libraries.

I think your input on that would be very instructive.

I special ordered those, much like Young Sheldon.  They weren't banned in any way.

So now you are using the correct usage of "ban" with regards to books as you special ordered those.   Not too complicated to do.   Now explain why they are not found in elementary school libraries which is used by the heathens as an indication that these books are banned.

No, there was intermittent demand for them.  For cost cutting measures, they were kept a central library for the entire school district.  My parents were demanding mil levy increases to give every library in the district a copy of every book ever published, but they were unsuccessful.

Back to the conversation.  They weren't banned because you just had to order a day or two in advance.  They were still in the card catalogue.  I remember fondly waiting for my turn with the thermodynamics refrigerants textbook.  You know how silly 9 year olds are!

And to that point, why isn't Kite Runner available for 3 yr olds and why has Clifford the Big Red Dog been "banned" from high school classes?
