125kg @ 2023 Worlds

Gable is 100% going. The question is if he is 100% all in and no insider is going to leak that nugget right now.

If he’s still spending time doing both then we are going to find out in a couple weeks if his talent really is *that* much better than the competition that he can gap them. If it’s not then I have a feeling his fire will be fully reignited and he’s going to come back all in for Paris. I hope he wins gold this year, but I feel really bad for the Olympics competitors if he doesn’t…

interesting that Gable and Parris are both listed.
at least adds to the intrigue.
either Gable is taking Parris as his workout partner or USA listed them both just in case.

I would actually really like to see Senior Level Parris. I think he’s ready.

I believe we qualify 74, 86, 97 and 125. 57, 65 are more worrisome. 🇺🇸

making things even a bit more difficult is that Worlds only qualifies 5 to the Olympics and not 6 this cycle.

1-Gold

2-Silver

3-Bronze

4-Bronze

5-Winner of Bronze bout losers

TBD

Strange... here is a quote from the article on UWW

"At 125kg, Gable STEVESON (USA) is set to return after a substantial absence. The 21-year-old sensation made waves at the Tokyo Olympic Games, stunning the wrestling community with his triumph. He managed to defeat now-reigning world champion Taha AKGUL (TUR) and three-time world champion Geno PETRIASHVILI (GEO) en route to Olympic glory.

Following his Olympic gold, Steveson took a brief retirement from wrestling to pursue a career in WWE. However, he has since added another Olympic gold to his aspirations.

During Steveson's absence, young contender Amir ZARE (IRI) has emerged as a dominant figure in the weight class. Zare claimed world gold in Oslo before relinquishing the crown to Rio Olympic champion Akgul in Belgrade. A highly anticipated clash between Zare and Steveson is eagerly awaited by fans after numerous exchanges on social media."

When the article was first released it had Steveson and Parris both listed.  Now it just has Davison.

My hope is that Davison is in fact going, but as Parris's training partner and that Parris is actually the guy going.

Even as an avid Parris fan I know that is a serious downgrade from Steveson, as it were.

It will be a big hit for team USA's title hopes. If Paris is going, he at least has a chance to bring home a medal though.

Agree, and I think he still plans to compete in the 2024 Olympics. Olympic gold is the highest peak in international wrestling, he realizes that and wants a shot at becoming a rare 2x Olympic champ from the USA.

As cool as it would be for Gable to be a world champ, that doesn't hold the same marketing appeal within WWE as an Olympic gold. Also, if he were to lose at World's, that might take a little shine off his gold that he earned in 2021.

That said, I think if he surprises us and laces the boots up for Serbia, he wins gold.

Even if he only cares about another Olympic gold and wants to compete in the least amount of freestyle tournaments possible, it would probably be a good idea to get a medal here and make qualifying for the Olympics easier.

If he doesn't go it's possible the weight doesn't get qualified. He would then need to go through the process of making the team and then qualifying the weight before then going to the Olympics. If he gets a medal here he can  focus more on WWE until the trials final.
