Top Coaches - ANY sport - still active

We know the records Cael Sanderson is making at Penn State. A few years as an Assistant, a couple at ISU to get his feet wet and then Penn State and the stratospheric levels the program has achieved.

What are the top coaches in other Collegiate sports? What kind of records are they putting in the books? How do they compare to Cael & Co?

” Never attribute to inspiration that which can be adequately explained by delusion”.

A few examples of other programs that are still in their "dynasty window"...

Geno Auriemma - UConn Women's BBall - 11 titles
Patty Gasso - Oklahoma Softball - 6 titles since 2013
Michael Smith - Northern Arizona Cross Country - 6 titles in 7 years
Nick Saban - Alabama Football - 7 titles in the most competitive sport
Mike Holloway - Florida Track - 12 mens and women's indoor/outdoor titles since 2010 (not all under him)
David Durden - Cal Swimming - 5 team titles, 7 runner up finishes since 2010
K.J. Kindler - Oklahoma Gymnastics - 6 titles since 2014

Nice list. Cream of the crop.

For Track, you could add Pat Henry from Texas A&M

Thinking of Oklahoma gymnastics, is the men's coach even more accomplished than the women's?

Russ Rose, Penn State Women’s Volleyball. 109 game winning streak, losing only two sets that entire time. 7x NCAA champs. Had 6 players AA (entire starting lineup) in one season.

John McDonnell at Arkansas for indoor/outdoor Track and Field. Won 19 titles.

I was thinking Russ Rose too, but he retired. And McDonnell passed away a few years ago.

How many gymnastics teams in D1?

It's a very small number on the men's side, and women's coaching jobs are (I assume) more prestigious than men's (former Illinois head coach, Justin Spring left a couple of years ago to be a women's assistant at Alabama, for instance).

However, men's college gymnastics is closer to the pinnacle of the sport than the women's mostly due to the ages at which athletes in those sports peak. An NCAA men's meet has more future and current national team members than a women's meet would. Also, the men's coaches have to know six events while the women only need to know four 🧐
