Another PSU Recruiting Advantage

It is about time PSU caught a break on the recruiting trail.

Over on the International board there is a discussion of training partners for the upcoming World Championships. It struck me how many PSU wrestlers are making the trip as training partners.

Beau Bartlett, Shane Van Ness, and Alex Facundo each get an all-expenses paid vacation to Serbia while still undergrads due to their affiliation with PSU/NLWC. That has to be a huge recruiting advantage on top of their already significant advantages.

The other undergrads I see on the list are Cael Valencia and Lucas Davison. High schooler Luke Lilledahl is also on the plane, but I do not see that as having anything to do with PSU in spite of his announced commitment.

Cael has a garage in Heber City, Utah where he grew up and it is filled with Wheaties Cereal boxes with his picture. He gives a box of cereal to each recruit who comes to the school. "Eat the 20 year old Wheaties or wrestle at Penn State"!

To cement the deal he threatens to give them a Cael Bobblehead doll if they don't sign with him.

Wonder what the Wheaties boxes are worth these days?

It’s the same advantage that Iowa had when Dennis took Spencer Lee with him to Rio. As long as they follow the rules, there’s no problem.

PSU Creamery. I went back three days in a row, and finished my wife's all three days, as well.

Sure but there's a chance as some of their fans are consuming more than their fair share of the ice-cream.  If the Creamery starts running short of ice-cream put your money on Iowa or an OSU.

On a related note, it looks like PSU Wrestling really does pull some good NIL money. Last night my wife saw a video on social media of a kid doing a backflip and then biting into a burrito supreme. She asked why the heck everyone was commenting "We Are."

It was Beau Bartlett doing a Taco Bell ad.

A chance? I figured it was a certainty, but this is going by my own mindset with ice cream when at wrestling events, in which my train of thinking generally prioritizes the wrestling a distant 2nd in comparison to trying to beat the world record of most Dip N’ Dots ever consumed by a human at nearly every event I’m at! And as an Iowan, I can vouch that yes, a shortage of ice cream of any kind would instill anger into the veins of any Iowa wrestler in attendance and I would put my money on them with these circumstances as well!
